  1. Julie you are an amazing woman who has such endless passion and enthusiasm for all that you do. The MDBA and the awards are a wonderful credit to you and your small group of helpers. Thanks but that small group of helpers do all the hard work I just get to make people feel good
  2. Working on what we will do next year to make it more spectacular and a bit more fun.
  3. For those who attended don't forget the offer made by Best Friend Resort for those who were there.
  4. That's the one I posted above is it good pirate? Greyhound people I know have raved about it. I've just sent them an email about details. They seem more dog friendly than places i've tried so far but need to find out whether they are allowed on the beds (site says they sleep inside but no mention of beds) and also the amount of seclusion. The site details suggests accomodation around a central communal area but maybe one of their cabins is further away. I'll post their response here when i get it. oops, work got in the way, didn't get to go this time and forgot to update! they did get back to me and it does sound like doggie heaven! they have no further restrictions, only rule is dogs must sleep inside which is perfect! apparently the properties aren't that secluded as i was expecting but the deluxe cabins are a bit further out and have more space around them. will have to give it a shot next chance we get :) Thanks all. Best Friend won Best Dog Friendly Tourist resort in our awards on Saturday Night - they also made a great offer to everyone who attended too!
  5. That's awful - do you need anything? thanks Steve for the offer but thank god we had insurance and they are organising everything and I got all 3 dogs out of the house and some great friends who put the dogs up for us :) O.K. But say so if you need a hand
  6. Well seriously Im a bit old for young men to be taking their undies off around me
  7. Good to see you here again Sharon Hope you find them. Julie
  8. Steve, I tried to send you a PM but you can't receive any messages. Try again now
  9. That's awful - do you need anything?
  10. The official photos are going up on the website later today but this one was sent to me from Barks in the Park - Dog Walker form WA Its Barks in the Park, Vanessa Joy - Responsible Dog Owner and Julie and Billy Smyth Smart Dog Owner winners.
  11. I just wanted to say here congratulations to all of the nominees and winners at the MDBA Dog Owners Choice Awards. It was a great night with 160 people with Rescue highly represented. YP Puppy Rescue took off Master Rescuer of the Year and Kellie Vickers from AWDRI won the Foster Carer of the Year. Nominations are now open for the 8th with a new category to help rescue – Volunteer fundraiser of the Year too. Photos will be up soon. Thanks also to everyone who placed a nomination. Julie
  12. The Canine Groomer of the year isnt about the grooming or the services you provide - its about how you treat the dogs and the clients. There are plenty of other awards that cover the business and the extras etc - skill level. Nomination have to come from your clients.
  13. It was a truly great night and it just gets better and better each year Lots of dogz people there most of whom Id already met in previous years but some new ones too. I always feel bad as not everyone can win but every nominee was a star. Some of the winners had a sook which as always sends me off too but its wonderful to see how much it means to everyone to be nominated and to win. The MC who is a magician was awesome with perfect timing for his tricks and comments. The winners were also asked to speak this year too as we had more time which worked well so next yearI might even give them warning so they can be more prepared. The only negative for me was that I had to wear high heeled shoes When Britt's pet Taxi won I thought the roof might befalling as the whole room seemed to be yelling and banging and congratulating her. You missed a good night Anne and I missed you more than anyone. Ive always relied on you to give honest feedback and give guidance on the whole event coming together. I haven't forgotten that without you we wouldn't be looking as good each year that we do now and I'm forever grateful that you put in the help you did in the early days to enable us to learn how to do it all. Better put it in your calendar for next year – late May. Nominations are now open for the 8th and notice there is one category out – no more Pet Insurance category and one in Volunteer fundraiser of the year.
  14. Its not just for looking after the animals - its the property and daily things that need to be done such as watering trees etc.
  15. I always pay for mine $150 a day.
  16. No both dogs have to have main register papers to have a litter registered with the ANKC - but you can use limited register papers to breed them with other registries.
  17. All of the states ANKC kennels clubs operate under the ANKC but not all of the kennel clubs do - and you get all of that and more on an MDBA registered pedigree and most others from various registries many of whom have nothing to do with the ANKC My apologies Steve, I meant the ANKC state kennel clubs :) Yep I knew that but point is there is a situation where we know what we mean but because there are now so many registered breeders who are regsitered with heaps of different places and not just ANKC regsitered breeders we need to educate em and be specific and demand others are specific when advertising. Gumtree ask - are you a registered breeder - you can tick yes and you are if you are registered as a breeder with your council in many places and its not only ANKC

  19. yes and no. helps if buyer knows their consumer rights and are clear about what they expect or understand by "registered" and "purebred" etc. Straight up if they think they're buying a show dog and they tell the seller that - then the seller sells them a puppy with no ANKC papers - that seller is commiting fraud. It's not really about whether they're "technically" telling the truth - it's about what "any reasonable member of the public" would understand by their ad. Which of course is a joy for lawyers, but the enforcement of "Australian consumer law" is starting to be applied to puppy vendors. Especially pet shops. But to some extent - anyone who puts an ad in writing on gumtree or the trading post or email - could also be subject to it. This is the WA take on it. http://www.commerce....uying_a_pet.pdf Well you see that's not true either - Just because you cant put the dog in an ANKC affiliated show doesnt mean you cant show the dog anywhere else.
  20. Restricting stud dogs to those which are owned by members restricts the gene pool.
  21. NSW 35 years ago we didn't have to give papers out - that only came in when limited register was instigated. Just because everyone who is involved in ANKC registered dogs thinks the term registered without qualification of who they are registered with is the go that doesn't make it so. People buying puppies need to ask who are you registered with and those advertising need to qualify who they are registered with because reality is you could be registered with numerous orgs.
  22. Well one would think if it were really against the spirit of the COE that by now they would have changed it so it more closely resembled their spirit - they have after all had a hundred or so years
  23. Yep its heaps more common that you would think and many breeders some opf whom advertise on this site do it all the time.
  24. No breach there. Doesn't say the bitch has to be owned by anyone or any member in particular just that she must be registered - that's done when its born. See it all the time.
