  1. Yes it is going to happen its inevitable. BSL is going out and when it does no one will forget not only those that fought for it but those that didnt fight against it I know I wont and that includes the pissweak RSPCA.
  2. The existing dog laws (apart from bsl) are ok but they need to be expanded we need more awareness and education. The BSL is garbage and the only places they attempt to enforce it is in towns full of sad sods that have nothing better to do than make peoples lives miserable. Midol Thanks for the info regarding the greyhounds.
  3. Ok . . . say all dog owners need licenses. This also applies to a 75 yr old with a 4 kg lapdog who would have trouble taking on a mouse? Yes. All dog owners, all dogs. Would all family members need to be licensed? No. The owner is responsible. There can never be absolutely every base covered. Firstly its impossible, and secondly its not necessary. The only thing that can happen if you strive for a goal like that is they come up with things like bsl, or banning all breeds above a certain weight, or banning dogs all together. What about the mean ACD, worth his weight in gold for stock management, but ready to put other dogs and strangers in their place with a bite or two? Doesnt matter what the dogs work is, its upto the owner to keep it away from other people if its vicous. If the dog does bite someone, then the owner gets charged. Would the dog fighting crew just nick out of the system and hide their dogs? Dog fighting is a crime and if people are found to be doing that they should be charged. Messy. It's hard to write good dog legislation. Yes it is hard, but not because its hard to come up with something thats fair, I think all of it is straight forward. The part thats hard is getting the government to take it seriously enough and allocate the priority and resources to make it happen. Like I said before if they really cared about dog attacks the way they keep banging on about it then there shouldnt be a problem. Can anyone suggest a place (including urban/suburban neighborhoods) that has really good dog laws? The majority of Sydney seems to be good. One of the best in my view and first hand experience is Marrickville.
  4. I dont know anything about Greyhound legislation or this green collar. I'd like to hear more about it though. I wasnt aware anything had changed with regard to the muzzling. Nothing iv suggested is breed specific everything there is for all dogs.
  5. What are your ideas about the licensing process ? Maybe a license could be something like getting a green card, youd know about that. You go and have the rules explained to you, get some ideas on the basics of responsible ownership, be provided with information with regard to the mandatory training you will have to carry out, penalties with regard to what happens if you dont carry out those responsibilities or if your dog attacks someone, questions and answers, ect, you pay your fee, and recieve your license. Theres another industry. So far in the last few posts iv boosted 1 industry by about 10 000% and created a new one all together Its a good question because we do need to offer alternative ideas. When bsl falls down they are going to want to replace it with something, and maybe this time it can be something that will work. Sometimes I wonder if politicians are really as dumb as they seem, or if its because real solutions require effort, time, and money. So instead they come up with harmful slap stick legislation like bsl. Makes you wonder how much they are really concerned about dog attacks.
  6. Sorry my mistake. Yes if there is a compulsory training initiative, support of ethical breeders, and serious criminal charges if your dog attacks, I think that covers all bases. The council can have the job of identifying dangerous dogs I dont see the big complication ? I suppose the problem with it is thier definition of dangerous isnt it. My friend had her Rottweiler declared dangerous because it ate the neighbours rabbits. Other dogs are bieng declared dangerous because they are guard dogs. Her dog could have gotten a double whammy, "super dangerous" Scary stuff. It barks at strangers and eats rabbits. Get rid of the BSL, bring in intelligent initiatives that will actually reduce dog attacks and are fair to all, and ill close my mouth and put up with dogs bieng declared dangerous for eating birds and rabbits.
  7. No its not. Desexing should not be compulsory and you should not need a license. There is no consensus that vets should report people for what they think are dangerous dogs. Thats an awful idea. Infact we have just talked a bit about that in a thread about a new law in Italy. They are not qualified for one thing, and they would never accept the responsibility anyway because they would lose alot of money. With compulsory training - We all have different ideologies, and there are more bad trainers out there than good, so we must be able to choose the accredited trainer. Maybe we could set it up so that your given say 2 years from when you purchase your dog to complete a given program of training, and perhaps there could be refresher training at other intervals through the dogs life. This would not only provide training to dog and owner, but bring knowledge together, create an environment of support. The industry would grow thats for sure. Now thats forward thinking, thats something that really is good for everyone, but as always the devil is in the detail. We also need serious criminal charges brought against the owners of dogs which bite somene (unless they are proven to be intruders or threats) and very important to support ethical breeders. We cant support ethical breeders if where forcing them to operate underground can we.
  8. Anyone that loves the breed would say that. Theres nothing to hide here our breed is great and where proud of it. He's talking about responsible ownership isnt that what its all about, no matter what breed you own you have to stay ontop of it. We have the problem amongst APBT fanciers where people deny facts in what they think is in the dogs defence. We dont need lies they are undermining us. Rottweiler people have the same problem. "Using bad information can never be justified, even in the persuit of a noble cause. It only gives ammunition to those seeking to undermine your case"
  9. Quite right I was going to correct myself when I saw you say that. You can prove parentage to ANKC registered Amstaffs but dna on its own is no good.
  10. First off hopefully his got a good council down there. I wouldnt know the first thing about sa but up here it goes by councils, some are great and others are relatively strict so hopefully your brother lives in one of the former. An Amstaff is a pitty so if he has no papers its impossible to prove its not an APBT. What he needs to do is handle the dog responsibly, make sure it never escapes which ensures it cant harass anyone or attack anything, keep him on the leash, teach him to heal and other basic obedience. If his a good dog thats well looked you should be all but in the clear.
  11. Well you know I think that the end result is that this law will be ignored and then scrapped, or rallied against AND ignored, then scrapped. People are going to avoid going to the vet as much as possible in fear of what the vet may report. Vets are gonna lose big bucks they will either protest against the laws until thier changed or they will simply ignore them in an effort to restore customer confidence.
  12. It sounds a bit shadey doesnt it, but that doesnt detract from the fact another European country has scrapped bsl. As for the surgery they dont crop ears over there anymore not to sure on tails I gather they still do that so that might be affected, and de-sexing will certainly be included under "non health purposes" aswell, barring outstanding individual cases im sure.
  13. Yes PPS runs around enforcing the laws and then comes on here like a big hero and dribbles on about how much she is against bsl ------ This same sentiments expressed by some here over and over obey the law and they will change it. Ding ding hello that ISNT how it works. How about you sight me some examples of when that has worked, and then ill sight you "1 or 2" examples of when everyone rejecting the law gets it thrown out. Its already started in europe and it will spread here there IS an end in sight for BSL.
  14. i think it depends on the situation. I also agree that this kind of thing is over processed but there is truth to itm just not a one size fits all rule, like most things in training. With the running through doorway, like you say in some instances its fine, but in others its not. Say the handler is opening the door to come inside, and the dog barges past him to get in, thats not acceptable. same as walking, the control starts from when you call the dog to clip on the lead, then the dog should be healing and walking out calmly, not shoving past you to get out the front door, or straining the lead. Out on the street his trying to tell you what pace to walk at, what direction to go in, and when to stop and start. Well it should be the other way around. so overall i think its based on common sense. the dog has to be in a position where it looks and listens for cues from its owner before it does anything, ie, follows your lead, instead of doing everything on its own initiative.
  15. ruger naughty naughty that ?git? was saying that if you have a problem with recall, dogs bolting out of cars and down the street, ect, the solution is to blame yoursel and improve your leadership not make a joke out of it, blame the dog or the breed and hope for better luck next time.
  16. its bullshit those dogs could have been any breed or cross breed. today at the beach a lady's little dog got attacked. she was telling everyone it was a pitbull. infact it was a bull arab looked nothing like a pitty. theres another one for the pitty tally. nothing against bullarabs i admire them very much and have also owned one personally, but they are very numerous in qld so how many of these "staffies", amongst all the cross breeds, golden retrievers, wombats and koalas where bull arabs. look magic 145 attacks by staffs.
  17. pf i dont want to fight with you but you have been acting like a know it all, your not listening, and then saying well just get another breed all the temperments are alike. ease up on bieng so offended and consider that some of the stuff you are saying is also not only annoying but offensive to other people.
  18. they have been answered you are just not listening because you think you already know better. the poodle owner who is apparently a pitbull expert.
  19. pf you dont sound like your even reading the responses to your questions your just repeating the same things over again.
  20. you have just been told that one of the things we value is the ability to work. if you dont agree too bad. you like poodles, we like pitbulls, end of story. an even tempermant, unmatched tenacity and eagerness to please are amongst the traits the breed is characterized by. these traits should be highly valued in any dog in any job including loved suburban family pet. ethical apbt breeders are breeding primarily for correct type in TEMPERMANT and thats why the apbt is bred to a working standard for ethical buyers and the pet market not dog fighters.
  21. if you agree with pps then you have nothing to worry about do you you shouldnt feel threatened by people registering thier dogs as ast's. i saw your post before you edited you said that registering as ast's puts your breed in jeopardy. well if you agree that ankc breeds will be untouched by bsl then whats the problem ?
