  2. Leave it up to Mum she will tell them when enough is enough.
  3. Makes no difference how long the pups feed as anti bodies are set in the first day or two. In days gone by all pups went to their new homes at 6 weeks - only reason the 8 week period was introduced was due to the vaccinations needing 10 to 14 days to cut in - new vaccines only need a couple of days to do that. Still against code of ethics and in some states the law for pups to go home early even though some argue its better for the pup to learn the socialising needed at the new home more than it needs play with its litter mates.
  4. agree. Problem I think its biased by the person who has written it - and not necessarily what is best for dogs
  5. Available now - Postage calculated in the shop My link
  6. By the way part of my contract is for people to bring the dog back to me if they cant keep it any more but if someone said to me - if I cant keep it will you take it back it would be a no sale.
  7. Whether you breed or rescue you have to know at any given time what you can and can't cope with and do regardless of what you want to do. If you don't you end up being on the 6 oclock news because you have more than you and your energy, resources and pocket can cope with. Trying to keep everyone and everything happy without knowing where to say No makes everyone and all animals miserable. Sometimes things change slowly such as growing old or becoming less healthy and sometimes life crashes in on you and its an instant need for a permanent or temporary change. What is good for you one day isn't necessarily good tomorrow. People live under all types of situations and few breeders I know have money invested that they don't touch in case one of their dogs come back it he next 15 or so years in case they will need to feed it and vet it etc. Not many I know could chuck money at rescue to help with dogs they haven't bred either. Many of us have restrictions on how many dogs we can have on our properties, so taking in any dog can be a huge problem. Very recently I have been hit with a pretty good side swipe with one of my son's requiring massive specialist medical treatment that no one could have ever seen coming. Its meant me racing around to get him to appointments and care for him and income that was coming into my household radically reduced. There is massive pressure on and even though if I had to I would still take back one of my Maremma it would be a very huge deal right now.Not everyone has 30 acres and grow their own food so if its hard for me imagine how hard it would be for someone who has had to move to a unit and live on new start because they lost their job etc. How hard does it have to be to get a breeder off the hook without being clubbed as a bad breeder because they cant help in tangible ways? Even finding a few dollars to help rescue out is money I don't have to give without making something else that relies on me suffer. Bloody hell if one of my older kids needed a donation or even small financial help or somewhere to stay right now I would be looking for how to "rally around" rather than bring them back home and give them money! When I had them I expected to be able to always to be able to help them in tangible ways too. To help my 40 year old son out if he needs it literally takes from my 17 year old to do it. When 6 kids got to 21 and no longer lived at home I moved to a smaller house and my lifestyle changed – should I have kept the big house and not spent my money in case they need to come home or need help between when I had them and when I die ?Should I pay money for homeless children and people I didn't bring into the world and make the ones I did go without? Why do you expect that of a breeder because a dog happens to be their breed? What reason is good enough to get them off the hook and do you have the right to demand they give you their reasons? People [breeders] should not have to go through their personal situation and reasons as to why right now they can't do what has become expected of them. They shouldn't have to defend themselves for not being able to help when they have done all they can to find great homes for the puppies, most times being support after the pup goes home etc for the dog they bred because the buyer can't keep their dogs. They shouldn't be the ones being asked and expected to pay and help with tangibles it should be the person who has handed over THEIR responsibility and placed the dog in this position.
  8. what I do regarding maremmas is always for the dogs.. which is why from time to time i help out idiots who should rightfully be left to stew in the situation of their own making..but it is their dogs who pay the price H yep
  9. By the way - you cant win anyway - years ago when I was younger and had more energy and resources I used to occasionally take in a dog and rehome them that I didnt breed of one of my breeds and all that got me was other breeders and rescue accusing me of wanting to do that to breed them.
  10. As far as should I could, would I, should I bring an adult Maremma here that I didnt breed - no. Depending on what is here at the time and the resources I have at the time it's hard enough to bring one of my own back without considering anyone else's.
  11. things are not always black and white and in my opinion when someone takes a puppy they should know that its their responsibility and that they cant keep the dog for a couple of years and throw it back .Byt crappy things happen to dog owners and breeders - ideally an owner will keep the dog its whole life and if that's not possible the breeder will help to find it a new home but life is not always accommodating .
  12. Doesnt really matter whether she supports breeding at all or not at all. its the way thing have been done that counts.
  13. Thats the thing about fanatics - let em go and they will blow each other up.
  14. Quote from that article "A few inquiries later and most of those I look up to in animal welfare have also fallen victims to Malicious attacks by Tranter, in her latest tirade she attacks The Australian Alliance animal welfare division, other rescuers and a variety of activists, so what is Miss Tranter up to? In her her most recent tirade, she attacks rally's being held to support children with disability's, as if that offends her, where I have always believed empathy for animals and children went hand in hand. " end Quote Sounds like lots of enemies to me.
  15. Thats my point - its not just the obvious suspects = bad bad breeders - that may be tracking her and giving it back. Enemies in many camps me thinks.
  16. Well I reckon her real problems started when she took on people who played the same way that she does and it wasn't breeders. Dog Breeders are unlikely to go to the extent she claims have been taken. Better to look among those within her own ranks http://www.markmaldridge.com/DEBRA-TRANTER-THE-TRUTH.html
  17. See - that is the difference between fat and not fat. No one expects Labs to look like conditioned APBT's or Greyhounds, just for them not to be carrying loads of excess weight and to have reasonable muscle tone. Your dog is gorgeous Tapua and it's disheartening to hear you've lost points for the dogs being 'too athletic'! Eh I am used to it but they are consistent in the ring and I am proud of that we gained 2 1st and a second at the Royal this year and a 1st/a 2nd & 2 3rds at the speciality. To me they rank higher than a general specials win any day :)I am much more prouder of my quiet achievers with 3 gaining their RN, & CCD in he last 12 months :) then there are the service dogs - I like my dogs to have a purposeful life.
  18. Nominations now open for the 8th Dog Owners Choice Awards - Great way to make your vet and vet nurse feel appreciated Link
  19. Being registered with dogs Victoria - by itself does not equate with "trusted". There are a few who meet the rules but I wouldn't want a dog from them - mostly because they have far too many litters for the puppies to get enough human attention (socialisation). If she didn't want the puppies she sold to be breeding - she should get them desexed before she sells them. Was it her that gave you the phone number for "Dogs Victoria"? And did "Dogs Victoria" confirm that she was indeed registered with them. This is from the Dogs Victoria Website: http://www.dogsvicto...nRulesRegs.aspx
  20. By the way - yes I care but Im not up for throwing any purebred legal breed under a train in order to try to change the law .
  21. Mita you edited your post - when I saw it it didnt have the extra bit added so if Anne was answering when you edited she wouldn't have seen it either. I was answering at that time too but happened to see your edit in time. Anne didnt change it she simply quoted the original post.
