  1. Not from South Africa, the best option is the one they are doing where the dog has a home life. They could certainly bring it in to Oz but it will serve all those months in quarantine. Many who have opted the long term quarantine way have said never again. We have boarded a number of dogs who have done the 9 month process I have friends who did the same option except theres went to the US for the residency then the 30 days
  2. Also remember aiming high to quickly when the pup isn't ready teaches them that bad manners get rewarded. You have to ask yourself what did the pup learn from his time at the markets?? He could act crazy & he didn't listen to you so you had no control. You need to take small steps where the pup will listen to you . I can appreciate you didn't like the mans comments but as a dog owner i am very careful to appreciate that when in public not everyone is a dog person nor appreciates what my dog does in the same way maybe more so because i show my dogs & have to deal with all manner of public Pups need to be socialized but remember the general public can be a very tricky place to do this & you will have to deal with all sorts of comments & accept that .
  3. Both dogs require regular brushing but the cockers need regular clipping. Cavs shed hair like no tomorrow cockers not as much. People also need to remember Cavs are sporting spaniels & as such still have that gundog nature in them
  4. pointers more laid back easier to live with ,GSP more needy & can be very vocal & stress. This has nothing to do with ownership either ,GSP are just simply either easy to live with or not.The exact same as Weis. I have shown both breeds & boarded both breeds & the pointers just go with the flow, easy to please.the GSP are certainly easy to handle but harder to board. I do believe whilst both breeds are very social they are also more people driven for company & love there owners attention. Both breeds thrive at agility/obedience of which you can also involve your other dog. Not every gundog breed is born to work.
  5. That has been the way for years & they also swap your dogs around,Our guys played musical runs. The damage done though was enough for the whole system to change. Although with South Africa they spend way more time in quarantine before even leaving the country & unless you ship them of to a same level country to do residency & then only 30 days.
  6. Not mean.originally there where less runs(2 big ones plus the 2 indoor ones) & it was first in best dressed,if you sat there for 1/2 hrs you could & everyone else missed out. That certainly wasn't fair & many people where very selfish about not sharing & this was when you could visit every day am/pm. Now it is based on bookings whether it be the yard/grooming room & everyone has there time frame & when to turn up. Byford is a damp area BUT the residents have also complained for so many years that it has also created issues up there since it moved from Bicton. I agree the runs should be scraped & its very easy to do but the girls have there set ways up there. Once the equine flu hit that changed everything in the quaratine ranks
  7. The quarantine station was sold a few years back by a group who own Cohuna park i believe. It is currently being run on a lease basis & could close leaving only Mel & Sydney but because it has been so full especially with the South African dogs it is still operating. The kennel set up it self isnt that bad except by choice the runs outside being covered would be way more logical. When our dog did 63 days she came from winter to 40 degrees here so we took our own shade cloth up & covered her run. The kennels do have a sleeping area in a nook BUT with no roof on the outside area then does come in easily BUT many boarding kennels are far worse than quarantine You are actually lucky now in that you can use the hydrobath & dryers. The first few dogs i had to bath up there was on the floor with an old rubber attachment on the tape, the table was a giant wooden table & a hand dryer . They certainly didn't scrap the runs when our dog was in,at that stage long termers could be visited in the morning plus the pm slot daily & we would go up & scrap our dogs run ourselves. They also didn't own a pooper scooper & used a small coal style shovel to pick up & a bag The last dog i visited up there we groomed etc etc & you got very creative in the time frame & many hands made it easier . There was talk of quarantine going private but who knows. Quarantine isn't about home environment as it needs to be cleaned etc etc & the set up is just like a kennel the only difference is being let out daily although the outside runs leave alot to be desired especially if you have a coated dog. Yes you could whinge but it isnt that bad & at present i would sooner be able to visit my dog here than in the east
  8. The dog shop sells them ,there not cheap for a staffy size & as already said the bigger they are the more room they take & are a pain in the bum to separate every time they go in the car. I have vari, wire & soft crate but i just use a fold up trolley from Big W to cart them around ,so easy . The larger vari style crates are just as awkward to carry, they may be lighter BUT there not an easy object to carry about. I only use the vari for flying,i find they have less room at the bottom & unless you have good bedding many have the bumps at the bottom which aren't comfy to sleep on. They certainly can get hotter & not all dogs like to be in them

  10. They actually fail to tell the whole story behind this petition so be careful what you sign & support.Another shonky way of the RSPCA.
  11. I can guarantee you some of the Dobes where shown on chains. Many obedience clubs have them banned & thats a whole different story. Many chains though these days are so discreet you wouldnt tell straight away.many use snake chains or the fine chain especially the ones in black. Para chord leads are very popular & are the exact same as chains except cord. I show one on a chain & one on a leather chain style lead
  12. Im sure it applies to all states but many WA breeders have been receiving similiar style emails of varying 'WEIRDNESS" We have received quite a few in chinese translation or no address known.
  13. Slow feeder bowls or just add tennis balls. Do you stand by & watch him eat or walk away?? You could also raise the food bowl so he has to reach up instead of chasing the bowl.we find this works well for piggy eaters. I wouldn't add anything to the food . What are you feeding?? Has he always throwm up or is something new??
  14. Given you have paid money i would expect more contact & more info regarding where you stand If you hadn.t paid any money & your name was on a list then contact would be whensomething suitable arrives. We never do deposits. What does you receipt say regarding your deposit?? How many other people have also paid a deposit?? It could be a case of too many deposits & not enough pups but either way you deserve an up date on something you have paid for
  15. Mulch is a classic source of skin issues .The spores it self can cause all sorts of nasties. Not heard of parvo but seen plenty of dogs who have had skin issues with mulch around, this also applied to humans with asthma/allergy issues again due to the spores
  16. We have from Belguim & used an agent over there.I can't remember the name though but we got our contacts via the GSD people
  17. Yep all dogs are called irrespective,if you don't answer your call you will be scratched. They have to call unless handed the exhibit card prior to judging starting
  18. If your really worried you can add a dash of milk. My showdogs can be funny at shows so i will add some milk
  19. Anyone who phones here selling raffle tickets is told to send the info sheet out where we will fill in our details & return. Very easy to weed out the legit & non legit tjis way. Many never send there stuff out
  20. I think you need to understand one thing,Minis are people dogs, they like attention BUT its up to you to train when its appropriate & when it isn't. We have 15 minis & all seek attention in varying levels some more so than others,we are home all day & have a property. The breed loves to people please ,they love there human time but there is a time & place for every thing & they are taught independence & ability to enjoy there time without us. This sounds like a game that you have created & accepted. If you are chasing then you have set the rules of it being acceptable. It is obviously happening often for it to be an issue so you need to address the items being taken & place them away & not make it into a game. Dogs are like toddler,s they dont now what is right or wrong they just understand the reward/response,your response chase & that is the reward. Its fun . Then you need to address your leadership skills & respect. Our dogs are very precious to us & enjoy all aspects of being house dogs BUT they are dogs, ours never do what yours are doing . If you read some of your recent topics it seems either you misunderstanding what your dog wants or this dog is ruling the house & your not setting any boundaries, either way i wouldn't bring another pup into the equation until you have sorted out the issues that you are having now
