What Has Happened To Child Handlers Classes
Dogsfevr replied to teddywaddy's topic in General Dog Discussion
The judges should be going over the dog that is part of assessing a handlers ability to handle a dog each breed is unique with special features that should be shown off or varying techniques used to show the good points & bad points after all that is what assessing a good handler is .They don't need to go over like breed judging but a judge should put there hands over enough to see what control the child has & how they deal with a dog that may not be co operative or stands there perfectly but does nothing The problem is many people judge from the outside with no clue what the judges encounter in the ring & what some children can & can't do . Having judged Juniors for many years i see the major mistakes children make that the outside folk don't see & understand is a major bobo that you then need to assess against each child . -
Like Dancinbcs said a bull arab can be a mixture of anything & every thing these days . At one stage we would see a consistent style of BA but now they go from medium size to massive & the varying breeds certainly make the BA vary as well. The other thing of course would depend on where it was breed & how early the whole litter is taught to hunt . The other thing to consider for the pigs is you introduced it to 2 mature dogs. This time it will be a very boisterous pup V pigs so alot will also depend how the pigs react to the pup & it play methods & how much they squeal & whether that noise will be a tad too much for puppy .

Wet tail is very common in Labs & goldies, generally its takes a few days to come good, some use pain killers to help but many just let nature take its course unless dog is very unhappy

All All Breeds have to hold atleast 1 junior handler heat in the year so they may be waiting for a show with more suitable weather,i now many of the Juniors in Vic are held before the show starts as well but i think with the extremem heat policy summer day shows area bout getting it finished -

Illegal To Ride A Bike And Have Dog Run Beside On Lead

Sorta funny when the ET title requires you to bike your dog holding the leash -
Grooming books can vary depends on the country it was written & depends how you want to groom the dog. English Setters is a classic example of alot of varying grooming methods ,it comes down to your preferance & how much or little you want to do. Look at the DOL pages for the coated breeds & see if the grooming amounts is something that you would truly enjoy. Being on an acreage is doable BUT a good coat can be easily ruined if running through twigs & not being removed . Mine run an acreage but i put the extra hours to ensure the coat is never ruined that also includes nightly pee feather baths all year

Goldies shed all the time if its coming out in clumps than i would say your also not brushing enough & its building up .

I agree there is protective & then there is protective. Why tell your cocker off for beinmg merry ?? Makes no sense to discipline it for something that comes natural to the breed

From what i have seen at shows wonderful dogs but you must be the right owner. I realize this comment applies to any dog but i do believe some breeds certainly require owners whose dedication to training, socializing & establishing good rules is more required in some breeds than others & what you allow one breed to get away with could be your sorst nightmare with another .

The backyard is usually the biggest issue. Check for toxic plants,no snail bait etc etc

Pet Insurance And Vaccinations

Some may not cover you if you do not vaccinate,Some may not cover titre . This is something you may need to query -
The cocker, english setter & yorkie will require dedicated coat work . The cocker & ES will need clipping, trimming, hand stripping & maintenance baths weekly especially the ES to keep it white . Both lovley dogs to show but maintaining show coats can be time consuming plus the added expense of clippers, blades, dryers ,scissors etc etc . Obviously smooth coats are simple wash & wear & off you go also applying to your backyard . So what it comes down to is how much coat work you are prpepared to do in between shows
