I agree with others you have only contacted a small handful of breeders . As for going oversea's depends how much you wish to spend on a pet pup?? As you say your talking to a lady in the US.The dog couldn't come out till atleast 9 mths i think it is(maybe 6 mths) to meet testing requirements. The dog will then be a hefty puppy so shipping expenses will be top end . Are you happy to get a dog that age?? Price wise i would look around $9/10000 if not more

Dogs born with deformed tails can be docked. Nothing sinister nor would i just presume because it,s docked it was breeder being "naughty". If you wanted to now that bad then next time go ask

Bel, you sure do get around. Saw your great results at the Darwin Royal. I'm so envious, would love to take Bohdi interstate to show. Can you tell me what you take at a minimum to have your Shih tzus ready for a royal when you are not at home. If your talking about show gear you take what is normal. Even when i fly my same gear goes with me

How big is her play pen?? Puppies do start to get fed up with there puppy pens after awhile & will turn things upside down because it is fun & amusing,

Open shows are common in some states . new rules came in about clubs having to hold them so i think in Vic & NSW except for breed clubs they hardly exist any more. Open shows are shows where trainee judges judge,You win the same awards as a champ show except you don't gain any points towards your champ title. In WA they also still have the occasional Restricted parade where non titled dog can not compete. In WA for example people use open shows as training for young stock,ideal show set up for new exhibitors as the numbers are smaller & easier to follow the show procedure

I now a breeder who also had it laid & had 2 litters with massive health issues . There was an article in the paper regarding false lawn & making sure you research & pick carefully especially where it was made

Misleading no as it it did win BIS . For me personally i have always made sure champ v open show results where clearly advertised as such because for me there is a difference & i only advertise champ wins never open show . I now plenty that do advertise 30 BIS wins & half would be open show or the biggest BIS winning what ever & again including BIS at open shows but there not misleading but i prefer my dogs successes for advertising to be purely champ show Each to there own though & as long as it did win that award then they can advertise as they please

Pacing is often referred to as the lazy mans walk. Whilst acceptable in some breeds it isn't desired & can be a pain to get a dog out of that movement. I bike my guys because they will pace unless i do a jog due to there gait & found when i walked them & they paced & they actually ended up very muscle sore compared to when there biked & in a nice balanced gait. You see alot of dogs at shows pacing but many owners have no clue there doing it so a habit forms,it is easy to feel it down the lead . I wouldn,t be encouraging it

x2 Totally agree with this & it is one of the very frustrating aspects of being a breeder when you send them home with a diet sheet that they have been doing well on & they go to there new home & it is changed so quickly . My i ask was the diet sheet designed through the ages or a starter one & then did it say add food gradually?? Most breeders recommend the diet is maintained until pup has settled & then slowly adding new foods so the tummy is able to cope with change. You have to appreciate if your pup had the runs you would most likely phone the breeder straight away for advice or with your concerns Djubre maybe you could suggest a diet for a Shih tzu??

No one has been negative at all & i don't see why anyone should say well done of you go & breed & i am sure the OP also doesn't want that ?? They have asked a question it has been answered The cavie breeders with great ethics have gone to alot of expense to ensure there breeding stock is clear & weeding out the good & the bad. I applaud anyone who wishes to strive for that BUT they also must realize that there are breeder's already out there doing exactly that SM isn't as common as it is made out to be & many vets have no clue how to diagnosis it & the only way a correct diagnosis is via MRI After the BBC doco the SM issue went crazy with people heading to the vets claiming there dogs had it when they didn't. When the initial testing started in NSW i now a number of breeders started the ball rolling at enormous expense. The cost has come down slightly but it is still a very expensive exercise to test stock but they are slowly getting there. If you wish to breed & weed out SM then the only way people are made aware of the lines with issues is to have them on the database so your friend if they have the dogs pedigree's should contact the club . The breeder may have already done & they certainly should have done it

SM - Syringomyelia That's what i thought .(re the other condition) kchogan the people you now with it did they have the MRI to confirm & send there breeding to the cavie club database?? Although i find it odd you mention SM but not heart as your main reason ??

If the dog was sent to you for show only & no transactions etc etc & the fact the breeder is the one who has obviously dealt with seeking new owners i would send the paperwork back to the breeder for them to do as they wish with.

Remember one thing these reputable breeders who have had issues are also striving very hard to stamp the issue out & this is after years of experience & understanding pedigrees. If you think by being a breeder you wont ever breed an issue you may be in a shock & a good breeder is one that also is aware there not immune to breeding an issue despite the best of efforts,testing & planning. what is sm?? I now MV is a massive issue & they are mow testing for another issues that is extremely rare in Australia but not aware of the abbreviation of SM

Pei pei i would also hope you learnt enough to also realize that BARF isn't the bee all end all too. Education works both ways & it isn't about brainwashing but appreciating that one size doesn't fit all. Why would someone feed BAR or similiar if it doesn't work?? Not sure if you have been to a dog show & what you think of the dogs there all feed that crap food?? Mine are feed crap food but i am more than happy with there health,coat condition & longevity :D

not only that but how on earth do they monitor what a dog is fed? seems to me that its not a good idea to ask for something that cant be enforced We groom/board alot of our pups & we can tell very easy those who have changed there diets & for the worse. The last phone call we had from a previous puppy owner was to tell us there 5yr old had passed away from pancreatitis which our breed is highly pre disposed too & as such the diet suggested is for the welfare of the dog When asked what they feed was an moment,Sadly the dog didn't stand a chance & in our case we where very lucky the vet they used told these people each visit to address the diet /phone the breeder or follow there suggested chart but they decided to do there own thing.They dog in there words was also obese They now want a another pup from us & we have to seriously think about whether that is path we wish to head down

ask your breeder?They should be the one assisting you in showing & breeding & the dogs general health

We don't do deposit. We encourage all our buyers to vet check pup within 48 hrs We also advise the food that should be feed & any changes must be done with consultation or we will void what we guarantee in our puppy contract. Diet can create many evils & not all brands suit each breed for varying reasons. If people wish to change diet then it would be very simple to discuss what they wish to use & there reasons behind. To many vets will sway puppy owners mind on a diet they sell without understanding that product or even the breed in question & A good breeder is very knowledgeable about what suits there breed & pups for the long term future

Yep & in my breed actually being able to groom the breed you wish to sell not go to the groomers

Yep ask around,many of the juniors will help or other people within your group BUT be prepared early,don't wait till last minute. Ask your support people to introduce you to people who may be able to help. I show on my own & often need to call the troops in but i am lucky that in our camp we all help each other

I think if you read orbit other post's you would be well aware that the dog has had all the care under world given & vet treatment BUT there comes a time where you can pay $1000 each year with no result from vet /holistic etc etc. People then go down the path of what best maintains that animal condition at it's worst time. We see people who bring there dogs here who have spent a fortune on there dogs care with no end result except simply being ask to put there hands in there pocket & spend more & more. I too am not a believer of "easy option " of pills but also appreciate for some dogs it is a must & like the food debate the same applies . If these people choice to neglect the meds that brought/bring comfort to there animals after many avenues had failed then they would be accused of not given the right care. If the answer was so simple there would't be a need for pills & hands in the pocket
