  1. To no one in particular, but please read the two links from UK newspapers I put up on this very same page? Gosh.. I mean.. how have I managed to own two 'bull' breeds for over ten years without incident if they're ALL so dangerous? Ooooh perhaps I'm NOT one of those delightfully phrased 'd!ckheads' some refer so eloquently to. Yanno. For the record, I don't particularly like the moniker 'deed not breed'. To me it implies that an incident or deed has to take place before judging that incident / deed. What I DO like is the 'not breed' part. Again, see two newspaper articles.
  2. I don't know if I'd want to believe that what was reported in the papers always reflected reality. Case in point, this was just posted on DOL: "According to numbers that I obtained through an FOI request a couple of years ago, in the time period of July 1, 2004 - August 15, 2007, 'pit bulls' accounted for 17.7% of all of the dog bites recorded by San Francisco animal control. So while bites by 'pit bulls' accounted for 17.7% of all bites, they accounted for 65% of all dog bite stories - -and 100% of the stories where the breed type was mentioned in the headlines." http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=205117 I read a similar article a few years back, although I've sadly lost it now, but it reported how pitbull attacks were often over reported, whereas attacks by non-pitbull dogs were ignored or only reported in the local papers. I would be interested in seeing what proportion of council registered, responsibly owned, bull breed dogs were involved in attacks, compared with the proportion of other breeds. But to my knowledge, that research has never been done. I had a bash getting info from my local animal control 5 or 6 years ago to do a study like that, but the info just wasn't recorded appropriately for it to be analysed. Exactly! I'm a member of another dog forum, mostly UK based, and it has amazed me how a forum full of people who normally fling themselves wholeheartedly on the 'oh another bull breed' band wagon have failed to see the two most recent dog / child related incidents : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...mauls-baby.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13...mid-collie.html
  3. Gotta start somewhere. Too true. I just worry that it will be put on the back burner before it has chance to spark, so to speak. Fingers crossed they'll keep it current and keep it in the forefront.
  4. Some sense yes. But could be years in the making. Lord Redesdales proposed bill is a private members bill starting in the House of Lords (the proposed Dog Control Bill) and has had only two readings in the House of Lords so far. Committee stage (line by line examination of the Bill) is yet to be scheduled. Andrew Rosindells bill is also a private members bill (this one starting in the House of Commons) but has only been read once in the House so far. A 2nd reading has been scheduled for 17th June 2011 which is when the bill can be debated by other MP's.
  5. lol bl**dy fools GCCC!! Didn't even THINK of it that way round. Nice one!
  6. ;) Not sure if it's the norm. But there was definitely one there a couple of weeks ago Ahh I see I haven't been down there in month.... I have just emailed the lady so will let you know. Thanks I'm there tomorrow, I'll go double check. Horse has been there since I started working there in April :D
  7. ;) Not sure if it's the norm. But there was definitely one there a couple of weeks ago
  8. Have to say I kind of agree. Expecting a deluge of tradesmen at the shelter adopting up all the 'big' dogs! lol It also crossed my mind with regard to public liability insurance when I read this article. How does that go? Eg Someone using a dog to 'guard' tools on a ute. Said dog bites/injures a passer by who gets too close to ute. Question 1. Does the dog have to be registered as a guard dog? Fairly sure on the Gold Coast any dog kept as a guard dog on a property has to be registered as such, has to display a warning on the property etc. Question 2. Is the owner of dog and ute liable? Just something that popped into my head and was curious
  9. Haven't been down to the field for a while, but there WAS a horse there, so horsey stuff could prove useful, yeah ;) Bowls are always good
  10. And the 'didn't you know a Staffordshire Bull Terrier's head cracks/splits when it matures' myth......
  11. And I suppose that is why the UK only recognise the SBT then????????? Where ARE you from? Unbelievable statements...... p.s. my research is not limited to 'ANKC pap either'. Opinion, fine. Facts lacking. Probably believe EBT (miniature, white and coloured) are different breeds . The Boston Terrier has common ancestry and is a different breed, but SBT, AST and APBT are not for the reasons already stated. You almost make whippets sound authoratative!!!! First off - please don't be so rude. Secondly, if you read my reply to you, I'm actually asking a question - hence the question marks! I feel I'm rather wasting my time and effort even bothering to reply..........
  12. I know, it's really very worrying. I know of quite a few people (as, I'm sure others do too) who have Staffords and American Staffords who show, etc. What the heck that would mean for them ..... well......... I know for darn sure, I wouldn't be giving anything up. Soon as I speak to the woman, I'll let you know. p.s. I'm Tracey, Tessie is my Stafford beaaaaatch
  13. I honestly don't know Jackie. I haven't worked with the same woman at work since we had a very brief discussion about it amongst our work group at break time. I'm not back into work until Saturday, but if I see her, I will ask her source.
  14. According to local news, registrations of AST's & crossbreeds have been frozen. And, according to a work colleague any owners of currently registered AST's will be written to and have 60 days to remove the dog from the Gold Coast. (Not sure how true this is, I just can't imagine it being enforcable nor possible?).
  15. Its actually not something that is up for 'vote' Facts are facts. Lo Pan pretty much hits the nail on the head here. If you're not discussing this issue in the same ballpark that Lo Pan is in - then you've probably got no idea on what you're talking about. Sorry, but dems da facts Well now I'm confused...was always under the impression that the AST was 'developed' from the SBT, as opposed to the APBT.
  16. And I suppose that is why the UK only recognise the SBT then????????? Where ARE you from? Unbelievable statements...... p.s. my research is not limited to 'ANKC pap either'.
  17. You shouldn't have any worries as the KC dogs are able to be re-registered. It's the same if you have AKC papers. I would chip if not already done and re-register with the chip to be included on the papers. ETA: you would probably need an export cert from the UK and the breeder would need to sign the docs. It's not as simple as just sending the papers into the CCCQ. Hi SBT123. They're already chipped, have been since pups. So I can just re-register them with CCCQ? Got the export certs, but not signed by the breeder as it wasn't necessary (they're my dogs brought with me from UK, not just imported by me from the UK if that makes sense), so only signed by the vets, etc. as required by AQIS. Thanks for the info.
  18. Out of interest then.. can anyone tell me COULD happen regarding imported dogs? i.e. two dogs brought over from the UK recently, with United Kingdom kennel club registration papers, who obviously don't have ANKC papers? Should I now be considering registering them with the CCCQ???
  19. And if that's a pic of him in your avatar, he looks good on it too! Innova Evo is a grain free isn't it? Tempted to try it..... bump!
  20. I've chosen 'other' as my two are currently on Hills Science ID following a long period of bouts of the squits, however prior to that they were fed Advance, which they did ok on.... BUT I'm wanting to change to something else... the high protein in Artemis concerns me.. but it does look a good food otherwise.... Have a bag of EP holistic select that I'm mixing in with the HIlls to see how they go.. One thing I have noticed is how much hairloss one of my Staffords has suffered since being on the HIlls.....
  21. Irish staffies are KC registered SBTs which are bred longer in the leg and used by dogfighters in Ireland. The dogs have KC papers and are safe from BSL. As usual most are simply family pets. I assume that's what APBT means by working stafford. The show staffie is too short in the leg to be a working breed of any sort. In fact staffie owners from the UK find Aussie staffies impossible to be the same breed as the UK staffie, which of course they are. Many (not all thankfully) are a caricature of the old english pit bull. Off topic, when does one use the terms Staffy, Staffie, Staff or Stafford? Are they interchangeable? I use them interchngably but some people claim there is a difference but can't explain what it is. oh my dear dog, I've read it all now. Quite!
  22. ASTs and APBTs are dual registered in the States, every 30 years due to the small gene pool and serious genetic problems AKC opens it's stud books to APBTs, I guess that's coz their the same breed? But then I could be wrong. Until the 1970s SBTs and ASTs were inter bred between KC and AKC dogs. Again coz they're the same. Dogfighters such as Pete Sparkes who was a breeder more than a fighter interbred all three and complained when people called them different breeds. All three can be traced back, if you have papers which I assume you have, to SBTs imported by Colby et al. ADBA issues APBT papers for Australian registered ASTs if they can trace their pedigrees back to AST imports. Ontario, Denver and every other municipipality and country that bans them except Aust & NZ call them the same breed. The UK calls ASTs and APBTs the same breed. Everywhere else where people have tried to differentiate them has failed because they are the same breed. Only a tiny fraction of the breed has been abused by dogfighters. They are just dogs. Visually different strains within the breed/s are impossible to differentiate. The stds used to judge, depending on the club and fashion, results in differing looks, but they still vary enormously. Longer-legged KC registered SBT are known as Irish Staffies. All this is not rocket science, just plain fact. Authors more knowledgeable than you or I such as Gordon call the SBT a Pit Bull! Two English owners couldn't believe what they saw in the showring here were the same breed as what they had in the UK. Photos of their dogs showed dogs slightly smaller than APBTs. Rather than navel gazing and pretending they each have something no one else has we should be accepting reality and uniting to fight BSL, because it's proponents are our enemies, not who considers the uniqueness or otherwise of their breed. Most dogs being killed by ACOs and animal rights orgs are in fact SBT crosses. Most status dogs which the UK government is moving against are again, SBT crosses labelled as APBT-type. The SBT is also now in the medias cross hairs here. We are being picked off one by one while we fail to accept reality. We can agree to disagree but the dogs are the losers. If you have any evidence to the contrary, please cite. I am more than happy to be convinced otherwise. Do what???????? Long legged KC registered SBT's in the UK are NOT known as irish staffies. Where did you get THAT information? lol Long legged NON registered SBT's are often referred to by NUMPTIES as irish staffies, but that's about it. The UK calls ASTs and APBTs the same breed. Yes, they would lump them AND cross bred Staffords who look to be of 'type' - pit bull type, under the seriously flawed DDA 1991.
  23. but can't reply to it because it's too old! Strange question, but I'm a bit worried, so here's a bit of history first... My dog was prescribed a course of Macrolone (8 tablets in total) for itchy feet, and a bit of hairloss around her eyes, however due to the fact that both my dogs have recently had two bouts of upset stomachs, she was also on a course of Metrogyl too. Though I wasn't overly keen on giving her the cortisone tabs, I did give her 5 days worth just to see if the itching stopped. To be honest, I'm not convinced they did, as I'd also banished both dogs from the grassed area of the backyard too (primarily to see if stopped the diarrhoea) and think that may have helped. Anyway, rambling, but my question is, could the Macrolone cause the skin to thin? Have read it can cause hairloss, but thin skin too? Reason why, Tess now seems to have one or two slightly raised veins on her belly, two BIG veins I can see very clearly down near the outer edge of her vulva, and around the edge of her vulva seems very blue/purple? As I said, bit worrying, and I'm sure not right, wasn't like that before......... Could it be the tablets? Also like to add, that I was NOT told to gradually reduce the dose in any way shape or form. Would that matter so much after only having the tabs for 5 days? The more I read on here about prednisol (sp) the more I'm worrying!!!!
