  1. The tone of your posts suggest you don't think very highly of the SBT. That's o'k, not everyone likes every breed. But you comments regarding height to weight show you don't know enough about the breed to comment on them at all. Look & learn. Kinda have to agree here. (And so glad someone put up the clip of my old breed club :)) I was just about to say - what Staffords have you been observing Haredown Whippets? :) Height to weight? Really? :) I can name several Staffords that have gained top agility titles. But I have to agree with Sandra777. A Stafford probably wouldn't be the best choice in this particular case. Did you listen to the commentary? That was very interesting. Most, if not all dogs live in multi dog homes, & not just staffies only homes. What would be of interest to the O.P. is one lives with a dobermann & two chihuahuas, interesting combination. Another was usually handled by an eleven year old girl who was unavailable on that day. As a staffy person you must have been impressed by Mouse, the white boy with the black eye patch. He has junior warrants in both agility & conformation. A little girl, Mia from memory, is a member of GB's agility team. Not bad for a breed ''unsuitable'' for agility. There was a couple of oldies in there also, both past ten. Bloody marvellous. Plus three or four rescues. edit. Forgot to mention. One has been trained as a gundog & has featured in a couple of gundog mags. Like I said earlier. A foremost all rounder is the SBT. Did I listen to the commentary? Mate, I've listened and watched that clip more times than I can count! I know Mouse and her owner, Jo-Ann and her previous dogs, one named Bacon who was an amazingly positive representation of the breed plus she was pretty good at agility too. I AM an avid Stafford person (sorry don't do 'staffy' lol) having owned the breed for almost 18 collective years. But I'm also a realist - a hell of a lot of Staffords would NOT be good in a multi breed home. That doesn't mean ALL.. just a LOT. Some Staffords just don't like other dogs - period. Pretty sure I haven't said that they are 'unsuitable' for agility? Look up Sarah Adams and her team - one of my favourite Staffords EVER is one of the best agility Staffords - CH Daydream London Calling CD MX MXJ OF CA aka Tess... You said that the original quest by the OP was not for a agility dog full stop, "It was for a breed an eleven year old girl could train & handle for agility which could also cope with living with two rough house dobermanns. & may I add also be the perfect companion dog for a youngster." - Yes a Stafford could fulfill so much of that criteria, but NOT necessarily the roughhouse Dobermanns, and not necessarily for an 11 year old girl. You know how strong they can be? Even as I'm typing this I find myself sounding contradictory - Staffords can be so, so biddable, but also so so bloody minded and stubborn! lol Sorry and all that, but I just don't see it. Jerry Lee, you're saying you're having to defend your suggestion, but even when more than one Stafford 'person' says that the breed might not be the best for this particular case, you're jumping on them just as quick! Myself included. You're barking up the wrong tree. They're the greatest breed in the world as far as I'm concerned, but it doesn't mean they're suitable for all households, or this one case in particular. I can accept that! :) Apologies in advance viewers for the gratuitous SBT agility vid!

  3. Denise the CEO/director of awl who had rehomed the dog prior to the show anyway - great publicity for the awl though on ya :)
  4. I totally agree except many people seem not to like the idea of pressure being applied to the "badly bred dogs component", unfortunately when the ignorant/irresponsible owner surfaces it's too late, their dog has already done the damage IMHO, it's time control was placed upon dog breeding in general to eliminate the present structure which is ultimately a free for all, do as you please situation. It's the breeders of crap dogs faced the music, if you breed rubbish from randomly putting a male and female together that ends up a landshark which comes from a BYB NFI basis, their breeding of dogs needs to be formally stopped. Dog breeding on a do what ever you like basis is rediculous that it's been allowed to go on for so long It's a nice thought but it is pie in the sky stuff. How do you enforce dog breeding practices? They can't enforce the current laws they have now. I would prefer to see more education and involvement of the community. First there needs to be laws controlling dog breeding practices, perhaps a council permit to breed would be a good start. Yep, like Gold Coast City Council have. That works....
  5. We talking about the bolded stories at the top of the page? Two stories of dogs attacking either each other or another dog. Two stories of dogs hanging themselves. Two stories of dogs getting out of the yard and being knocked over and killed. One story of a dog being poisoned. Those ones?
  6. Or how about one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Inflatable-Dog-Protective-Collar-/251043529412?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3a735c42c4 Also known as a Comfy Collar or Procollar. Had one when we lived in the UK, got lost in transit and unfortunatley the UK website is all sold out at the moment I think.
  7. A vet I tried not so long ago!!!!! Seriously... He was recommended to me by a friend (I should have known better, she doesn't have much dog knowledge). I took my boy there for his vacc. as I thought I'd give the guy a try.. Took my SBT into the surgery and the guy proceeded to grab Alf either side of his head and started rubbing his face around the dogs face - I was like 'woah bud what are you doing????'. He was saying oh he's so lovely, my reply was - you don't even KNOW the dog and you're doing that to him???? Needless to say I stopped the appointment there and then and went back to my normal vet. This is a supposedly qualified, 'sensible' person???? sheesh
  8. This dog even has a fan page on FB... I'm almost ashamed to admit that I clicked the like button too.. but he is rather adorable!
  9. Bloomin' good post crisovar. If I had a buck for every flea ridden, matted and wet dog that came in I'd be a rich woman! And when customers ask how long the dog is going to be and you say perhaps a couple of hours (for the wet, muckiest ones) they seem surprised!! lol I obviously try and explain the grooming process to them, but it tends to fall on deaf ears.. we're miracle workers dontcha know!?!
  10. We do not know what the instructions were. Blonde only told us that she wanted her dog's 'socks' left long. We don't even know if the groomer was told the dog was matted. No point at all in berating a groomer that probably doesn't even know this topic exists, but we can warn people that if they present a matted dog to a dog groomer, a caring groomer will probably clip the matted area as first priority, and aesthetics will come second. If you don't accurately describe the condition of your dog to the groomer, the groomer may feel less inclined to consult you before making the dog comfortable. This groomer might be a terrible groomer, for all we know, and Blonde have been very clear and honest with them may be very justified in being angry, but this topic should serve as an warning to anyone who takes matted dog to a groomer. Well said greytmate. We don't have the full details of this story as far as I'm concerned. But one thing I would like to mention is that if the matting had already been mentioned on the phone, then I personally, would have made a point of going over the dog when the dog and owner came into the salon. THEN the discussion on what could or could not be clipped off may have been clearer to both. Who knows? This may or may not have happened.... I don't think we'll really get to the bottom of it Six of one and half a dozen of the other...
  11. For crying out loud, how many times... SOME groomers, NOT all - please don't generalise. I won't take my dog to ANY groomer because SOME of them can't be trusted and I don't know which ones can. So safer to not take them to any. It's an unregulated industry where any weekend warrior with scissors, clippers, a tap, a tub and a hairdryer can hang out a shingle and start fleecing the unwary. And kudos to you for not just trusting anyone to handle or groom your dog. Oh and thank you for now saying SOME. Yes, it's unregulated, and I think that sucks personally. Because those of us who do give a sh*t get lumped in with all the ''weekend warriors''.

  13. Forgive me for I have nothing of use to add to this thread, and there must be something wrong with my head 'cos - he's 13 WEEKS old.. hardly surprising he wants to be with his humans... sorry... I'll go away now BUT edit to add, at that young age you may have to TEACH him how to play, how to interact with his toys and so on. Pique his interest, and initially you WILL have to spend some time with him to do this.
  14. Two Staffords here.. one female aged 9½ years and one male aged 5½ years..... couldn't imagine my life without a SBT, though I could be tempted by a French bulldog or Bull Terrier.... hmmmm or a red SBT.....
  15. The man is a c**k. Don't like him as a cartoon either :p
  16. What utter tripe. More publicity hungry, small time 'news' websites looking to stir the pot. BUT, read on viewers! IF you shop a 'banned' dog you could win a News Shopper mug!!!!! lol Sheesh... who're the mugs? http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/9263660.News_Shopper_launches_campaign_against_dangerous_dogs/ SHOP A DOG is News Shopper's new campaign to bring justice to the victims of dog attacks and help prevent further maulings across south-east London and north Kent News Shopper is running a series of features on dangerous dogs and we need YOUR help to get the law changed to make our parks and neighbourhoods safer for everyone. SHOP A DOG is News Shopper's new campaign to bring justice to the victims of dog attacks and help prevent further maulings across south-east London and north Kent. According to NHS statistics, at least 163 people have been injured by dogs in the News Shopper area in the last two years, leaving some victims with horrific wounds while many irresponsible dog owners have got off scott free. Over the next few weeks we'll be bringing you some harrowing stories involving victims as young as nine and as old as 90. We'll also be calling on you to Shop a Dog. There are currently four types of banned dogs in the UK under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. These are: - pit bull terrier - Japanese tosa - dogo Argentino - fila Braziliero It is illegal to breed from, sell, abandon or give away a banned dog. Whether your dog is a banned type depends on what your dog actually looks like, rather than the breed. What happens if I am caught with a banned dog? The police can seize your dog and keep it in kennels while applying for a court order. If the courts decide your dog is a banned type, you get a criminal record with a possible £5,000 fine and/or a six month prison sentence. This process can take months if not years as experts argue whether a dog is a banned type or not. Meanwhile the dogs are locked up in kennels at a huge cost to the taxpayer. What happens if I am attacked by a perfectly legal dog in the owner's home? Nothing. Under current law this is not a crime - leaving people such as postmen and social workers extremely vulnerable. What happens to owners whose perfectly legal dogs attack people in public? They can be charged with 'allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place' and, if convicted, jailed for up to two years. What happens to owners whose legal dogs attack other pets? The owner can be sued in a county court for the damages caused. Are Staffordshire bull terriers banned? No. Despite at least five Staffordshire bull terrier attacks in the News Shopper area in the last three years, they are legal and don't need a muzzle in public. WHAT WE WANT - Increase the sentence for owning a banned dog - in line with carrying a knife. - Extend the law to include dog attacks on private land - therefore protecting workers such as postmen and carers. - Increase the prison sentences for owners convicted of allowing their dog to attack humans. - Force all Staffordshire Bull Terriers to wear a muzzle in public. - Simplify the court process so that banned dogs can be destroyed immediately. SHOP A DOG AND WIN A MUG You can win yourself a free News Shopper mug by sending in a photo of a banned dog. All you need to do is email the image to [email protected] with your name, address, phone number and exact details of where you took the photo. Alternatively post them to Shop A Dog, News Shopper, Mega House, Crest View Drive, BR5 1BT. We'll pass on all the images to the police. Statistics from The NHS Information Centre From May 2010 to April 2011 there were 30 admissions to Greenwich Teaching PCT for people bitten or struck by a dog - up two from the previous year.
  17. Same sh*t, different day - sounds just about like where I walk my two. Can empathise completely! Incident a couple of weeks ago goes a bit like this; I'm walking our two Staffords along the road, could see the occupants of a house out in their front garden where I KNOW there are at least 3 white fluffies of some description living. Well, we're still about 100 metres away, and out charge the 3 fluffies, one in particular with teeth beared screaming merry bloody hell, flying towards us where I am now stood still in the middle of the road. I'm left with no choice other than to just walk on in the same direction as I was originally going, because if I turned around and walked away the little b*stards would have just given chase (from behind then) anyway. So I carry on walking, female owner of 3 fluffies comes running squealing at the dogs, frantically trying to pick them up. Must give my two their due though, they did exactly as they were told and carried on walking next to me. Bloody female owner was so panicky and stressed! I carried on and walked home, took my two inside and because this all took place only just down the road from where I live, I thought bugger this and went back to speak to owner. Had serious words with her and basically said that she ought to be controlling her dogs or if she couldn't don't let them out in the front yard (besides ANYTHING else, they were more in danger of being run down!), her response pretty much though was well your dogs are Staffies and they really scare me!! I was like - hello, who's dogs were running out of control, snarling, barking and trying to nip at my dogs ankles???? I can control my dogs - you obviously can't! Friggin' idiot. Anywho, it ended on good terms, because I specifically made a point of asking if she was ok because she seemed so shaken up by it (doesn't mean I think she was right, but I wanted to try and convey the 'good' side of the Staffords). But, like you, I'm so OVER it!
  18. See now this is the worry I have that this is gonna snowball into ridiculous-ness, as i mentioned on another thread. My two Staffords came with me from the UK, but I never got export pedigrees for them (didn't know i had to, to register them with cccq). It's gonna cost me at least $80 per dog to get them sent out from the UK Kennel Club, and then the rego with cccq. Happy to do this, MORE than happy to do it, and think I should be getting on with it just in case eh... Sorry if it sounds like hysteria, but I guess I am getting caught up in it... Like I said, ridiculous-ness!!!!!!!
  19. Well done Sumosmum, but who the hell is the tosspot in the dickie bow tie? Jesus Lord help us with people like him in authority
  20. He he he, my two are cheap by comparison then! Can honestly say neither of them have chewed, ripped up or otherwise destroyed anything inside or outside the house! Agree with Sandra in regard to budgeting for vet bills though, as they can be so slapdash, full pelt, smack bang wollop! One of mine fairly seriously damaged one of her eyes and it cost a fair bit to get put right. (p.s. Sandra hope your dog makes a full recovery mate xx).
  21. What on earth do you mean by "pit breeds" This entire post is just bizarre to me. People think their Amstaff is a SBT??? What do you mean by all this. Except the last bit agree that some people shouldn't own a pet at all Same questions from me too! Lol Don't quite get what this post is 'getting at'.
  22. Good news!!!! Just chased up Quarantine again, couldn't speak to the same guy, but was promised he would call back with an update. He has left a message to say my consignment has been released and posted out to me!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!! :D
  23. I swear by my Rose Lines. Bought some Santorini's the other day as a spare set (cheapo's admittedly) and I really can't get on with them. Gonna get me some more Witte Roselines
  24. If they believe that, then perhaps they ought get it's name right for a start....
  25. Really? Did you order from the ebay seller as well? I'm so naffed off lol!! Hopefully mine might have been released and posted, haven't heard anything to the contrary yet - and if I don't get it, I'll be calling them again!
