  1. Its a bit like having the wrong coloured hand bag :D
  2. Lexi was one of the demo dogs I took yesterday. She has lots of issues and hasn't had the finness training that the others have had. In fact over the last 3 months she has done very little. She regularly moves during her SFE, in fact she actually leans away as the person walks towards her and always moves at least 1 foot as I return to her. Well today - she was much more confident, didn't lean as the judge walked towards her and kept all 4 feet firmly planted as I returned to her. Yee Har 20/20 for SFE Thank you Sue!!!!!!!!
  3. I think I could make some money renting myself out as a distraction. :D There are a couple of dogs that were doing really well until I walked anywhere near them and then they lost it
  4. Lara had a wonderful day and she has been alseep since we got home. All these new exercises that she thinks that she has never seen before. Oh to get old have get doggie alzheimers What did I learn. Hmm once again there are big holes in my stay training which is why my dogs moves in the SFE and drops during the sit stays. Sue did a terrific job with Katie a 17 week old BC puppy - and as I said at the time - she was doing better stays than my UD dog
  5. Glucosamine Hcl has more bioavailablity for dogs. It has to do with the molecular structure. So is the sulphate harmful? The reason I ask is one of my kids has an autoimmune issue and the specialist asked me to check if what I was giving her was sulphate and if it was to stop it immediately. Interestingly, the tub was given to me by a friend whose mum was taking it but it was causing heart issues????
  6. Can anybody enlighten me on why we shouldn't be giving our dogs Glucosamine Sulphate?
  7. Just to hijack the thread for a second Kathq were you are the Ekka?
  8. So do you think I should use the same leather article for a couple of weeks in a row and air the rest of the set for 4 or 5 days as per normal? I am rotating two and a half sets at the moment. We started with the Sue H method of lots of different things from around the house to bring back, then started substituting articles, metal first followed by wood then the leather. Having said all that maybe I am asking/expecting too much too soon as we only started on this less than 4 weeks ago. She just seemed to picking it up so quick. in case you hadn't guessed I have never trained for this level before but my girl seems to be having the time of her life. Goodonya for giving it a go I am not sure if you have been having issues with leather or not. As I said I use the same leather article for a couple of weeks until the dog is really sure of the exercise. So if you are having issues then give this a try. let us all know how you get on.
  9. Leather is the hardest of the three for the dog to get right because of the strong natural smell. When teaching leather I use the same leather article to begin with for the first few weeks - this way it is strongly smelling of me which seems to help. I don't believe that using a leather lead would make any difference at all.
  10. A few but not many in my breed,in fact there very fair & few between. If it works out i have a youngster here i will train for the following year ,he could be ready next year but i would sooner put the time & effort in & do it safely. 2 blondes on a bike plus i could get in trouble if Labs is behind & i raise my hand, her dog may no longer be under effective control. I have to work on the basic obedience but that should be no issues LOL - I can't imagine Labs biking 20km and speak the entire time OOps running away to hide Don't get too concerned about the obedience - its very very basic . Its forward halt (requiring a sit)and then a very short recall from memory and I think it is all on lead. I am seeing the judge on the weekend if you want me to check
  11. Is she who you referred me to a few months back, or someone else? Hope she's ok. No - most of us are now taking our dogs to have accupuncture with Deb Nook. She is brilliant
  12. Liz is not practicing at the moment. She is unwell.
  13. I wonder how many GR CH have ET at the end of their name. Have you managed to talk Labs into doing it with you
  14. The ET is on the 5th September in Yangebup and I have been told that this is a much better location than where they used to hold it and where I did my one and only ET where the dogs had to swim to get around the course. I would consider biking along the cyclepath past Champion Lakes for training. Have you put a padded bike seat on your Xmas wish list????
  15. I take my kids to the vet regularly for weighing - so they go in, jump on the scales get a treat and come out. Its a great experience for them and nothing nasty happens. You could give this a go.
  16. Yee har well done We don't have tunnellers in WA - whats invloved and do you find the dog becomes tunnell obsessed on a normal agility course?
  17. Let me offer you some encouragement and say Beans is proof that the touch game and pairing it with food does work. She scored 30/30 for heel free on Saturday ;) Its hard not to reward efforts that are near enough and sometimes you don't even realise that you are doing it
  18. So Rubystar - dare I ask how your lesson with the guru went????
  19. Tiggy - I will come and say hi - be warned you will go home mentally tired from all the things you want to go home and try. I'll be the one with the noisy Staffy . I will keep my ears open for you Dont' forget to bring lots of yummy treats and toys if she prefers toys.
  20. Tiggy - I will come and say hi - be warned you will go home mentally tired from all the things you want to go home and try.
  21. Told her Alex can be demo dog as he stood in his sit stay , fell over in his stand stay , then flipped in his down stay this afternoon at K9 When are the Nats again??? Hmm maybe you and I could do strategic pairs - nobody would ever know Guess what we are practicing every day/night
  22. Huge congratulations Has CK ever been injured jumping for a frisbee???
  23. I will be there but without a dog, unless I can get puppy puppy up to doing stays by the end of the week Actually hmm Beans dropped during her sit stay on Saturday - as she runs off to email the guru to see if she can take Beans
  24. Originally I would wait the dog out to stop chewing the article and then click and treat. But have found this is not a good plan. Now the moment the dog chews the article I take it off them withhold the article for a couple of seconds and then give it back and reward the take and hold. You can use a non reward marker eg too bad or wrong when they munch it.
  25. Our judges in WA would allow it. I have had a dog struggling with heelwork - so I have helped her along and then done another exercise or two and left the ring on a positive note. In WA they have now introduced Not for Competition in obedience. It costs you half a normal entry and they put you at the end of the catalogue and you can go in and have the judge call a round for you and you can do what you like (except use food or toys). There are a few people using this in novice and CCD in preparation for the Nationals which are here in October. I was only just thinking about this today! Stop stealing my thoughts I am seriously considering entering an upcoming trial and entering both girls in NFC to see how we go in preparation for the Nationals. I was actually going to post and ask opinions on this, but you beat me to it! Rubystar - I think you might be running out of time - I don't think there are many trials left before the Nationals - so you better dig out your K9 News and check.
