  1. Hi, sorry I know this was from a few pages ago, but I went to South Street vet a couple of weeks ago to sign up for their puppy classes. They seem friendly. Don't go to Riseley in Applecross - I have been there twice for my puppy now and the receptionist is very rude. The vet is great with dogs but he seems to have bit of an elitist streak (he had the nerve to call country people 'rednecks' (I'm from the SW, ha ha.) , Ian has to be one of the best vets in WA & we send many people there who have no issues at all. never ever had one of there staff be rude there . Ian is very much country person ,Don i haven't dealt with
  2. There is no evidence to suggest adding water reduces risk of bloat - in fact research seems to suggest that soaking the kibble actually increases the risk - particularly when the kibble contains citric acid. yep very true plus over soaking can increase fermenting
  3. Just wondering if all other countries recognize and publish all titles gained in Aust, and do these titles appear on the dogs “new” pedigree papers when issued. America doesn't reconise titles outside of the US. If i sent my Grand CH dog to the US it goes over as a non titled dog i do not now about dog sport titles but imagine it would be the same
  4. I see it this way the same fundamentals of owning dogs applies whether it be a Chi to a Great Dane. All dogs need leadership/all dogs need training so there really isn't anything special that owning a dog should be for first time or second time dog owners. You fail to give the basic fundamentals then you fail the dog. The only real difference is understanding each dogs unique traits & deciding which ones best suit & you can apply for the next 15 yrs. We run kennels & a grooming salon,we see many first time owners from the the big to the small from Pitbull to poodle . Yes there are people who have failed in some ways but i can tell you the biggest failure is simply by not using common sense & ready to done the Flame suit there being so many books out there now about how you should raise a dog & people truly not understanding that what a book says doesn't mean it is right . Owning dogs in the last 10 yrs is like parenthood, all these new ways of raising & alot of input from experts claiming it should be this way not that way .it has become very confusing & you see it in dog owners who often end up so frustrated that don't see the simple things. Owning & raising a dog isn't as hard as many make out & with good simple common sense & honesty in what your capabilities are & what time your prepared to put in there is a right dog for everyone & that does include breeds that some people see as "not suitable" In the years past we use to board pitbulls, nearly all where first time owners & these dogs where wonderful animals, well trained/loyal a joy to look after. One of the weirdest combo's we have boarded was an Akita/shar pei cross, this would make most people think but this dog again was a joy to board ,delightful manner.s ,. The problem is some people simply believe they have the right to own some breeds & there will always be a supplier for those people. As an example & this isn't a generalization to all in this fielded but the worse clients we have for grooming with matted/unbrushed dogs are Hairdressers & why?? I guess one could ask what breeds are the best suited for first time dogs owners & why??
  5. I believe any breed can be suitable for a first time dog owner providing both parties are fully aware of the breed in question & it's requirements. Previous dog experience doesn't always equate to being a better owner or better prepared .
  6. Personally i don't think the dogs are going to suffer missing there midday walk. I would be more inclined to see how they settle than let some strangers enter the property. Nearly all the springers i now are happy to be lazy or active happy to adapt to what that day brings
  7. What make's you think you have made the wrong choice?? Why did you pick this breeder? What question's did you ask about there breeding/showing/health etc etc?? What in your opinion made you think this breeder was better than other's you contacted?? How supportive are they with you showing??What makes them believe the pup you wil be getting is a showing promise for the ring compared to other's?? Are they giving you advice on preparing the dog for the ring & how to show?? There are so many more question's that could be asked but of the above do you feel you are happy with you now/have discussed?? Every breeder is different, some can be very down to earth , some feel that fluffying it make's them better. There is no right or wrong but all the basic fundamental/care/effort should be there . If you have used you head with making decisions & made yourself a smart purchaser in understanding the breed/standard etc then you will now whether you have made the right choice. Only you now the dealings you have had & the knowledge you have gained from the talks you have had with the breeder with your plans with this pup. Allour's are from reg breeder who where well researched
  8. Not crazy at all. You have brought home a new baby & like a human baby they are work. Personally all new pups here start off in the bedroom & then with time move to the area we want. They sleep in there crate & no drama's at all moving them to the preferred sleeping area. The hot water bottle & clock are fine but in reality the door is shut,it is dark & no one around. Some pups are total gems when they come home some just need some extra time & requirements to settle quicker & with confidence. Whilst i am not a believer of fussing & am also not a believer of letting a pup get distressed so there is a middle line we use for each individual pup & the stage it is at here
  9. When we use to travel over we wrote to the committee & had writtem approval to take our dogs that weren't being shown that day. We never had an issue & they where able to cater for our needs. We where also very appreciative & made sure not to display the fact. Whilst they don't always check people do notice
  10. No list will guarantee "ethical" even the names from dogsNSW. It is up to puppy buyers to buy with there heads, research & ask questions.Make themselves a smart buyer
  11. The not picking up option is very common & sadly also affects "boarding Kennels" where owners dump there dogs never to return.
  12. I had planned to do the ET this year & the dog was fit & bike ready but the days didn.t match & he will be to old to do it now. It is seriously easy once both are working as partners. Luckily for me bike riding is part of my guys fitness routine & rabbits/roos & the likes are normal distractions. I will now work on my other dog in the next few years to ET title
  13. If its a land survey of size they actually wouldn't need to visit they could use near map or most likely have details from the flight survey plane
  14. Tracy is away at present. Dennis & Kevin still work we had Kevin out yesterday
  15. The main reason normally for non approval is neighbors. Be careful if you try & hide the dog I would firstly ask for a meeting discussing what has happened. Do you have any paperwork where it states a property inspection must take place ?? When you applied did you inform them of the old dogs issues??
  16. Not from South Africa, the best option is the one they are doing where the dog has a home life. They could certainly bring it in to Oz but it will serve all those months in quarantine. Many who have opted the long term quarantine way have said never again. We have boarded a number of dogs who have done the 9 month process I have friends who did the same option except theres went to the US for the residency then the 30 days
  17. Also remember aiming high to quickly when the pup isn't ready teaches them that bad manners get rewarded. You have to ask yourself what did the pup learn from his time at the markets?? He could act crazy & he didn't listen to you so you had no control. You need to take small steps where the pup will listen to you . I can appreciate you didn't like the mans comments but as a dog owner i am very careful to appreciate that when in public not everyone is a dog person nor appreciates what my dog does in the same way maybe more so because i show my dogs & have to deal with all manner of public Pups need to be socialized but remember the general public can be a very tricky place to do this & you will have to deal with all sorts of comments & accept that .
  18. Both dogs require regular brushing but the cockers need regular clipping. Cavs shed hair like no tomorrow cockers not as much. People also need to remember Cavs are sporting spaniels & as such still have that gundog nature in them
  19. pointers more laid back easier to live with ,GSP more needy & can be very vocal & stress. This has nothing to do with ownership either ,GSP are just simply either easy to live with or not.The exact same as Weis. I have shown both breeds & boarded both breeds & the pointers just go with the flow, easy to please.the GSP are certainly easy to handle but harder to board. I do believe whilst both breeds are very social they are also more people driven for company & love there owners attention. Both breeds thrive at agility/obedience of which you can also involve your other dog. Not every gundog breed is born to work.
  20. That has been the way for years & they also swap your dogs around,Our guys played musical runs. The damage done though was enough for the whole system to change. Although with South Africa they spend way more time in quarantine before even leaving the country & unless you ship them of to a same level country to do residency & then only 30 days.
  21. Not mean.originally there where less runs(2 big ones plus the 2 indoor ones) & it was first in best dressed,if you sat there for 1/2 hrs you could & everyone else missed out. That certainly wasn't fair & many people where very selfish about not sharing & this was when you could visit every day am/pm. Now it is based on bookings whether it be the yard/grooming room & everyone has there time frame & when to turn up. Byford is a damp area BUT the residents have also complained for so many years that it has also created issues up there since it moved from Bicton. I agree the runs should be scraped & its very easy to do but the girls have there set ways up there. Once the equine flu hit that changed everything in the quaratine ranks
