I'm glad to hear that you've sorted things out. Now's time for the photos.

Tilba had had 2 vaccinations when she went to puppy preschool & I carried her to & from the car to the vet clinic where it was held. We took her for trips in the car & only let her on the ground to toilet. I also took her to Erskine Park a couple of time to dog shows . Her breeder said she would have been fine but I didn't walk her around the neighbourhood until she'd had her 3rd. giraffez, I would hold her whenever I took her out until he's had all his shots. If you have friends with vaccinated, friendly dogs you can also let him play with them. Another point, don't let any dog drink from a communal water bowl at dog parks. You don't know which dogs are vaccinated or not.

Great photos from Hobart. Looks like you had good weather, though some look a little cold.

Are they plastic or wire crates? I think metal would be ok if you scrubbed all the joins etc with the appropriate disinfectant. Plastic absorbs smells & colours. As said ask your vet, after all they would have dogs/puppies in their waiting rooms with parvo & must clean them properly.

I would start here. http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ Go to media archives - TV clips & watch Tom Lonsdale speak about the benefits of feeding raw.

I've heard that tuna being a deep sea fish should be fed in moderation to cats because of the mercury. So I stay clear of any cat foods with tuna & a lot of the dry foods have tuna. So I imagine the same caution with dogs. I have also heard to be cautious of feeding chicken necks. I have given them to my dogs on occasion but when Sooty was a young pup she would swallow them whole. It used to worry me what happened to them but I've since learned that dogs have the appropriate acids in their stomachs to disolve raw bones. I would try your pup on raw chicken wings. Raw bones are my favoutite way to keep dog's teeth clean. You should also separate raw bone meals & kibble meals by 10-12 hrs. The kibble takes longer to digest than the bones & will stagnate in the gut if the kibble is sitting ahead of it. So it's best to give bones at night with kibble in the morning or visa versa. My breeder told me to give Tilba sardines in oil to Tilba to help with dry skin.

I echo photos. Poor little fellow. I always feel so guilty when I bring home a new puppy, taking them away from their litter & mum.

Something else I just thought of. Can you take a baby blanket that you've had around you or an old t-shirt to the breeders the week b4 you pick her up. The breeder can put it in with the pup & that way she will be familiar with your smell. Also a good excuse to see her again.

Hello & welcome to dol. The puppy is very cute. The main thing to be aware of is not to cuddle & pat her if she shows any shyness. This will tell her its ok to be like that & make it worse. As with all the things she does, ignore the bad & praise the good. A good website where you'll be able to download the book for free "Before You Get Your Puppy" by Dr Ian Dunbar a veterinary behaviourist. It takes you through to puppies 1st month at home. You can also access exerts from his other book "After You Get Your Puppy". If you use the search engine you can find info on everything dog including radio broadcasts with Dr Dunbar & video clips on various subjects & puppy/dog classes. www.dogstardaily.com It's also a good idea to enrol into a good puppy preschool so she can get used to being with other puppies b4 she's finished her vaccination schedule. Then a positive obedience club. And socialise, socialise, socialise to everything & everybody young & old that she will encounter during her lifetime. Good luck with your new puppy & we look forward to pictures & how she gets on when she comes to live with you.

Congratulations to the Thunderdogs. ;) -
Thanks Jenny, I'll keep an eye out for them. At least the weather should be a little kinder later in the year. ;)

I'll be there with Tilba.

Your little fellow is gorgeous. Definitely ignore the whining in the crate. At www.dogstardaily.com you can download the book 'Before You Get Your Puppy' which takes you through to puppies 1st weeks at home. Then you can get exerts from 'After You Get Your Puppy'. It covers house training, bite inhibition, chew toy training & behaviour problems.

I'm no expert, but it's my understanding that a litter is registered with the state body be it main register of limited register. When selling a puppy the breeder gives you the forms to send in to the state body, you pay the appropriate fee & get the pup's pedigree papers in your name.

Yes, don't go out to him unless you're sure there's something wrong. I know when my cat was a kitten she would get the zoomies morning & night & run around the house like mad. She quietened down by about a 1yr old. I can't remember any of my puppies doing that but they sleep/slept inside at night.

Spaying Our Golden Retriever, Cookie - Advice Pls
luvsdogs replied to Sera Bishop's topic in Puppy Chat
I had my dog Tilba spayed at 14 mths old after her having her 1st heat at 10 m/o. The reason I waited was after reading this article. http://www.caninesports.com/SpayNeuter.html There's also this one. http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongTermHea...euterInDogs.pdf All my previous dogs were done at 6 mths. When I took her for her 1st vet visit after getting her I discussed it with my vet & she agreed with me stating that bitches had a lesser chance of getting vaginitis if having only 1 heat. I was worried how I would manage her during her heat but luckily for me none of what I was worried about happened. Not saying that it won't for you. You need to gather as much info as possible & if you can't guarantee that you can keep her safe during a heat, have her spayed now. I insisted Tilba have an invisible stitch because our other dog had it done that way & you could barely see the incision & she never touched it. Tilba wasn't so lucky, hers was red & lumpy & seemed to have a couple of creases. She had to wear an Elizabethan collar because she wouldn't stop licking it. As it's healed it's still lumpy & the vet, not the one that did the op, said it was normal, but I'm not so sure. Tilba didn't come home with pain relief & I've read the reason it's not always given for home is because the dog feels well & it's harder to keep them quiet in the 1st few days following the op. -
Not that I always do that, it is what I've heard you should do.

I've used a few different kibbles with my dog. She's now on Advance adult. I add different things to her food as her breeder suggested like sardines in oil, raw egg, low fat yoghurt, natural cottage cheese & raw meaty bones which you don't give with a kibble meal.
-
When Tilba was 1st home she was fed according to the breeders instructions which was 1/2 cup kibble 3 times a day with additives alternated of sardines, raw egg, yoghurt, cottage cheese & raw meat. She was also give raw bones once or twice a week. At the time she was 7-8 kg & 12 weeks old.

I unfortunately can't go. How often do you have them & are there other places?

Our club has them. If you can't find anywhere else I'll ask our equipment officer where she got them from. Their one of the best investments the club has made. -
You can learn a lot about puppies on www.dogstardaily.com You can download for free " Before You Get Your Puppy" by Dr Ian Dunbar.
