    Tess

Oh Pheeps, it feels like we have known Tess forever on Dol, and followed you both through the highs & lows. Our deepest sympathy and huge hugs. fifi, danny & hounds xxxxxx
  2. Lowenhart, I've already said a few times, yes, bitches go early, that's not in dispute at all !!!! :-) Just no excuse for it to be at a show. fifi edited to clarify.
  3. I don't want to give the impression that this behaviour is endemic to SA, its only a few exhibitors and it happens at most established canine grounds from QLD to WA. I think for newbies, either set up with an exhibitor you already know, or perhaps don't set up in the front row at first. Anyway, there's heaps more room if your gazebo is off the main drag, you just need to keep an eye on when you are due in the ring. fifi
  4. Sorry Oakway, The human analogy doen't compare, We know EXACTLEY when bitches are due, we know Exactley when they were mated, so if you don't take a bitch out who is in whelp - there can't be an accident if they go early. fifi Come off it.......ask in the breeders forum how many bitches have gone into labor un expectantly. I have had bitches whelp a week early. read my bolded bit above......if they are'nt away from home, then an early whelping is not a problem. Of course they can and do go early - just doesn't need to be at a show.
  5. I've seen first hand the SACA spot owners ! wasn't there even a rumour about saca allowing some spots to be allocated & paid for annually ? Country & Ag shows in NSW are great, first come, first served. And yes, because the rings change at country shows, there's less likelihood of 'ownership'. It's the established canine grounds with permanent rings where proprietal behaviour is more likely. fifi

  7. In my world there's one rule, once mated - no shows. It's appalling to think of bitches in whelp and actually whelping at a show, for dog's sake its a dog show - not life & death if you miss a couple. fifi edited to add words
  8. :) Oh Newfsie, I'm so sad this day finally came for Tobias. His final days were filled with love. You were so brave to send him when he was ready. huge hugs and wolfie leans, fifi & hounds xxxx
  9. pewithers, dogs have many more pairs of Alleles than humans, its not even a comparison. Have you studied canine genetics ? fifi
  10. Thanks for the results SSM, congrats to all our houndie folk :-)) fifi

  12. Who was the Irish Wolfhound please ? was it Irish lassie's Hagan ? fifi
  13. Yes, I was looking for clarification of that too bulldust. fifi

  15. I have no doubts about the intentions of peta and the actions of the rspca. I do however reserve the right to my own values and beliefs, that have no links to extremist organisations. fifi
  16. I think we can apply many of them in moderation, supporting some of those ideas doesn't mean black & white. fifi
  17. I was involved in the animal Lib & anti-vivisection movement many years ago, and I actually agree with quite a number on that list. (in fact I support....1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, if done with local economic and cultural issues in mind, and applied with flexibility) Being pro animal rights doesn't have to put one in the extremist camp, it seems to be a dirty work amoung dog people to be pro animal welfare. I am against the persecution by animal bodies of registered breeders and the reduction of breeder/exhibitor rights. fifi
  18. OMG ! that car yard sign....'Riverside Motors' will have to change their name to middle of the river autos !! poor buggers. fifi

  20. OH no Trish, the kids must be devastated Poor little chickies, every life is so precious - furry or feathered. Don't beat yoursself up, I know so many animals have been lost with the flooding, you just don't know when & where the water will go. hugs to you all fifi
  21. Never quoted anyone saying judges are saints. Analysis and synthesis of the events and comments, together with a literal licence to post a point of view, are what forums are composed of. To put it another way, forums create the space for writers to be creative, or expressive, if that's what fits your muse. Do you have insecurities about your level of intelligence or is there another reason as to why you speak like that? It's okay Sas, he's a teacher and we is all dummies or it could be the Nimbin air !!! fifi
  22. Why would you be away when your large breed bitch is whelping ?
  23. Well apparently I only keep 'those big dogs' for kinky sex !!! oh and I was a lesbian until OH moved in !! had a neighbour come running down to tell me that not long after I moved in here !! she stood there gaping, waiting I assume for my hysterical denial, when I burst into fits of laughter !!! she kept asking ..."WELL???" and I just thanked her for the heads up and went inside !!! I watched her shuffle as fast as she could back to the nearest gossip queen's house !! OMG that kept me amused for a long time !!! fifi
  24. Being ill is nothing do to with your sleeping arrangements, I'd be more concerned with him being vaccinated while unwell, vet should really have waited a week until he was back to himself. Breeder sounds like they've reacted somewhat strangely if they've had the same info you've given us here. fifi
  25. I use; * Swinging the pup, from head height to through the knees head down, wrapped tightly in a small towel * at work - dopram under the tongue and then the other things below... * in the whelping box rescue remedy on the tongue - a few drops * I rub very vigorously with a rough towel (avoiding the umbilical area) * if still no response, a hot water bath, holding head out of water and massaging the pup like a wet sausage, then rub with hot towels from the dryer * mouth to nose lightly & repeat the hot water bath, rubbing & swinging. If the pups core temp is low, unless you heat them they will have real difficulty responding.
