  1. I'm with you Stoltz ! I have virtually never worn a dress or skirt in my life and only own pants. I can't imagine the discomfort and weirdness of wearing a skirt in the ring, and if it meant win or lose to a judge - then wow . Most professions now allow dress pants on a woman, I hope that dog judges from the US are modernising !! A nice pantsuit or pants / shirt /jacket is just as dressy. fifi
  2. Very good point Gillbear, a full health check also, before her behavviourist is a good idea. fifi
  3. totally agree with this, you don't want to confront her any further at this point. I hope your behaviourist can assist, and as someone who recently had to have a re-homed adult wolfhound PTS, when you are dealing with a hard wired issue and not just a shy/socialisation problem it can be a heartbreaking road. Wishing you success and a corner turned very quickly. fifi
  4. Was it Erskine park where tarps put down before setup day/time were inmpounded and only returned for a fee ? I think I remember reading something a few years ago regarding this. fifi
  5. I think a mentor is what you might need if you are new to your breed. Even if you have a lot of experience in dogs, each breed has it's own nuances that a breed afficianado would know. I also feel that an 'apprenticeship' in your breed would benefit, if you havn't been in CKCS for a long time, then I would begin with showing your girl, which has the added plus of seeing many to compare her with as well as having her assessed for type & quality. Personally I feel that breeding should come after a long learning process about your particular breed, knowing its history, lines, health and testing, showing or in some way having them honestly assessed ect..ect.... fifi
  6. And the added bonus that raw meaty bones make a nice firm stool that does the job its supposed to, stimulate / express the anal glands on the way out :D fifi
  7. I'd also be asking about his worming history, has he been regularly wormed since before & after you've had him ? fifi
  8. I'm stuggling with are you breeding for colour only ? because apart from Sweetie's structural issues, are all of them are totally chalk & cheese typewise ? fifi
  9. My oz-trail compact I don't even remember how long I've had it, but its survived storms, wind ect. But I always peg it down on the legs and bought heavy duty nylon rope & replaced the flimsy tie down string that came with it & also BIG tent stakes. fifi
  10. Only just found this. What utter heartbreak for you I would also have made the same decision. wishing you all the kindness of time to lessen the pain. fifi xxx
  11. :) Poodlemum, try doing a search using 'gazebo' in show ring forum, there have been some really extensive discussions & lots of info on this topic that might help. fifi
  12. Yes I remeber hearing that. If something unsavory got to your prize bitch she was ruined. Yes, the belief was she would throw X-breds next litters, no matter if she was mated to a purbred of her own breed.
  13. that person sort of reflects a very uninformed train of thought from many years ago (and was surprisingly prevalent even amoung top dog people) that the bitch would be 'tainted' if she mated a Xbred or another breed & was often shot. I remember as a youngster speaking to an old breeder who still though that way. Common sense...so rare is should be a superpower ! fifi
  14. Times have changed and cats need to be kept indoors or in runs. Yes, when we were kids cats were a mostly outside pet, the one you didnt need to worry about until you scraped pusspuss number four of the road and then you got freebie neighbours kitten number five.... Personally I think anyone that lets their cats roam is utterly irresponsible. My cats aren't bored and don't sit at the doors all day pining to go out. they love their sunny spots, hidey holes and zoomies. If you can't be bothered putting the work into owning an indoor cat, do the wildlife and poor car drivers a favour and don't get one.
  15. Thanks Hilary, you & others were very friendly & helpful too :) I just think if we can garner someone is genuine, we need to educate & mentor where we can. (and my little brain likes to keep things simple so I can understand  ) Not all of us are lucky enough to have had or have wonderful mentors or guidance on this rocky path. SLF, you'll find that most of the breeders here are very helpful, but sometimes wary due to being exploited and disappointed by back yard breeders. fifi edited...need more coffee....
  16. Far out, between the unwelcome and the abtruse its a wonder newbies hang in there at all SLF, if you are prog testing and you get a couple of natural matings preferably with a tie, over a few days, I'd leave it at that. But if you get only slip matings, then I'd go for a couple of fresh AI's If you have any concerns, you could always do a fresh collection of the boy and have a look at the semen quality. welcome to the breeders forum :) fifi
  17. Or even if it is main register quality, but it's going to a pet home where at time of sale it won't be for showing or breeding. You can upgrade later if things change. fifi
  18. But pewithers, not every dog in a litter should be on the main register, its not for idiot proofing, its an indicator that the pup is NOT show and therefore NOT breeding quality. Doesn't mean it isn't a quality pet and nice example of its breed. There are breeders that put everything on the main register, and that to me indicates they have little idea. fifi
  19. There was discussion of this a while back on another group, personally I think it could become an elitist or 'show royalty' mindset. first come, first served I feel. fifi
  20. Of course Aloysha, and don't those litters come into the pounds in such well cared for condition undernourished, wormy, unsocialised. I don't even want to think of the one's that are never seen And I'm not talking about a failed hunter being 'culled', just surplus pups from litters of 12. I do know some very proffesional hunters whose dogs are imaculatley kept, armoured, radio collars, trained, and treasured, sadly the cowboys outnumber them. fifi
  21. Because BYBs are known for producing sound, health-tested dogs, right? If you actually feel this site is a waste of time.. why exactly are you here? The only thing I can think of is to troll. Also.. for someone so bothered by "do gooder dog rescuers", you sure do spend a lot of time in the rescue section ;) glad you caught the full post! Me too !! of course when you look at some of the boarhunter or pig dog hunting sites, they are so full of well researched genetic gems like hybrid vigour vs the crap of a health tested line bred pedigree dog  the absence of health issues just because you threw the mates wolfhound X dane X mastiff X neo over your deerhound X greyhound X bullarab XXXXXXX  fifi
  22. you assume an awful lot ! as Mags said, show us the kennel records or photo history or these breeders who possess this secret knowledge. I can assure you my uncles, especially one old fella, knew his dogs, he also knew his dog people and I'm sure would have known via the bush telegraph what other dog fella's were doing. fifi
  23. Aaaah, the romance of having some facts & lots of fiction ! Staghound is a type, not a breed. Yes, my uncles had kangaroo dogs & staghounds they bred on from, but every now & again a deerhound or whatever sighthound X was available would be infused into the mix. They used to lose more than a few dogs to roos and hunting accidents, My uncle is still alive and he doesn't have access to these secret squirrel breeders, and he never called his dogs purebred staghounds....funnily enough !! fifi
