It depends who you're with. I'm with PetPlan and just received a letter for a recent claim this week for paperwork they received on 19 January! So they're not even acknowledging claims for about a month!!!! Once it's acknowledged it hasn't taken too long - a week or two (from experience previous claims). Other companies I've heard have been MUCH faster.

Fingers crossed!

Not in CCD. Once you're in novice, your dog has to. I think it's st00pid (not being able to in CCD), but thems the rules!

My Vet said usually it takes about 6 months. We did it for over a year, unfortunately didnt work for us but I don't think 2 months is long enough to tell. Sorry I should I have said 2 months minimum. He said it could take a lot longer than that.

I think he's doing great, Sas!

How early have people seen a difference on an immunotherapy program? The vet said it could take up to 2 months, but I wonder how early it can start taking effect. Jedi is day 19 and his itchiness scores seem to be dropping?

Does Desexing Affect Drive?
TerraNik replied to Red Fox's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Jedi went from relatively no food drive to a really high food drive. He was a completely different dog - for the better! This happened within a week of desexing. -
Great to hear, Erny!

They would've had a great time!!!!

I'm not at home, but I just had reports from my OH that Ahsoka is in the backyard in the pouring rain. Jedi of course, is inside.

Thanks for the hints. I had read that article from SG... thanks for reminding me about it! The only concern I have is that if I interrupt her stays when she vocalises she'll find it rewarding because she gets to move! Kind of a catch 22. Ness is right though - I doubt she'd shut down. They were bred to bark while working so it's hard.

Terranik your kids are doing really really well and I really hope you get Jedi's allergy problems sorted. Having an allergy kid myself I know what you are going through. I am now 3 years into the densensitization program and we are doing OK - although I have just discovered another food that she is allergic to and I am now trying to sort out her red chest and belly. You need to slow your left about turns down and perhaps put in an extra step as you wizz around and lose them. I would be looking at playing the hansel and gretel game where you reward them for finding heel and throw the food to force them out of heel and then C/T once they find heel again. With Ahsoka - in the recall when you left the dog - you will notice that the dog was very distracted and kept looking from side to side. I have this issue with Beans and have started going back and rewarding more often - clicking and throwing food so she is now more focused on me when I leave her. Keep up the great work. Thanks... I know, the left turns are horrrrrrid and it's something that I'm working on with them, particularly Jedi. I used to do the hansel and gretel game - I'll have to get back into it! It's one of Ahsoka's favourite games. Thanks for the tips with Ahsoka -- her focus is a bit shoddy in general! Hopefully now that I am putting in more time with her it'll get better. And as you can see we have a vocalising issue She's never done that while heeling before, but often 'whinges' (quiet whining) while doing stays! Almost as if she's saying, "come onn! Let's go doooo something!" Any tips for that?! I don't want to put her in a trialing ring until she's quiet during stays - that's my biggest issue with her (and wiggle bum SFE's - but they are getting much better). She's the type of dog that doesn't like to be stationary for too long!

Where Do You Get Your Clicker From?
TerraNik replied to Rainy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah don't let it off near your ear!! Done that! It wasn't pretty! -
Loving everyone's videos! Beans and Alex look great!!!!!!! I got Shell to video Ahsoka and Jedi doing some heelwork on Monday night. I haven't done anything with Jedi since our last trial in October so it was nice to see where we are at. He's Day 16 with his immunotherapy so he's still itchy as all hell but at least he can function now. Ahsoka is a work in progress... I have been SO slack! Jedi - Ahsoka -

I didn't find them too hard to follow... You do get to 'walk the course' for a little while before you have to do it with your dog, so that makes it easier! Similar to agility.
-
I have some videos of Jedi and I doing some courses at the Sydney Rally-O course Angelsun ran... That might give you a better idea. Our second time (scored 94 - shows a retry) - Our third time with our best score of 99/100 -

I'll be going with my girl! Eight Lappies entered which is a huge improvement from last year's two entered!

My vet told me that Jedi was a lovely weight and I told her he was too fat! She clarified her statement after that by saying that he was lovely compared to the dogs she usually sees in her clinic! Mind you, he was only 1kg overweight (by my standards).
-
I always make a comment when I see a GR or lab that isn't fat! One of admiration of how healthy the dog looks! Forget about people that want to make comments - I agree with the others on here - people are used to seeing fat dogs! If my two dogs didn't have so much fur, I'm sure I would get comments on how skinny they are!!
-
I would say that Jedi is happier on pred but that's because he's not itching 99% of his awake time!! He is much more active and playful, but again I think that's due to not being itchy than the medication itself. Aside from drooling and an increased appetite (though he actually lost weight on it - we had to double his food intake to stabilise his weight!) he has no other side effects from prednisolone. We've been really lucky.

I love the creative interpretations of the words!!! Really great work everyone!

Where Do You Get Your Clicker From?
TerraNik replied to Rainy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I used to use the blackdog iClick, but I don't like them... They're too soft. So I use the Triple Crown clicker - it's much louder. I just buy them from online stores when I order things. Like Ptolomy I lose mine all the time! -
I just realised I have a brag!! Ahsoka (aka Miss Wiggle Bum) did her first proper SFE tonight!!! She didn't move a hair! She's 19 months and finally a glimmer of hope that she'll be able to suppress the Black Wiggle gene (we blame her great grandfather - the original Black Wiggle!) - I was starting to think we'd never get there!

Jedi is my heart dog... He knows me... As if he's reading my mind. We just have this connection that I have never felt with another animal before... I start bawling as soon as I think about not having him in my life... Like now... Anyone got a tissue?
