  1. Not living in Vic I don't know anything about them. I looked at the APDT Australia website & they are listed in the trainer's directory (Nicole Beasley) so i guess they are what you're looking for.
  2. How much is it likely to cost? And how many days?
  3. I'd almost had my oh wanting to go to the clinic which I would really like to go to. My mother has a bus trip organised in July & I thought it was the 20th July. She told me today it is the 13th. Another reason why I hate the no. 13. So disappointed.
  4. Awwwwwwww, she's so cute. I wanted to name my puppy Madison, Maddy for short, but my son named his daughter Maddison so I had to come up with something else. Read as much as you can on socialisation & how to grow a healthy large breed puppy. Good luck, puppies are so much fun but a lot of work.
  5. Are you taking holidays when the puppy arrives? This gives her a chance to get to know you, settle into a routine & importantly give her her midday meal. I would do as kitty suggests & put her in a safe, easy clean room with nothing that can hurt her otherwise a baby play pen with open crate, water, chew toys like a stuffed kong & some safe toys. If you go to www.dogstardaily.com & download the book by Dr Ian Dunbar "Before You Get Your Puppy" you will see a diagram of a puppy's long term confinement area on page 56.
  6. You could also use a very mild salt water solution to wipe them with. About 1/4 tsp to a cup of boiled, cooled water.
  7. Have a look at this look. Your pup is of an age that you should put a stop to it. He should learn bite inhibition. http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/puppy-biting
  8. If that happens & he won't come back the best thing to do is run in the opposite direction or fall on the ground in a heap. He's sure to come back to you to see what's wrong.
  9. I don't have a dog pen. When Tilba was little I left her in the crate while I went out shopping. But it was only for a couple of hours at the most. When she was bigger & getting on better with Sooty she was left in the back yard with Sooty.
  10. Hi Amy. We have the same problem with my son's dog Sooty. She starts whining at the back door ages b4 we even know there's going to be a storm. I think it all started when we 1st got her as a tiny puppy when there were storms quite often. They take their queues from us. We haven't done anything to help her except to try & be home if we know storms are forcast. Once inside she wants to be with someone but will pace around the house or hide under the furniture. There is a plug in pheramone infuser that emits a calming odour that is said to calm dogs. I once gave Sooty some rescue remedy but it had very little effect. There's also cd's that have thunder or fireworks on them. You start out with it at a very low volume & gradually over a period of weeks increase the volume to its fullest level. I'm not sure if this works because it's said that dogs sence the atmospheric pressure or something that storms emit that we can't see or feel & that's why they know in advance that they are coming. Another thing to try is to stay very calm yourself & don't comfort her during a storm. This will only make the situation worse.
  11. LOL, I agree, nothing more funny than watching a frantic owner trying to catch their dog who is running around the class doing "zoomies". Well done, we'll have an obedience champion in no time. We have a greyhound at our obedience club. She's a sweet dog & in the beginning was a little timid & reluctant to do many of the exercises. Forget trying to get her to drop, sit was a real effort. She's starting to come out of her shell & will even go through an agility tunnel. One afternoon a couple of months ago she was let off lead to do some of the equipment & decided to go for an extended run. She had a ball doing laps around the field. And as you say, the frantic owner & her elderly mother were trying to get her back.
  12. Hi, I was very interested in your posting. Where do I find the TOT and NILIF programs? My dog could do with a bit of extra help! TOT at the top of Training/Obedience/Dog Sports NILIF http://www.google.com.au/search?q=Nothing+...lient=firefox-a There are a lot there. I haven't checked them all out but I think they would be basically the same.
  13. Jenny, do you know if any of the motels in Uralla will allow dogs in their rooms? We have a crate.

  15. You may find what you want on this site. If there's anyone in your area you only have to give them a call & find out what they provide. http://www.apdt.com.au/trainers/directory.html#qld
  16. Hello Tanya & welcome to dol. I know what you mean. You grow used to having a sedate older dog around & then your lifes upside down with a new puppy. Although Tilba didn't have a biting problem. She does jump on people though. I don't know if this is the same link you read about bite inhibition but this is the website one such link comes from. You only have to do a search on anything you want to get the help you need. http://www.dogstardaily.com/ And yes you can use tot on puppies.
  17. I didn't have the biting problem with Tilba, she was nearly 12 weeks old when I got her so she'd learned bite inhibition from her littermates. But she is a jumper & still is. It's so hard to get everyone that we meet on walks & outings to not allow her to jump on them. Most ppl say its ok, they have dogs & are used to it. That's not the point, my mums 92 & frail & I don't want her to jump on her or my 17 m/o granddaughter / I did have the same problem with my cat when she was a kitten, biting & scratching whenever we walked past her she'd attack our legs & feet. A time out used to give her time to calm down. She did grow out of it.
  18. How upsetting for you. I hope they find what it is & can fix her up soon.
  19. Have you tried cliciker training? http://www.clickerlessons.com/index.htm
  20. 4 -5 mths is the age a pup should be putting bite inhibition into place. If your sitting on the lounge & he jumps in your lap, stand up. While waiting for the behaviourist have you thought of joining an obedience club? If you make contact make sure you tell them exactly what your problems are.
  21. These are the only 2 I could find anywhere near Ingleburn. Macarthur Dog Training Club 02 4628 0339 Mrs K Fitzgerald Monday 7.30pm Clark Oval, Kearns Email : [email protected] Campbelltown & Districts All Breeds Knl Club 02 4625 7106 Mrs M Hardwicke Bradbury 2560 [email protected] I'm not sure if the Campbelltown club does obedience.
  22. That's exciting, getting a new puppy. White vinegar & water is a good cleaning product & cheap to use & won't hurt the pup. The most important thing is not to leave anything on the floor that the puppy can get into like cleaning products & dirty cloths. Puppys just love getting into everything they shouldn't have. Even the laundry basket can be a target.
  23. She is very cute. Tilba has been on a number of foods since I got her. The breeder had her on Pedigree dry puppy which I soon changed over. She was on Innova puppy for a while but I found that pp never had a regular supply & it quite often would be nearly out of date or actually out of date. I mentioned it to them & they had a lot of reasons why, it was hard to get new shipments, it would be ok to feed we give it to the pups in the shop. I got fed up & looked for another food. Especially when Orijin was taken off the market I was dubious of the food being imported into Aus & she's currently on Advance adult. As well as dry she gets a variety of things that the breeder suggested I add to her food. Raw eggs once or twice a week. The same with sardines, yoghurt, cottage cheese & raw meat & bones. And of course the best way to feed dogs is the way nature intended & that's raw meaty bones & offal. If she's going to be a large dog I would also grow her slowly to prevent joint problems.
  24. Have you tried being a tree. When the lead goes tight you stand still & don't move a muscle. Wait until she slackens off the lead & sits or drops give her a treat & praise & move off again. You may only get a couple of steps. You need to allow extra time for walks & to start off with you may not even get very far. If you let her pull for even a step she'll try you out again & you have to start all over.
  25. http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/puppy...home-8-12-weeks http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/puppy-biting Above are 2 articles on puppies & biting. Puppies don't have hands & experiment with their mouths. It's up to you to teach the puppy bite inhibition.
