  1. Just wondering if anyone would know what the cause of a phantom pregnancy in a desexed female would be? I'm interested because this happened to one of the females we were puppy raising for the Guide Dogs. She was about 18mths old at the time.
  2. awesome - will go out and buy some. thank you!
  3. Sorry to hijack, but can one of you professional groomers please tell me what i should be using to lubricate or clean my clippers and blades with? I have Andis clippers with Oster blades and I have no idea how to care for them. They will be used about every six weeks or so on one dog. Thanks heaps
  4. Got mine second hand from a dog groomer - she was upgrading. I think that a lot of them upgrade every year or so for tax reasons... try asking around. Mine are used, but have been very well looked after and I'm very happy with them. They are Andis.
  5. I'll start with the first pic... This is called the "Shoulda.used.scissors" tail clip, my own unique invention and I am very proud
  6. gosh i really don't have a clue.. i have been feeding 1 cup of kibble a day, nomatter what brand he's on. (he gets chicken mince and pasta, plus dog roll and bones as well.) but i haven't altered how much i feed depending on the brand.... i dont even know how to calculate it. i've seen the info on the back of the packs, but it hasn't applied to my dog because i feed him extra stuff... he is right in the middle of the healthy weight range for him though.
  7. If she wants a dog that doesn't shed, she can get a purebred poodle or lagotto from a registered breeder. She will know about poodles, and has she seen how gorgeous lagotti are? They are adorable... here's a pic http://www.dogs.net.au/lagotto/ If she wants a 'spoodle' or other mix, she should avoid puppies, because as others have said, their coats change at about 12 months, and you can't tell if they will shed or not when they are puppies. If she's set on a mix breed, she should go for a rescue dog. They are normally a bit older and their foster carers can tell you about their personalities, how much they shed, etc. See my dog in my signature? He was a rescue dog. Nothing wrong with rescues, and you'd be saving a life.
  8. mine was on tiles... lol fine bunch we are
  9. Got my stuff today thanks everyone At first i thought they'd sent me the wrong brand of Slicker because it didn't say 'doggy man' on the packet... but it says it on the other side of the brush if you open it, so i think it's right...
  10. thank you sheree e4 strange that they'd leave that off the packet (about waiting after a bath before applying.) Did they mention why it had to all go behind the neck? I think that on a bigger dog it makes sense to put some above the tail like my dog's trainer showed us... otherwise it seems to just run into the fur and not the skin behind the neck if it's all put there... but that's just me... I guess I should be doing what they recommend though!
  11. ebay is a good place to get the blades fairly cheaply, if you do decide to get a new one.
  12. They sure are... guess I'm lucky that he doesn't complain when fur comes out with them too... it looks painful The only time he complained is when he had one on his willy
  13. Dropped the blade off my clippers after the first time I used them. It nicked the very tip off the top of one of the teeth.. so don't worry you're not the only one!
  14. i asked a vet about it and was told it's an 'old wives tale' and not to bother.... but im reserving my judgement because i have heard that some people swear by it to buy their dogs some time to get to the vet.
  15. I recently clipped my labradoodle for the first time, with the help and advice of a lot of DOLers I would say scissor the tail, top of head, around face and legs. Clip the body and underarms and tummy. You could probably clip the legs if you wanted to instead of scissoring, it's up to you. When clipping or scissoring around the toes, be careful of the skin between the toes. Make sure when you scissor the face that the scissors are pointing away from the eyes... I found it quite tricky. You may need somebody to help hold her still while you do her face. Comb her fringe forward and scissor in a curve, don't do it straight across or it will look funny. Anyone please correct me if any of that is wrong... I probably shouldn't really be giving advice though, I had a funny looking labradoodle when I was done but at least his cut is practical There are some people with a lot more experience on here who might help you out This is my dog clipped. As you can see, don't clip the tail unless it's really matted! I used a number 4 blade on his back, and scissored his head.
  16. thanks I will I didn't know the thing about the ingredients.... it's all pretty confusing to me. I just changed him from Chum (because I got told it wasn't the best) to Optimum because I got a free sample thing... I hope that it's better than Chum, but yeah, it's still from the supermarket. I want to look into getting the ones you and others have suggested though I might need to rethink how I budget first... some of that stuff is really expensive. But I'm sure it's worth it for their health ;)
