To help deter cockroaches from hiding in your cupboards, sprinkle cloves about. yep thats what i have on my shelves, bay leaves and cloves and no bugs
-
to keep weavils out of flour cereals etc just put dried bay leaves on your shelves and/or in the flour and the weavils will never come back.

i am beginning to wonder if some people are here just to stir the pot because no amount of sensible discussion makes any difference. legally until laws are broken nothing can be done. in order to know if laws are broken someone needs to see something happening and a sign on a fence just wont cut it in court, sorry to say. if people are that concerned, put your money where your mouth is, and go look at their setup because from what i have read here there is zero evidence that they are doing anything wrong. goodness help us all if this sort of kangaroo court happens in the real world.

someone has stripped the info from dol and the application that stripped the info didn't strip the formatting thats why its all mixed up. it is an interesting issue is whether you have a right to get them to remove the entries. i think there is a case to say the info on their web site will harm you both in brand reputation and in answering calls that are for the wrong breed etc. however i am not sure there is anything you can legally do about this. i know my business name was in lots of web sites and publications and there was nothing i could do because it was public information and i wasnt being charged for the "service"

Ok you tell me exatly what you think will change in your cost of living when labor and greens bring in the new climate change carbon taxes? Real life numbers.... i have no intention on wasting my time, do your own research. i work with those costs all the time and big businesses are not screaming that it is too expensive LOL so you don't have a clue or you do know )maybe have a vested finacial interest) and do not want to say how bad it will be. Well it is up to the blievers to prove thier point when billions of tax dollars and decreasing the standard of living for every person in the country is at stake. Yes big Business will just pass on the costs eh? Only a problem for the people who have to buy or use their products to survive. yes the sky is falling in, make sure nothing drops on your head

how is cody this morning? hope he is feeling better -
i should have been clearer, my dog always gets a reward but not just food. she gets pats or food or a play with a fav toy. i just want to make sure that she always recalls. i also have an emergency word which is "WAIT" and if i call this she stops dead in her tracks...no matter what she is doing and i go and collect her. her recall is now 100% and my daughter was watching her and took her for a walk and didnt do the collar up properly and jaxx got loose. well first off she didnt race away and secondly when she was called back she came back so she recalls for anyone who is in charge of her which i am very happy with. not so sure i was happy with the situation happening though eta txs aidan that is a great article. thats what i do but i didnt know i was doing it.

Getting Serious And Charging Appropriately
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to rocco's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
The people with cameras that are the targets here aren't either, mostly, I'd bet. yes when i raised an issue in this thread i was told it was cheap to set up as a photographer, now i am confused? -
Getting Serious And Charging Appropriately
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to rocco's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Tess the trouble is if you make photography and photographers too special then people wont learn from other businesses that have survived. there are business rules and processes that work for small businesses to make a profit, these rules apply to every business whether they take photos or they sell gizmos. -
Getting Serious And Charging Appropriately
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to rocco's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Not all, but most businesses are specialist. Not everyone can pick up a XYZ and suddenly start charging within that industry. Photography is one of the few businesses where you literally only need a minor amount of money to buy the equipment and you could start charging. Most other businesses/industries require a bigger amount of initial investment or specialist skills. yes i agree that people can hang out a shingle with few dollars in photography (and as mon said, other industries). i have a friend who is a professional photographer so i am on side i think the business skills are lacking not only in photography but in lots of small businesses. i have worked with businesses (large capital outlay) whose managers/owners dont realise that by providing x they are actually loosing money. they didnt know how much it cost them to provide the x to their customers. how on earth were they going to make any profit? i think education is also important. do the peak bodies assist by educating the public and providing pamphlets to explain why their members charge more than the flybynighters? -
Getting Serious And Charging Appropriately
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to rocco's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
this happens in every industry, part and parcel of running a business. prices are set by the market and we can only charge what the market will bear. price fixing is a big no no so businesses need to be very careful about this. however, it is only really a problem if there are a small number of suppliers who price fix, ie cardboard box manufacturers. i dont see how photography is any different from other businesses. i have owned and run my own business profitably for 15 years and i work in a very competative market space -
i taught both my kids how to shoot, hunt and fish. i figured if they were going to be around guns best they learn how to handle them properly. at one stage when i lived in the bush if i didnt catch and kill it i didnt eat. i have also been rabbiting using ferrets and pig hunting using dogs. i killed cleanly and ethically, more than i can say for some of the meat in the supermarkets. i surely will go to hell but at least i will have a full tummy when i am there oh btw, if any vegeterians wear leather shoes they may want to rethink this choice as well.

this bolded bit i think is critical. i never do this either and all visitors get told the same. my puppies are very calm when i want them to do things but can play and carry on like the best of them. all i say is one word and they calm down immediately, i trained them to do this, its sort of like an emergency word.

txs Mel i thought that was right but then i thought it may have been recinded. this was sorted a while ago here is the thread http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=201893 OP it might pay to do a search before posting.

Cesar Milan Discussion
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to pixie_meg's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
he has brought into joe blogs home the fact that dogs ned training and time outside of their garden...that has to be good. i do not like some of his methods i watched him almost choke one dog, i do not believe in the alpha roll, i do not believe that flooding achieves long term gains. so watched with discernment then he is ok...however joe blogs isnt a very discerning viewer and therfore likely to get into serious trouble if following cesar's footsteps  -
the laws in SA are that if a cat without a collar comes into my yard i can legally trap it and take it to the pound. if the cat has a collar then it must go back to its home which i have done. this procedure does not harm the cat. i contain my dog, i register her, i am a responsible dog owner. i have friends who have paid thousands of dollar to contain their cats because they are responsible cat owners. i want all cat owners to be responsible at their expense not mine. if my dog was wandering at large she would be caught and impounded, whats so wrong about doing this to a cat that enters my yard? Absolutely nothing wrong with this. You know the law and are following it. Cat owners in this situation have every opportunity to follow the law by containing their cats, as do dog owners. So, if you choose to have a cat, you choose to take on the responsibility of containing it. As I said, we all have the right and the responsibility to protect our pets and others' pets within the bounds of the law. However, currently cat containment is not the law everywhere. My only problem is in situations where cats are not required to be contained but are punished for leaving their yards, based on individual opinions. cats are not required to be contained in SA. trapping a cat and taking it to the pound is legal in most states if the cat enters your property and has no collar, ie it can be deemed to be feral. i trapped a cat the other day and i was appalled at its condition. it was an entire tom cat, flea bitten, scarred, thin and mangy, now THAT is cruelty and its adding to the feral cat population.
