  1. As a groomer just make sure you brush your dog if using that style of coat. With a coated breed it will matt so you must remove if often & brush through
  2. Ask your breeder ,ask other exhibitors or even people in other breed who are good groomers. It isnt hard BUT the more regular you do it the easier it is & you have the line to follow.if you let it get woolly & overgrown it becomes hard work if your not sure
  3. We have glued but o be honest we have never bothered with a dog whose ear set is bad to start with, depending on how the folds & cartiledge sits really depends on how successful it may be. With pups who have just gone off during teething we have had great resukts but if the ears where bad from day 1 we didnt even bother
  4. There is no set rule fro grooming . In goldies some do very little, some do the basics & others trim . The main key is it must be done regular . It amzes me how many butchered goldie necks i see at shows & it is very obvious it was done the day before. Trimming should look well blended & like it was never done
  5. Who says the internet has better breeders. I dont see where the if its in the paper they must be bad has appeared from lately. Before average Joe had computers everyone advertised in the paper. Even now i now plenty of well known/ethical breeders who still use the paper because commen sense tels you thats the first place most people look. It doesnt matter what the form of advertising is its all about doing your homework & buying with your head
  6. I dont now of many who have retired grands unless there where elder dogs when made up, Certainly the dogs i owned/showed & the ones owned by fellow friends have all been shown fully if the dogs are still competitive. Some may have been partially retired just for the big shows but often these people had other dogs . In my case i didnt have other dogs so they where retired on big wins or when you new it was the right time
  7. we never clip hot spit areas. Hot spots are the unknown factors, Diet, insect bites, wet, damp, collars that stay moist underneath.Ungroomed coats etc etc We find hydrogen peroxide (3%) chemist or the likes to work very well
  8. nearly every breed is in there prime from 3 onwards, some even latter. My 2 are coated breeds who are at there peak from 4 onwards. My current youngster by breed tradition isnt in its prime till 7 onwards.
  9. Most people i now who had semen stored at vets in armadale area have transferred it to Toodyay vet
  10. scrap the tin. have you talked with the breeder??
  11. I own 2 at home & have titled many for others. My 2 at home where grand titled at 2 & 3 yrs, well before there prime. To retire them on the title alone would mean there show career had truly never began. My 2 yr did his biggest winning at 5/6 which is expected in the breed . My other went on to win multi BISS at 4/5 Both also multi BIS winners. I dont breed but campaign my dogs ,what i have is what i show through till retirement. The reality is grand title is no different than Aust ch.If they cant be beaten at either level then it either means the quality of the others isnt there & or they just not ready yet, I would hate to see grand ch retired well before there prime which is what happens to most
  12. It is a great place to see schnauzers,There will be entries aussie wide there. Just keep in mind being a speciality it isnt the easiest show to talk to breeders as they will be busy watching or grooming but it will be an excellent show to see the stock there from varying kennels
  13. We use flora max all the time & i always start the dogs on it before flying eat to shows & continue. The gut is responsbale for so many aspects so caring for it is a good thing
  14. I would never put a 14 yr old through an amputation. Im sorry to say i would sooner enjoy the time with 4 legs & go day by day than put an oldie through all the pain & rehab required with an amputation & learning to walk again.
  15. Clipping a dirty coat also kills the blades quickly. If you dont bath often make sure the dogs are clean before clipping.
  16. The same here .i have chosen the option just say nothing
  17. He is supposed to have fur, he is a Schnauzer, I don't quite get why you want him to look so skun. A #10 is certainly as short as I would go, most that I do I use a #7 and they certainly don't suffer here in the Qld climate. We do #7 in winter but not summer coat grows faster .#7 for most leave it too long unless clients are coming back 5/6 weeks
  18. Its only sperm & if both sides are worried about wearing it then you not in a position to ensure he will be spot on. You are lucky & have big dogs so it is way easier /
  19. There is no miracle coat grower. Growing coats is all about the diet being feed, coat maintenance & the family genes
  20. Puppy was the Staffy . Minor may have been the staffy & the border Puppy.I cant remember but both these breeds won either of those classes
  21. BIS puli RUIS cavie baby Chow minor i think B collie puppy junior GSD inter RUIS Aust BIS open Rotty
  22. Well i would have simply moved away.If you chose to take a dog to a large gathering you have to be prepared for things that can go wrong & deal with it. The minute i felt i was getting blocked in i would have moved anyway because a dog & an auction could lead to something going a stray anyway & still causing a fuss. The kid may have been a monster he may have been bored out of his mind & playing La la or could have had an issue but either way when we take dogs out in public we have to be prepared for the unexpected . maybe im more inclined to think that way as i showdogs & im always mindful of dogs & public places
