  1. From a showdog perspective, i have loaned my dogs to handlers who had no clue how to get them to work, these are well trained dogs that any dummy should be able to deal with BUT some people dont have good handling skills no matter how well trained the dog is. What people need to understand is a dog with the right trainer/handler can be easily trained due to a simple mutual respect for each other ,it can then go back to the other party & be a big fail as the dog is smart enough to outsmart there owners. Good in theory & yes if the right trainer is there & above all the owners are fully aware that a trained dog doent mean it will still work for them ,often people reach this point because they either haven't done any work or they wont accept there handling skills have a big part to play in the dogs lack of manners or behaviour . A dog in the end is only as good as it handler & that may mean still dealing with a difficult dog but knowing how to read the signs & working with it
  2. I show big dogs & do alot of running. My current pair of show shoes are homey peds, I also have flat feet so quality for me is a must & these make all that show day standing/running a pleasure. I prefer no laces/velcro (the velcro dont fit my feet so i end up with stacks of left over stuff flapping about, yes you could get it shortened but would prefer to just get shoes that fit well first go) Many do wear the Sketchers but they dont fit my skinny feet well
  3. I would be trying Bowen therapy. I have a dog with bad arthritis & another issue & There are days he can hardly walk , we do monthly bowen which is a godsend for all his other muscles. Sore muscles are just as painful & he would be using his over time. We are luckythe cartrophen weekly work & he is on Rosehip tablets but i find in his case the Bowen is the main factor in keeping hi healthy & active
  4. Its your daughters battle ,she obviously accepts she is with a control freak & i gather picking the type of dogs isnt the only thing she doesnt get her way or her wants respected .
  5. How many australian judges do the same ?? I can certainly list plenty ,it isnt an overseas special thing
  6. My guys dont eat beds so i have one of the $180 clark rubber mattress that we have covered & works a treat. I did say if i had to buy a bed for my big guys i would buy a toddlers bed
  7. I suggest as you live in Melbourne going to watch the Am Staff champ this weekend or the terrier club show where a good number of Am Staffs will be in attendance & you can see the show side aspect as well
  8. If this was the case i could report the greater majority of our clients ,this is a daily occurrence for me & many are spoilt house dogs. So i gather the info is 3 rd hand form someone else?? So how do you now they treat themselves & never go to a vet??
  9. A barium meal would have shown a blockage or not but you must add a certain bran for it to work successfully & show a bloackage, many vets dont add the special ingredient & it passes straight through. One of our old vets did this method & it saved one of our old girls from surgery & she could be monitored. Obviously if it hadnt past she would have needed surgery but we preferred the less invasive option first
  10. The Canadian isnt coming ,the replacement judge hasnt been advised yet
  11. Just curious what tests did they do before opening him up?? Did the do a barium meal test first or just proceed with surgery??
  12. I gather as you sold sai dog as pet you also had a spay aspect to your contract or a verbal one. What i would first dog is go see the dog & assess whether it is worth being upgraded, if you feel it is then inform them that if you upgrade the dog will go into joint names for show/breeding reasons but is still there dog. If they havent attended shows ask them to head down to some your at & see how keen they are
  13. given how standards vary worldwide it wouldnt bother me,many people dont often realize that some internationals they show under arent qualified in ther own country award CC to every breed ,they need to meet a set percentage ie 85% (could be less)& can do the whole grp.this %was lower a few years back' many breeds often arent reconized & in the US/UK are shown on the special register until upgraded which is many breeds we consider normal hereAmerican English Coonhound Cane Corso Cesky Terrier Entlebucher Mountain Dog Finnish Lapphund American English Coonhound Cane Corso Cesky Terrier Entlebucher Mountain Dog Finnish Lapphund Icelandic Sheepdog Leonberger Norwegian Lundehund Russell Terrier Treeing Walker Coonhound Icelandic Sheepdog Leonberger Norwegian Lundehund Russell Terrier Treeing Walker Coonhound Xoloitzcuintli The above is the US breeds
  14. He shouldnt do but having persoanl experience with Murdoch many moons ago i can imagine. Not a fan of Murdoch at all but that is my issue & i wont go into detail. There are plenty of options out there for offer after hrs other than Murdoch Personally i wouldnt take a dead dog to Murdoch after a few experiences & using there after hrs with clients who insisted they go there .Luckily our vet does after hr emergencies. Another choice is PVE in Ossie Park 24 hrs weekend mon/fri 6pm/8am Specialist centre during the day ie skin/heart/cancer etc etc Hoping Lincoln a quick recovery
  15. It would then depend on the percentage of working dogs she can award CC to as to whether she could do group or only breed show or semi grp/breed shows
  16. What breeds/groups can they judge
  17. Great dogs but they are hounds & come with the hound character.aslo if people aren't prepared to brush forget it. They can be diggers . Great breed for the right owners
  18. schnauzers are there own breed ,no intermixing of sizes. Dachshunds especially std longs can produce smooth/longs especially if heavily breed for US based dogs where interbreeding the coats is allowed. I believe they are registered as there coat type
  19. have you had the up vet checked?? What are you using to supplement, how are the pups toilet habits?? Is the mum inclined to pay no attention to it? Without the issue you now does the pup act the same way as the others or is it different .head bobbling etc etc.
  20. I have breeds well known for being over excitable & when ever i train for the show ring I always hype them until there over the top & then i train them to respond during this phase & never ever had an issue in gaining control asap. They learn very quickly it isnt a game & that there reward is for doing what is asked . People always train when the dog is listening but i prefer to work with the exuberance phase & add it into the dogs enjoyment & reward
  21. Our breed is highly predisposed to this issue & i would feed chicken for ohow ever long until the issue had settled more. The alternative isnt a pretty one & it seems you have been lucky thus far, We had 1 dog have a full blown attack & was very lucky to survive but we never feed any of the prescribed foods but made a very bland home made diet until such a time her normal diet could be re introduced. Her attack was due to eating a few kilos of mince when it fell off a bench top. Diet also means removing any treats like pigs ears, schmackos etc etc Some will do the lentil regime or what ever works for that said dog
  22. Im my experience those who have been duped should have seen the signs . Many arent prepared to wait for the right breeder nor ask very simple questions. Many people also dont make themselves smart purchasers, there is so much basic groundwork people can do but many seem not too & then end up in a pickle, There is so much info on the net & the likes that any person wishing to buy a set breed can go armed with many questions & also make themselves that breed savvy once they have hit the wishing tom purchase stage. As for passing on previous puppy owners details that is one thing we would never ever do,there privacy is something that should be respected & unless you have something in your contract given people the option to be used in such a manner it isnt a breeders right to hand out those details
  23. Don't 1. Buy a puppy over the internet, newspaper advertisement or from a pet shop 2. Buy a puppy without first meeting the breeder and visiting its place of birth 3. Impulse buy - owning a dog is a huge responsibility and should be the result of careful planning and consideration 4. Discriminate against crossbreeds or mixed breed dogs - they also make great pets and can be bred responsibly Take note of point 4 of there site on how to buy a dog ,so how do they plan to promote this yet say that . yet another money makker for those who have no idea of the two faced side
