  1. Dont subscribe to all these lessons about dog training and apply them blindly. Consider advice in a broad sense and apply with caution and common sense taking your dogs characteristics into account. Be cautious about taking your dog to puppy school, and ensure the instructor is an accredited trainer as most are not. "Socialising" your dog does not mean throwing it in the deep end and letting it fend for itself.
  2. There has never been as many APBT's In Australia as there is today. Thanks for the link Sticky lets wait and see
  3. Everyone says the press is against us because they are. Australian media has got to be amongst the worlds most dramatized. Same crap over and over on dogs and everything else, it would be a bloody riot if it wasnt so dissapointing. Im often embarressed at the mere thought that people visiting from foriegn countries watch and read our news. America is ahead of Australia on the BSL issue. Reportedly there are many cities and states who's situation is like it is here but I think most are pushing BSL away, especially leading states and cities with NY leading the way to enlightenment as usual
  4. Looking forward to a win for our dogs all the best to all involved
  5. When that kids mum stops laughing that kids gonna be in a world of trouble
  6. A well bred dog should be even tempered. Some breeds have more suspision toward strangers than others, but none should be aggressive unless they are taught.
  7. Amstaffs are a strain of APBT of which there are many. Sometimes people talk about Amstaffs and APBT's bieng "crossed" which can lead to confusion. They call these hybrids (popular in America). Some people just like to call them that but they are purebreed APBT's. In the context of this thread for an Amstaff to be safe it must be an ANKC registered.
  8. tybrax  Tatelina your wording your posts just fine. Some people just wont acknowledge your point because it makes a little too much sense for there liking
  9. oh wow thats a good one, alot of comedians on this website. They should dump Rove and pick up dogzonline instead
  10. APBT's are already involved in few incidents, thats how it is now and how its always been. They attack sometimes so do all dogs. The vast majority of the time someones either got it wrong, or thier elaborating stories to push thier own agendas.
  11. At first I was thinking it was just some kind of lack of circulation getting to the extremity of the tail due to the cold. See last time her activity prior to the limp tail was consistent with many of the possible causes id read about previously. As goldens says, cold water, hard workout, and some others. This time none of those applied (her tail is back to normal today, btw) Maybe she is somehow prone to the condition, and perhaps she slept on her tail, and that caused the muscle fatigue. She does wag her tail alot, she carries it high (like a goldie), but thats pretty much her default. If shes calm its down, any kind of stimulation which with her is anything, the tail springs up. Im satisfied with the muscle fatigue explanation is makes sense. I think it will re-occur until her conditioning improves. She gets a good amount of exercise and she is pretty ripped with muscle. I do have an ongoing problem with her eating though, that could be related. This might be her body telling me she needs a higher exercise load. She eats eaukanuba premium. For the last 6 - 8 weeks she had been eating 2 cups a day and a few bones. When her condition was perfect she was eating 2 cups a day and 2 steaks, so thats what im trying to gradually bring her back to. Thanks
  12. About 3-4 months ago I got into a big panic when I noticed my dogs tail was limp. After coming on dol and learning of the condition known as cold tail and reading up on it, I realised thats what she had. Her tail did recover over a period of about 3-4 days. Well now 3 days ago it happened again. This time she woke up with it. Today her tail is almost fully recovered, im sure by tomorrow it will be 100%. Now im not worried this time as I know what it is, but just wondering if other peoples dogs get it, and how often can I expect it to re-occur ?
  13. So you dont know what happened ? And how do you know the breed of this dog ?
  14. Greatdanegirl love your danes. Especially Nitro. They look thickset and strong
  15. Now thats what I call a nice looking Staffy Nice head and expression. Got any pics showing his body ? 5 weeks 6 months 18 months
  16. Thats exactly right. Australia is still a backwater country in alot of ways including politically, they can say whatever they like now but in the end our true leadership comes from outside these boarders. They proved that when they introduced BSL here in the first place. We got a bunch of monkeys in office, you know what they say about monkeys and seeing things.
  17. Course they exist, the best ones are under 20kg
  18. Iv never personally seen an ANKC staffy show dog which is over 20kg, but many are over 20kg in the general population, and not because thier fat. There was one I saw the other day which looked around 25, and he was typical of alot that I see.
  19. Midol, cant do it. Some breeds on a whole can be more difficult in some aspects, for instance spitz breeds running away, but there are always exceptions to the rule, what about them ? Its impossible (and unfair) to do it any other way. Kind of like paying tax, you just have to, and the money is then allocated for the good of all. Heres a few different dogs, all different breeds and cross breeds, and a brief summary of any aspect of thier tempermant that needs extra responsibility on the owners part. Most of these dogs are or have been well managed by thier respective owners. I hope it might illustrate how muddled and unfair pinning stereotypes on breeds can be. It has no place in any legislation. These dogs are either mine or close friends that I know well. Unknown Bullbreed x. No behavioural challenges. Malamute. Lacks reliable recall. Is a meathead who can be a challenge to train but does have basic obedience. Not suitable to play with most other dogs because he is too rough and dominant. Rottweiler. Will use force if necessary to defend his yard against strangers, but is gentle as a lamb if they have been invited. Shitzu x Maltese No behavioural challenges. American Pitbull Terrier Not trusted with small breeds. Rottweiller x Staffy Will dominate large breed males and fight if they resist. JRT x Mini Fox Terrier Vicous with other dogs outside of his pack. Escape artist. Unreliable recall. Shiba Inu Lacks all recall. Will bite a stranger if provoked. Golden Retriever Doesnt know how to fight, but will start them anyway. Very dominant with large breed males.
  20. Same rule, all dogs. It is the only thing that is equitable and fair. All dogs can and do attack. Pets are the responsibility of thier owners and its thier owners that are accountable for all actions. Thats the second time in this thread you have made breed specific suggestions. Isnt the title of the thread targetting the owners, and the aim to dump breed specific legislation ?
  21. This is going to be an exciting year for those of us against bsl. 2009 has been and will continue to be a year of progress with several leading governments flushing bsl down the toilet where it belongs. Expert opinion and leading animal welfare organizations cant be ignored forever. This RSPCA is a joke iv got no faith in lobbying them to do anything. The only way they will stand up is when they are forced. The pressure will build here in Australia as laws are written off overseas, foriegn RSPCA are now against bsl, including the RSPCA in Britian, which is where we copied the laws from in the first place, the ASPCA in the USA, and many others. They will be pressured into a leadership role sooner or later iv got no doubt about that. Its coming folks keep fighting, enjoy your Pitties and in the meantime With permission to use the image by its creator, ricey
