  7. Because they're not a regulatory body. They cannot act outside of their function. They're not copping out. People can't just create enforcement powers out of thin air. The ANKC is a co-ordinating body. Not a government empowered regulator of the public's activities. "Australian National Kennel Council has developed co-operation between the 8 Controlling Bodies and made a large contribution towards improving dog showing, breeding and other canine activities in Australia" See their website for full details of what they actually are: http://www.ankc.org.au/default.aspx If you have a read of "history" it might make things a little clearer. There isn't always someone else to blame or to take charge. Sometime we need to stand up and say - "that person is a jerk, I don't agree with what they are doing and will not participate, so I will promote others to hopefully do the same". People in our society are quick to point a finger and say "someone" should fix that. Yet we are just as likely to turn around and complain about some other infringement of our privacy or civil liberties. Police state or not? Personal responsibilty or not? There are arguments for both, it's not an easy issue. Why or how people believe that because someone belongs to a certain group they are automatically doing what THEY think is ethical and are surprised when they find that they are not is a separate issue. The ANKC were set up to keep a bonefide stud registry and their only interest can be what someone does with the dogs on their registry and they are not able to- even if they want to dictate what someone can and cant do with any other thing in their life including their other dogs and to some degreee even their registered dogs. You cant expect that people will learn the facts and not have a reaction to having the myths regarding what they believed exposed. Because of the laws they couldnt do anything to change their codes to restrict people anyway - so how or why would they police it?
  8. By the way Id get it done much quicker if you lot didnt talk so much The vets and retail businesses staying open 24 hours a day would help too. ;)

  10. Yes it is according to our ethics and morals but not according to their agreed code of conduct and saying so about someone out loud gets you sued. What we think doesnt count - its what they agree to which does.
  11. Ethics are a very personal issue. A human can justify almost anything if they want to. A code of ethics is a basic minimum standard of behaviour for a group of people which they agree to abide by. As we have seen for some what they actually agree to is all they consider and calling them un ethical gets you beaten up because they are within their code of ethics. The whole dog world is a fascinating study and its difficult to try to pin point where the mythology surrounding purebred registered breeders started and how it has perpetuated. People who have been within the group sometimes for decades will argue that their codes prevent them from doing certain activities. New kids came in and give the code a tick and never really read it because they are exposed to thise who dont know what it says either and they have behaved and advocated certain behaviours because of convention. The fact that people agree to a code of conduct without first being aware of what it is exactly that they are agreeing to as a base line minimum standard is concerning because if they dont know what they can do then it begs the question do they understand what they cant do. The reality is the ONLY thing a registered purebred ANKC breeder can do which any other breeder cant do is register their puppies on a that stud registry and partici[pate in ANKC sanctioned events. Like it or not there is nothing a registered purebred ANKC breeder cant do that any other member of our society cant do with any dogs which are not regsitered with that stud registr. Mandatory codes for breeding and state POCTAA are all harder to comply with than any state Code of conduct which all breeders come under. whether we want to admit it or not the commercial puppy farmers codes of conduct are more restrictive than any of the states CC codes. How we got to a point where a large section of society has had the belief that registered purebred breeders are automatically doing one thing or another when they never were is a whole new topic.
  12. However, this in my opinion is outside the normal behaviour for a registered breeder and I would call it rare. There are good an bad in everything and just as rescue has people who take donations as a rescue org and breed the dogs they rescue and pretend they were pregnant when they got them, sell them off already pregnant with the promise the new owner will get their money back soon when the litter is due, sell the puppies for multiple litters one "rescue bitch has" sell them as entire breeding pairs etc crap happens but I still think its a reasonably un common issue.
  13. They are not breaching their codes of conduct and even if there are main registered dogs being used - proving it is another thing altogether, proving the dog didnt jump the fence and throw the leg over or that someone else who lives on the property isnt the breeder of the non registered ones is virtually impossible. 16 years ago I was involved in a rescue which was on a current affair program. She was bought under attention because she was selling non papered purebred and cross bred dogs to asian dealers who were exporting to Overseas pet shops and the people at the air port were saying they were going out too young. She was ordered to clean up her kennels and didnt miss a day of operation and is still breeding with a different prefix the same way. 12 months ago there was a registered breeder on RSPCA animal rescue who was breeding cross bred as well as registered purebred dogs with more champions to her name than most others over a 30 plus year period. The codes of ethics and fair trading laws allow anyone to breed as many as they want, sell to whom ever they want and the CCs only have a say in what they can and cant do with their registered dogs. Think it through how could they tell anyone that they cant own a cross bred dog or an unpapered one as well as their registered dogs then how could they possibly have any control over what someone does with their own property which the CCs have no interest in or control over. There is one who is a member here who openly discusses her cross breeding program but she breeds the purebreds and is an registered breeder while her partner breeds cross bred dogs - how do you stop her partner from doing what ever he wants with any dog he wants if he isnt a member? Are they the same dogs? Prove it and even if they are - then prove the member allowed it to happen. Nothing new here - its a myth that's been pushed and every time it comes up people cant believe it. After all registered breeders cant breed cross breds, they cant sell to pet shops and they have to test - wrong. They can do all of these things and still be ethical under their agreement to their codes of conduct and remain members.
  14. No they have the accommodation booked for us - you need to call them and tell them you are with us and you will get a room with the discounts.
  15. O.K. The last of the calendars already sold will go out in the mail tomorrow. We have sold 20 which gives Pacers and Silky Rescue $100 each. Great stuff - Thank You!
  16. Yep definitely but if we could take them more places and live more freely with them if they had good manners perhaps more people would be stimulated into ensuring more had good manners. If taking your dog to the local cafe and enjoying human company with people who had dogs in common, if taking them to more places promoted them as a breed and showed people what can be done if they have good manners perhaps more people would see a bigger reward for them as well as their dogs if they went a bit further with ensuring they could be taken out and included. Idiots cant be cured and there will always be some but its difficult to understand why its become so restictive. The more you restrict them the less socialised they become, the less places you can take them the less time you spend in their company. When I was a kid - dogs were everywhere and people knew if their dog was going to give anyone or any other animal any grief chances were it would be shot. If you got a new puppy it was shared around the neighbourhood, mixed with lots of kids and other dogs and they just tagged along with everything we did. Neighbour idiots were dealt with quickly with a knock on the door and told to pull their dogs into line quickly or have it reported and taken away. When it was taken away it was dead - no second chances.
  17. The difference is that here if a person is an idiot and takes their dog out and it has no manners - jumps all over people cocks its leg on dining room table legs etc rather than simply chucking the owner and the dog out we bring in laws - in case we are also idiots. If someone walks their dog off leash and it bounds all over sun bakers and drops a darky their owners dont pick up - rather than go after the idiots we bring in laws in case we are idiots too. If someone allows their dog to roam and have unwanted puppies all over town we bring in compulsory desexing in case everyone else is an idiot too. If someone breeds a bunch of puppies in filthy conditions we bring in laws which chase off the competition and those doing the right thing just in case we all breed too many in rotten conditions instead of bouncing the rotten idiots out of existence. Then when the laws dont do anything to control the idiots because there is no ability to police them anyway and all they do is ensure we cant enjoy our dogs the way we want to they bring in more and more and more laws - in case. Whats more they beat their drum and brain wash half the population into believing its the answer when world wide its proven that it isnt the answer.
  18. This is Lilli's website -Lilli is nominated for master Breeder of the Year and it explains a heap about the difference or lack there of in the breed. http://www.takasvolkodav.com/page2.asp
  19. how stupid! if you don't advertise where most people look how are these people ever going to find out about good breeders and good dogs It's up to the breeder to then vet any potential owner no matter where they come from. Yep. This thought process has been plugged by animal rights and it has huge consequences. It is stupid.
  20. Not true - this was a decision via the ACCC there was no choice. If you remove them from the membership for selling to a pet shop they can no longer register their puppies on the ANKC register - it devalues their product and removes their markets and in some states removes the ability they have for lowered rates and exemptions with councils and regos etc. The ANKC is the only registry which has FCI affiliation and it removes the ability to access and sell over seas.It removes their ability to show or compete with their dogs which again limits their market and de values their product. You are restricting them in where they can seel their product over someone who is not a member. You cant tell someone where they can or cannot sell their products, you can not collude and fix prices you can not participate in anti competitive or inequitable trade practices. These are federal laws.
  21. I need to say again around about now that some of the stories I hear because of the awards are incredible. These are things we would never hear about or know if the awards didnt exist. They give me the best excuse ever to get to know you all a little bit more personally and the opportunity Ive had to laugh, cry and chat and share your joy with you makes me really love the idea of having the chance to catch up in the flesh on the awards presentation day. Im genuinely disappointed that every single one who is nominated isnt able to make it to the event. Its difficult to put into words the feelings I have coming into the home stretch but suffice to say I love my job! Many of you shrug it off and tell me you have done nothing that anyone else wouldnt have done - not true. What you feel are small services impact hugely on the people and the dogs involved. This year we allowed the people who nominated to ask their identity and what was said in the nomination was kept secret. That allowed us and the judges to see what was being said but I would much rather the opportunity to read what people have said to the person being nominated. I think that its much better for them to know who is nominating them and what they have to say.Its certainly better for me to read them out loud I think most people who heard the nomination being read would say it was a pretty awesome experience so Im voting for the ability for those nominating in future to have the ability to keep it a secret removed. Anyway to those who nominated someone even if you wouldnt let me tell them who you are and what you said - thank you. You helped to make it an enjoyable experience for all involved and we know it will only get better as the actual awards evening approaches. For those who have been nominated I cant tell you enough how wonderful its been to get to know you and know your stories.I hope you use the fact you have been nominated to strutt your stuff , feel great and use it to promote your businesses, kennels and rescue services, your dogs and their breed. To Troy - dogzonline - who is our Principal sponsor and has supported the awards and contributed so much to their success if you could hear what I hear you would know the great things so many people think about you as I move through the nominations and I cant say loudly enough or often enough - Thank you. To Judi - Prok9 who has stood by us from the very beginning and has been involved as a sponsor - Thank you. To Eukanuba, Pet Plan Insurance and Fit Fur Life what an honour its been to be associated with you as sponsors and its not over yet. The awards evening will be awesome! To the judges - you sure do have your work cut out for you and thank you for keeping who you are a secret in the true spirit of the awards. Nominations still have a little way to go as I wait for those who Ive left messages with to call back and I chase down contact details which were missing from the nomination forms but they are almost done and will be ready to send off to the judges and ready to be listed in the program and the website by the end of the week. Thanks everyone - Its an absolute honour.
  22. Flare your nostrils and squueze the bulb of your nose - notice how it feels. Then pinch the mid section of your top lip. Notice the difference If the vulva doesnt feel like your top lip its not time. Separate them all day and then feed them raw chicken wings late afternoon. Then put them back together. What you may be seeing is one of two things either she isnt ready or they have had sex really early morning before you see it or over night.
  23. Years ago I did exactly this and everywhere I went and everyone I spoke with told me the person was a good dog person and I shouldnt have any worries in selling him 2 female puppies which he said were for his grandaughters. He was a very successful exhibitor and breeder. Turned out he was an agent for an overseas puppy farm and stung me and several others at the same time.
