Lets just say if he fully believes the suregry will be a success than either he hasnt been told the percentage ratio of failure s7 The vet hasnt been very honest or he is feeling guilty. The simple fact is there is no guarantee it will work, infact i off hand now of 4 dogs who had the surgery without success,it may be a small percentage but something to consider in the whole equation. I have owned 4 dogs who all where completely blind & lived happily for 5 yrs until other issues started to appear.it was no big deal & they coped well. I will also be the first to admit that there are some dogs who dont deal with it & that is when it comes down to reading your dog & doing the right thing. Dont feel guilty,it didnt concern him to phone when the blindness was occurring but only now there is a price tag. There are so many factors to weigh up with this kind of surgery & there is no way i would pay $2000 without being involved in the consults & the pro/cons side of things.

Nope.you can watch main area events streamlined live on the Crufts TV channel & listen to FM crufts. The time difference does make it hard to watch though

cataract suregry doesnt always mean success ,you could spend $2000 & it be a failure . The after care process is just as important & there will still be life long bills after the surgery so who will pay for these ??? How old is the dog now & what degree of cataracts does she have,is it one eye, both, has it been caused by diabetes?? For the last 5 years who has paid for the vet bills?? The cataracts wouldnt have appeared over night unless due to a medical condition or injury so why didnt they mention there may have been an issue earlier if it is simple progressive cataracts?? I have owned dogs with cataracts & you notice very early on the changes. Im sorry to say i wouldnt pay because of the circumstances. He took on full responsibility ,he hasnt asked for any monies for vaccs, food, general vet or medication bills in over 5 years

So what was the atmosphere like? I would think I wouldn't be so worried or concerned for my dogs at a Racecourse, this venue however is in a suburban area in Western Sydney,so I can see why Tyra2007 is concerned. It was still open to all & i cant say there was any issue with not been able to watch. The main issue at this venue for me personally was you had to go up 2 flights of major stairs with the dogs & that proved quite tricky & the floor surface was too slippery, given the choice i would sooner have showed outside The highlight though was the fire alarm been set off & everyone evacuating during inter bitch

The Dobe national when held in SA at the race course the dobes had to stay outside whilst we where inside

Limit Register And Travelling Overseas
Dogsfevr replied to nicolatu's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think you need to sit down & look at what your plans would be with the dog & what regions you hope the dog can go too & then look at the quarantine info regarding importing/exporting. We board alot of dogs owned by Singapore students who when it comes time to return home had no idea about teh costs involved & have to make the decision whether to take the dog or leave it especially if after the re studies there looking for jobs maybe in other countries. Obviously it is very doable but it isnt cheap & it also relies on residency issues for the dog . Also the size of dog factors into costs. You would need to budget depending on country ,agents that deal with that country on atleast $3000 plus(one way) -
go back to basics ,i also feel many people get caught out by believing there trained to early & forget the classic signals.

I have never heard off this & the various nationals i have attended have all been outside bar 3 in 20 odd years

Limit Register And Travelling Overseas
Dogsfevr replied to nicolatu's topic in General Dog Discussion
limited register has no effect. Although when you say holidays what do you mean??What country Travelling internationally isnt simple with a dog.NZ doesnt have quarantine but you need to have the full tetsts done & cleared before travel which isnt cheap & the other countries require quaratine & pre tests in a set period -

I would go to the chemist & buy either flora max or a similiar product for relining good gut bacteria. You can add pumpkin to his meal is great for tummy issues. Besides his food does he get any treats(pig ears or the likes??) I have also experienced with some of my dogs very lose tummies whilst teething If it was my dog i would actually cut a meal out every few days & see how his tummy goes.

Find a good groomer & get them to pluck. Most will charge $10/$15 dollars. There is no need to knock the dog out. Also does the dog have yeasty feet?? generally dogs with bad ears have bad feet as they transmit it there when scratching. You need to treat both to stop the problem

http://www.bmdcsa.com/links.html On this page it has links to Berner groups both in Oz & worldwide. These rae a great place for chatting/talking & learning. Obviously in your case the best shows for a good Berner turnout would be the Royal Show . You could always email the Qld breeders & ask what shows often have a good turnout as your interested in the breed

What Would You Class As Excessive Amounts Of Water?
Dogsfevr replied to bell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree drinking excessive can be a major sign of illness & paying attention to these things can mean the difference between getting on top of things early or leaving it too late. As far as her water intake how much does she spill out??Is she a messy drinker or a very clean drinker. My guys put more on the floor than in there mouths. If your not sure maybe just head to the vet for a blood test or the likes -
But that is the point there not losing to grands there losing to a titled dog. The title doesnt make it win . I refuse to withdraw a good speciman just to let others have go & would hate to win points because the good dogs where withdrawn. The good dogs are out there so everyone can see what the breed is capable & if people give up because they think the title of that dog is beating them then they seriously need to have a look at what there doing or the quality of there dog. My dogs werent advertised when they where shown & i didnt go in the ring with a sign on my head saying grd ch.I went in with *** like everyone else & ran around the ring & the judge picked the dog on the day & like everyone else i was beaten . If dogs are are so young & capable of keeping the breed in the winners map then i would think its madness to withdraw & show lesser quality if they cant beat said dog/dogs. I retired my first grand on a high 4 yrs after obtaining his title ,why would i retire a 2 yr old I will also say showing a breed with minimal breed numbers i strive for grp/bis level . See thats where newies go wrong, they expect to just win. I see the other side & would admire those special dogs & study every inch at shows & crave all i could to better myself

Having showdogs all ours are crate trained. The other major factor vet trips/stays mean they go in a crate. Also you will read on this forum people whose dogs have injured themselves badly & suddenly need to be crated. A dog that can happily accept a crate when the time arises is a god send. We dont use them daily as such except for puppies who are safer to be crated at night than roaming until they are more experienced

But if you head east for any shows she can handle there. Qld is the only state with the 10 & over rule

There are many dogs shown that have bloated ,some do choice to breed with them but many of the people i deal with dont. In my experience those who have bloated there has been a major family history . As for bloat prone any breed can bloat & many dont consider small dogs as being in the same boat but they can, precautions should be taken irrespective of size

Congratulations And Criticisms
Dogsfevr replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is the difference with the US/canadian show world, they do congratulate & it would be rude not too, here its always rude to congratulate I"m not sure I understand this...considered rude to say 'congratulations'? Is it rude to also ask if a fellow exhibitor is ready to proceed around the ring when the judge says 'take them around'? Because I'm not getting much of that consideration either. Is it rude when exhibitors crowd in a line up and they are asked not to, or to back up a bit? Because I got that impression when I've had to request someone not allow their dog to stand on top of mine. I was taught to say please and thank you.....perhaps I"m being rude to do that in shows here then? I guess i worded it badly. I have many US videos of dogs shows where exhibitors gather in the middle & shake hands, pat there back or a verbel well done. You rarely see it here(infact i have never seen it done in that fashion here after showing in 4 states). Some as already pointed out here dont take the Congrates well so for some saying it is like its "rude" (need a better word to insert) We dont have the sportsmanship of the Us in "congrates " here . As for the rest i always say are you ready but many dont they just take off , As for crowding well im polite the first offence but dont take likely to fools, what you expect i expect except here the congrates just isnt done in the same manner -
I now he said no clubs but there are others which is why i said join them. 5 yrs for me would be a waste ,Berners arent rare & what you see now may not be the same in 2 yrs time. You can certainly learn the ropes of showing /grooming & the likes but to enquire now i would say most breeders wouldnt even put the name on there list . 2 yrs the breeders would have some idea of planed breedings or what there future holds. I dont even now what my plan is for 5 yrs

I have been showing for 25 yrs & maybe i deal with it differently. I see the tainties no different than the morons on the road he cut you off or dont follow the rules, the same as the crazy shopper with the trolley who rams through without thinking ,the people who get drunk & ruin your event & the list goes on. These same people are everywhere & will have issues whether it be at shows or general life. I can certainly say the offenders i now are the same everywhere not just shows. What i have found in the last 10/15 is new comers expecting so much like there owed. They seem to forget that we all started from scratch & when we started we didnt have show classes, easy internet access, people didnt help back then like now or in our case a breed not well known so help was very hard to come by. We did have people who helped within reason but by the same token we are a believer in educating yourself. We have to help ourselves first to gain respect off others. I help alot of people now whether it be handling & grooming & some flourish others you start to bang your head against the wall as they make no effort to learn but plenty of whinging but you keep assisting with an open mind . When we started we paid a fortune for a VHS camera & we videoed & videoed & watched & watched & learnt from our mistakes. These days for you can buy cameras so cheap & its the best tool around for honesty. We have video friends who whinged & complained about losing BUT couldnt accept what they where doing was contributing or that the dog had obvious faults. After viewing the penny dropped although a small few will still be blind to what they see I dont think you need to be thick skin you simply need to be realistic & honest. You need to appreciate the opposition & also appreciate what some judges look for.I have bombed out big time BUT having watched how.what the judge was looking for could see the pattern of what they wanted & had no issues losing after all we dont always win People are there worst enemies & many out there dont see there own actions but are always ready to fault others

my guys are coated. The 2 in question took 4 hrs pre groom/trim & 5/6 hrs show bath/dry & no i didnt retire in any hurry

Ear-gluing - A Different Question Than Stitchs

in 25 yrs of breeding taped 4 pups -
5 yrs i wouldnt bother, some breeders may have retired by then or the stock you like now you may hate then. Join the berners clubs that are around .head to shows or make a trip to a berner shows.
