  1. Showdog, I completely understand what you are saying - perhaps you haven't been reading my posts clearly? I have said that we will be asking for a referral to a specialist, but that we are going to wait for the DNA test results to come back in first. I'm sure it will be beneficial to have the results before seeing the specialist, particularly if they come back saying she has hereditary cataracts. My question to nickojoy was purely a question as to whether or not his vet did pick it up or not. I have read your posts correctly BUT i wouldnt be waiting for DNA results because cloudy eyes can be so many other things & reality is dealing with eyes is all about getting attention quickly. You could wait for the results to come back & they are clear & then you will be scrambling to make an appointment which can sometimes be a long wait . That time frame of waiting could make or break eye sight. Having dealt with a number of dogs with varying eye issues i now that waiting isnt the best option. But you must do what your happy with . The eye specialist wont care about the DNA results because they are accessing the issue infront of them not the piece of paper
  2. All of my breeders over the years have always had the papers ready when collecting the puppy, 8 pure breed dogs in total and again 6 weeks ago with our new puppy. Seems that some breeders can manage to supply papers on collection without a problem Didnt answer my questions?? Just because you breeder register early doesnt mean they get it right?? What ratio do there pups go on main/limited?? . I could register early BUT i prefer to place the pups on the correct register .If your breeders can access very early who is show/pet & the likes great they must have some real superstars in the show ring?? I have owned from others now 18 dogs & never got the papers on the day & that is over a 25 yr period & from breeders who i admire & love there ethics.
  3. Same here.never had an issue or query either. Black Bronson how many litters have you breed, how many pups have you evaluated between the above ages,at birth which pups would you put on mains/limited?? In breeds that arent born with the colour what colour would you list on the papers at this early age?? Are you able to tell which ones have faults ,bad mouths, poor movement?? Please inform us
  4. Did you have to see a specialist to work out what the problem was or did your vet pick it up? How did you know something was wrong? I think you need to understand that a vet can see signs that can lead to certain eye conditions but your normal vet can not give you a defiant answer to any eye condition as they do not have the qualifications or the equipment that is required to diagnosis these conditions & any secondary condition that can be associated.
  5. Depends on what exactly your drying & the end result. I have both kinds & they are used for difference jobs. Also consider the pressure of the dryers & the coats in question. For me some are too strong & blow the coat dry to quickly .others arent powerful enough ,some are to hot etc etc
  6. Yep how much do you give, how much exercise does the dog get, what sort of daily treats
  7. Unless your vet is a specialist she cannot say it does/doesnt have dry eye as this is tested by drops & a pressure stick. Sorry but i wouldnt be waiting to see what happens irrespective of the DNA test. But each to there own. Having had dogs with catarcats,PRA,glaucome i now the importance of keeping on top of things in young dogs
  8. Our oldies, get (if co operative) nice warm bed,we use vet bed alot which is great in the cool weather, hot water bottles/wheat bags or the snuggle disc(which ever takes your fancy). We do have coats which some like/ hate . We find the main thing is just having a nice cosy spot & in our house the fav spot is the crate covered over
  9. Yep ,of all the breeds i own/ed i reckon each one has been different .very confusing . But as you now of to the eye doctor :D
  10. You need to go see an eye specialist & i wouldnt be waiting for the DNA test to come back. Cloudy eyes can be created by many things not just HC & until correctly diagnosed you will have no idea. Medications, poor diet, diabetes, cushings disease & the list goes on can all be associated with eye sight issues BUT only a specialist will be able to confirm . Was her eyes ever checked before given clomicalm It seems many vets hand this drug out without looking at all aspects whether that be eye sight/hearing, its always labelled as fears/anxiety. You need to see a specialized & see what it is & then look at all options because the cataract removal surgery doesnt always work & i do now of more failures than good personally but that is just a small drop in the ocean. If she has cataracts you need to ensure her eye pressure is correct which a specialized will check ,your normal vet can not do this. If i remember correctly the main ingredient in Clomicalm can cause dry eye or be a pre cursor to Glaucoma (someone may now more )
  11. Dogs are no different than people & often people expect to much without thinking about the older dog in question. In our house it works both ways, are oldies have an oldie area, whilst they are social there comes a time where they dont want to be annoyed, overwhelmed by a young pup. Our young pups also arent allowed to torment the oldies. Both parties have rules, the pups MUST learn there is a time & a place BUT above all you need to read the other dogs body language. It sounds like it gave plenty of warning signs that werent listened too to by the humans & the oldie has gone to the next level. people need to understand that warnings signs are given for a reason & you need to learn to back off & do things slow & steady & in small doses. How old is the oldie? Does it have any medical issues??
  12. If there ears sat correctly as a baby they should settle,if they havent been good all along like Becks ha said they will stand. The most important advice i can give is Minis are notorious for retaining baby teeth ,so make sure her baby teeth are falling out & if they arent budging get them removed. This can greatly affect ears . Also dont rub them upwards & encourage the muscle to strengthen. If your dog has alot of american lines we do find them more predisposed to standing upwards . Has her ears been clipped & plucked correctly??
  13. Well for starters you sill charging cheaply. Yes your helping the dog but your not making it easier or realistic for them, dont get used . We never clip wet & our blades never go blunt after although the power of our clippers makes life easier. We occasional use the skip tooth but arent a afan of them. What blades are you using?? What clippers??
  14. feed time here is anywhere between 8am/6pm. They go through doors first ,they s;eep on my bed,sit on the couch & enkoy all aspects of our home BUT they are dogs first & foremost & treated as such .In return we have well rounded loving dogs who are a joy to own & take out. I truly believe in the last 10 years owning a dog has become like the new parentingg fads & common sense has gone out the door & all these new fads have appeared with total confusions. Yes there are some great basic methods out there but it has really got to a stage that simple & successful works very well
  15. The only clinics here that offer the packages are also well known for everything being made into packages,it wasnt until certain clinics where brought out did this programmes start . Like buying a "wellness" programme or the next programme. Being in dogs for 25 years these things didnt exist ,vets spoke to you like a human being not a marketing tool. We have had alot of dogs spayed & had no issues. The funny thing was the clinics that offer the above services also dont apply then to spaying,it is also X rays & the list goes on. We see prices from clients vary from $150 up to $900 for spaying which is daylight robbery especially when there is no issue. The vet near us has prices for various ages, pre season/had season.no litter/had litter they also offer these packages . We have never had issues with understanding what was needed & required because we have been lucky to have vets who speak yo us BUT we also ask questions . Reality is many vets have become so commercialized it quite sad
  16. Yep very true, also the same in Labs ,i think its the blacks who are more predisposed.it does also affect a few other breeds but Rottis seem to cope it the most
  17. This is an old topic from months ago when ABC123 was doing her research and it just got bumped to the first page from a new post. Argh that explains things, couldnt be bothered reading the date posts
  18. Do they have any breeds they fancy?/It is often easier to get more of an idea if there are some breeds they like . Obviously pet & rabbit friendly will solely rely on them doing the training. We have had dogs that could play with our guinea pigs & others who owuld have killed them within minutes given a chance even though trained . So they need to decide what the rabbit living arrangements will be & how much they wish to change its routine to accomadate a dog that need sto be trained to pay no attention or accept it didnt work & have bunny safe.
  19. So are you looking at having 3 pups together because i thought you had just got a cocker baby?? or didnt that work out
  20. My first reaction would be to say even if daughter wants the dog there is no guarantee it will do what she wants & if it doesnt will she still be happy ?? If it decides to prefer her brother over her how will she deal with that?? I was under the impression Shibas shed?? Keeshonds can be easy coat wise if the people who are owning it are committed to regular brushing. I would gather you now your daughter best on how much brushing/walking & training she would seriously do. Basenjis also shed . Breeds considered more suitable are Poodles lagottos portuguese watre dogs Bedlingtons Lowchen Kerry Blue Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Shih Tzus Lhaso Havanese Schnauzers Although some people can react to the above breeds but not all.
  21. Couldnt the same be said about the reason a friend is doing the contacting ?? It works both ways. There is nothing worse having a convo with the "friend" & then when the people call its the opposite they want or not what the friend said, have been there done that so often. Or them saying when my friend phoned they said this/that & its wrong,it can often end up very confusing. I have no issues if someone phoned & said a friend is looking for this breed & i have passed there name on but then again if i have no idea who the breeder friend is contacting me on there behalf then it really has no more baring on the outcome. I would sooner have a nervous person contact where we can a feel for each other & can get that instant feeling .
  22. I take it those people didn't get a puppy or were spoken to further? Weren't sold a puppy. When people phone they are told straight about our dogs not sold for breeding. We have a handful sold to show home or dog sport homes on main . Those in show homes have been a mixture of experienced & learners but given our breed is hard work to prepare many are put off once they see what they will have to do. We wont sell on main just in case they want to show because the specialized coat means it has to be done correctly from day 1 & generally we have a very high rate of BYB/DD breeders wanting pups & alot of exporters trying to buy pup/litters.The pitfall of a popular breed. We groom alot of our breed & those who wanted main papers have brought from QLD & generally 2 kennels who sell everything on main/to breed & at mega $$$ for one colour ,as that colour isnt strongely breed it changes so what they have paid for is a lemon colour wise. We groom alot of these dogs & the people try & pick our brains but as they are all explained from our intitial phone contact that breeding .colours & the likes isnt so simple,They dont do there homework but just want. one of these kennels has sold 3 here to be shown, not one has & they all have 4 inch cowlicks down there neck . We will support anyone who is genuine & some breeds have it easier with less popularity but not us,the phone never stops & we get alot of nutters who want them Just read the sunday paper each weekend for the horrid crosses now seen & most of those dogs are QLD breeding crossed to god nows what here I will add we are never rude to these people but we dont go into detail if what they want we cant supply. I have been very lucky to co own, lease & simply be given some wonderful dogs to show so i totally appreciate what chances people have given me but i also now that i proved myself to these people & have had the favour returned with life long friendships & opportunity's many could only dream off.
  23. Ours are told in the very first phone call or email. They are also told they are sold on spay contract & at what age THEY must be done & the spay refund aspect If we have any qualms we will start spaying prior to them leaving. We dont register our pups until they have left & we are happy with who is main/limited & all the final aspects are sorted. One thing every breeder is very well aware of of besides BYB /puppy farms in certain breeds are also the shonky export dealers who send charming families around to try a get a main pup & then it leaves the country before you now it . we have a 100% spay success rate & the only ones who didnt like our agreements where those who wanted papers to breed
  24. We dont like it. We get people who do phone on behalf of **** & to be honest we simply say could you please get them to phone us & we normally ask why they arent phoning because like Aziah we wonder why & at this stage havent had a reason given that was really good. Your friends will have to deal with the breeders during purchase so the more leg work they do now the more responsibility they must take & be involved & ask questions.
