  1. This little girl came in with her 7 1/2 year old mum today and the kitten was adopted by a volunteer and mum by someone that has been in everyday waiting for the right cat :) (the bunny is mine) I have been thinking of different fundraising ideas and one is offering the wall space to artists on commission as we are close to the city and the shop was a higher end eclectic furniture shop previously. I am also thinking maybe something completely different such as Memory Trees, we plant 100's of trees on our property (Trees for Life) and I was thinking of maybe having tree planting days where people adopt a tree for $15.00 as a memory for current or past pet and they would get home made damper etc for lunch and all profits go to the rescue group. The people would get to plant their own tree, I am just tossing around ideas at the moment. I am not a part of the group just a supporter
  2. We have been hosting fortnightly adoption shops since May 2012 but this is the first Stand alone. We are trying to get funding for a dual Cat Cafe/Rescue and city cat Boarding facility as the building is split level and 700sqm
  3. Black cats are notoriously hard to place so on in June we are holding a Friday the 13th black cat only Adoption night
  4. Many are hard to place older cats and it is great seeing 12 year olds get homes,in this situation people get to see how the react in a busy home type environment as they are not caged. People basically get mugged as soon as they sit down, there is an area that is for what people would consider farm cats, cats that may not be overly social but are friendly. These cats would normally be put down or over looked but they are fully vetted and many have been adopted. They even have a couple of FIV positive cats that are kept separate that will only go to inside only approved homes. Molly was taken to the vet two weeks ago with an injured leg, the xray showed necrosis and over 20 gun shot pellets so P&CA agreed to pay for the amputation and she was rehomed on Saturday, her vet bill alone was $500 and she was a fee waived cat :D Miss Molly
  5. Thanks, we have done well over 150 cats since Jan 1st and many are adults which is just fantastic, my foster cat Sammy the Scottish Fold was adopted on Saturday which caused a lot of tears but he has an awesome new family now this is their fb page if anyone is interested P&CA Inc They are on their way to pick up some purebred ragdoll kittens that are 9 weeks old so I am hanging out for cuddles, I think they are already spoken for by volunteers  This is my Sammykins, he is 7 years old and a pure bred Scottish Fold. His new owner sent an update and he is so well loved
  6. There has been over 60 adoptions in the first week
  7. Just cats and kittens DD, they do dogs as well but this is a feline only zone  The thing many people do not agree with is that the adult cats do not have an adoption fee, they are fully vetted and go through the normal adoption process and have a lifetime return policy. The kittens have fees but they also get a $100 store voucher from me next door and all kittens have a kitten pack supplied. We have people in there for hours letting the cats pick them and people just coming in for cat cuddle times. The cats are all so relaxed and healthy, many are long term RSPCA cats, all are rescues some pics
  8. I know many people may not agree with this and that is fine but I am awfully proud to have been the one that helped instigate this as I own P&K Pets and my FIL has donated the building for two weeks. Paws & Claws Adoptions is now registered with their Charity status and we are hoping to be able to get them support to make it a permanent thing.
  9. Agree completely. Remembering in Australia this is an unregistered, unrecognised breed so its value as a stud is nothing if the breed is not recognised until the work has been done to go through the processes. Then there is the question of FCI registration and breed quality as a stud so absolutely this could be exciting once the groundwork is established and yes the dog needs to go to someone that understand and values them for their capabilities. To assess the dog as a potential stud or a breed Ambassador remembering this is Foundation stock the assessment ideally would be done by an International judge that can assess appropriately, breeds can be badly damaged or diluted if inferior stock is chosen as Foundation studs. I have no doubt this is not a decision that will be taken lightly and if the new owner chooses to go down that path it will be a long expensive road but one if done properly will be well worth the effort. Specialised homes for specialised dogs are rare and in this case as I have said previously it is a stroke of good fortune for this dog that his current carer has sought out this Community to help find him the best home possible and it looks like that may have happened. I respect the OP for their dedication to the dog and wish them well and look forward to seeing the breed recognised and established here
  10. I'm not sure where I sit with the whole thing either way I know that there is no way in hell I would let my boy go anywhere undesexed and I will also be importing a LGD breed into Australia and no puppies if I ever have any will go without desexing contracts. The main issue I see is that DAS has sold a dog with a desexing contract and it has been stated on a public forum that that contract will not be honoured which can affect other dogs from being released in future. On a positive note it is fantastic that a breed savvy, experienced dog trainer will possibly be getting this dog as that is where he needs to be as it sounds like he has bounced enough which is certainly not good for any dog let alone one of his breed. Visually they don't do anything for me but they are very interesting as a breed Being the only one of his breed in Australia is not a reason to keep them entire, he needs to be a fantastic example of the breed in all facets of his type to make him a breed Ambassador and the new owner would need to put the hard work to get the breed recognised. Having the dog as a working dog is a different story as Nekhbet stated and if that is the reason to keep the dog entire I can understand that but the one only reason makes no sense to me unless bitches were being imported to compliment him. I know someone in the process of bringing a first of the breed over here now and this dog is a fantastic example of the breed and there are absolutely no plans to have pups which is why I will import my own. I have no doubt that he may be going where he needs to be and that is a huge positive and I am thrilled that he may get the opportunity to work and be trained how he deserves to be. The only thing that I can imagine my part European partner squeeing about is finding huge wads of money so imagining Nekhbet's friend doing that made me smile
  11. Check the rules, some states it is illegal to use them
  12. Mine were fighting while I was already taking pics, now I would drop the camera and jump in as Wolff is so much bigger than Azure and it wasn't fighting it was talking within seconds they were all over each other which is why this one is fuzzy
  13. Panto I haven't been able to get you and your lovely girl out of my mind, you are both so lucky to have each other and you are awesome for doing this for her

  15. Rubbing, notice the velvet has split and is hanging on his face (this is last year) and this years antlers, he rubbed 1 week ago Up until the day before he rubbed Charlie was a handle able animal, the day he rubs he turns into an uber aggressive killing machine that charges fences when he sees me. Once he moults this year he will be getting castrated
  16. Velvet is the antler while it is still covered in "velvet", it is soft as it is growing, it become antler once it has rubbed. Velvet can sell for $300 per kg due to the medicinal and health properties, most venison farmers harvest velvet because bucks can be so dangerous and hurt each other. Deer shed their antlers annually, once the antler has rubbed there are no longer blood vessels and they can be sawn off painlessly. I have been told that the deer are sedated while the velvet is removed and they do not suffer side effects but I am going to the farm to see This is my Charlie and what is considered velvet, this was taken 3 weeks ago
  17. Thanks S&F I am going to go up to the farm and try some for my two, Azure is uber fussy so if she likes them I will give them a go. Being softer and chewy she may like them and if they are good for them it is a bonus but yes price will be the determining factor
  18. Thanks, he is pretty awesome and so is Miss Azure she is one of the most attractive dogs I have met and her brain is finally connecting with her body  These are a month or so old when he was exploring our new house The luck dragon Found poo........must roll Scottsmum I get a bit nervous when I see her head in his mouth but most of the time it is his ears in her mouth
  19. I have been offered to be able to purchase large (or small) quantities of deer velvet from a grower/exporter, the antler before it goes hard and split so it has the amino acids, cartilage, some bone, meat etc what they use in Chinese Medicine. They would be sold as treats probably inch long and they have to be kept frozen. The velvet seems to have excellent health qualities and I am going to get it for my dogs but I was wondering what demand their would be. Does it seem like a good product? Deer Velvet
  20. He is an absolute sweetheart, Azure on the other hand is not at all tolerant to strangers. I call them my silverback and my cheetah, Azure stalks and outsmarts prey with mental and then physical prowess but can be subject to near misses. Wolff assesses with precision, gives physical cues and if the response is not as desired explodes with unparalled brute force. Wolff is the perfect dog for me, he keeps me mentally aware and is also good company. Azure and I are finally developing a deep bond too but it is different and I can finally say that I appreciate her for who and what she is. I spend my life thinking ahead and planning because I am a responsible LGD owner, I do not take any action lightly because I know there will be a reaction. I look ahead to see possible scenarios and try to prevent them from happening as I know what could happen and I also know what a reactive CAS is capable of. Jake was slightly reactionary, Wolff is more stable but that means when he reacts he does it with full force. For example if he sees what he perceives as a threat he will warn, then eliminate but he has great nerve and does not react prematurely and considers the risk before that reaction. Azure reacts without pause with noise and physical reaction, she has great agility and stamina and will waste/exert it in a situation. Wolff has strength and agility but delays reactions until required and so when he does bark I react. Wolff's behaviour is very purist in the way that CAS should be, this is probably the working lines that he comes from overseas. He is maturing much faster than Jake with his CAOdom and will be an absolute mountain of a guardian They are guardians but I am a custodian which is a huge responsibility, they have both thrown challenges at me which at times have been difficult (yes Wolff I am looking at you and your attention barking for 4 days) but we work through them and I have 2 amazing dogs that I treasure. It is a privilege to live with a dog such as Wolff having the ability to learn through watching simple or subtle cues and reactions, to see how primitive his reactions are. I am honoured to be their custodian and I am a proud advocate of his breed
  21. Wolff just turned 8 months and he is a BIG boy From this to this He has just decided that he isn't an old man but it actually a puppy so when he decides to play you hang onto the closest solid object
  22. The AFP bowls are fine and if you are worried do smaller regular feeds especially on hot days when water intake is higher Treat balls with kibble in it for meals times are good too to make him work for his food In these hot days I have been giving my scoffer his food in big frozen blocks such as frozen 1kg roo mince etc so he has to gnaw on it
