  1. It is a great idea to put some in a jar. Fleas are effected by the frontline within 20 min but can take up to 24 h to die. Check wether you have any cats and/or possums in your backyard. they carry often a lot of fleas.
  2. Hi Koza, Yes Leanne should be at the pet expo this year, she has been for the last (at least) 2 years. Mel
  3. Get onto Fort Dodge and ask them for an explanation
  4. You shouldn't be able to buy it in singles- that's illegal, it obviously doesn't come with the warning sheet every time you buy it??? Being a Vet Nurse you should know that. You are allowed to sell it in singles PROVIDING you a: apply it for the customer b: put it in the original box so the customer has all the directions and warnings This is what I've been told by my francisor (mobile hydrobath)
  5. For more info about Advantix regarding ticks go to this American website K9 Advantix
  6. From what I know about Frontline and ticks is that the Frontline will kill the ticks but can take up to 5 days to do so...
  7. I speak to the Frontline people roughly 1-2 times a year. This is what they said in our last seminar.... But what if you still have fleas. Often the product is blamed for failure. However, investigation into these cases will usually reveal 1 of 2 scenarios: Perceived inefficacy due to:  Appearance of newly emerged fleas from the pupal window.  Re-infestation with an external flea source (other flea-infested animals in the environment. Incorrect use of flea control products, due to:  Compliance and application failure  Failure to treat ALL pets in the household  Washing and swimming (water-fastness; label directions remain a guide for the water-fastness of a flea product.) The cat flea can jump up to 48cm in length and up to 17cm high to catch a passing host. Once the flea has found its host, it begins to feed almost immediately (within 1 minute). Mating occurs on the host in the first 8-24 hours, with egg production beginning within 24-48 hours of their first blood meal. It reaches a peak of 40-50 eggs per day by day 4-9 and may continue for over 100 days. One flea can produce 2000 eggs in its lifetime What you need to know  95% of flea stages live off the pet and can survive up to 6 months in the environment (or longer in colder climates, I know in The Netherlands they say pupea can live inside the house up to 2 years)  Fleas breed all year round.  All animals in the household must be treated.  Fleas can re-infest the pet from other sources.  Flea control must be used at the correct dosage and at the correct dosing interval. (Clients purchasing their flea control from a veterinary clinic use an average of 5 monthly doses per pet per year) Did you know: About 200 different species of fleas exist worldwide. Mature fleas feed with blood from the skin of their host: pets, people and wild animals, like skates, fishes, and birds. The best known species are the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis felis, which can also bite dogs and humans), the dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis) and the specific human flea (Pulex irritans). These fleas belong to the group of the wingless insects (Phylum: Arthropoda; Class: Insecta; Order: Siphonaptera; Suborder: Pulicidae). Fleas can transmit germs to their host, like eggs of tapeworms. The rat flea (Xenopsylla cheopsis) was the transmission vector of the bubonic plague bacteria (Yersinia pestis) that caused billions of victims in the Middle Ages
  8. Or go to another vet who is willing to do it while dog is under....
  9. castor oil is very good I've heard but don't give too much as than she will have the runs for a little while
  10. I changed Mili over when she went to class 1. I got her at 14 weeks and had hardly any lead training (but had show training). The main reasond I changed over was that I have different leads/collars for different occasions, slip and yellow lead for obedience, flatcollar with red lead for walking, and show lead for the show. I Hardly ever had to use the check chain!
  11. Terrorbull, got your PM, not time to answer yet, wil answer tonight or might see you on MSN Mel
  12. this really depends on what sort of shampoo you are using. We (the compagny I work for) have developped a shampoo that strips the coat just as much as plain water. so it does not matter wether the dog swims in te creek or gets a wash. I bath several dogs without any problems every week. Use an every day shampoo, herbal, or medicated shampoo. This is true, also a raw egg once/twice a week will help Just a doggy deodorant will do. Otherwise buy some lavender (calming down) aromatherapy, mix that in with some oil put some on a glove and wipe that over the dog. The oil makes the dog shine, the lavender gives it a nice smell Mel
  13. I started the day I got my pup, she was almost 14 weeks. The very next day we went to puppy preschool and now at the age of 8 months she had 2 lessons in level 3 and is doing very well. I am still waiting for her to plateaux... She is picking thing up so quickly that I wished I had more time for her and erh training
  14. you can also order them straight from the manufactuer, I think the website was www.marscoatking.com.au if not pm me and I look it up for you.
  15. I've been washing dogs for over 7 yrs now and not planned to stop soon (sometimes thinking about it) I love my work and the fact, being my own business, I can make my own hours.
  16. Ok, this goes totally agains my proffession but why bath a dog when it is not nessecary. In The Netherlands dogs get a bath roughly once/twice a year when they stink too much after swimming in a creek. So to answer your question no as long as the smell does not bother you and the dog does not have any skin problems I don't think you HAVE to wash it... MEL
  17. if it is the vet I think it is, he only charge $66 for a C7 wich is $10 less than an average vet charges for a C5. This is a really good vet and I have been coming here for years. He told me that the other vets are not up to date......
