What sort of camera bag are you looking for? THESE are awesome! Do you have any post processing programs? Lightroom is awesome and of course Photoshop.

Thanks Guys, totally different for me to what I usually take pictures of, I would have loved number two more If I could have been back further but there was a fence in the way and the grass was super long.

I don't think you can really compare the D7000 to the who set up of the other camera, they are really in different leagues. I don't think there is a need for an extra battery right off the bat unless you plan on shooting non stop for a while, Battery can always be charged up over night. I think by memory the D7000 has two memory card slots which would be handy depending on how your shooting, (Raw to one card, Jpeg to another etc) I think you have the option to set it up however you like. As far as memory cards to the higher the class the better with these sort of camera, otherwise there can be buffering/writing issues which is a pain in the butt. A little OT but for anyone reading here what class memory cards do you use? CC what sort of CF do you use in your 7D, I have to buy new memory (CF) when I get the 7D as all my other cameras have used SD cards, I recently bought 2 class 10 SanDisk Extreme SD cards from Costco for $54 for the two of them, Dick Smith has one for the same price.

There really is a significant difference in the weight of the f4 compared with the f2.8.
-
Image stabilization. Nikons equivalent speak is VR which I think stands for vibration reduction.
-
Snook, do Nikon only have one 70 - 200? Did you get this? And is it f2.8? I just wondered how heavy it is? There is a big diff between the f4 and the f2.8 in the canon 70 -200. I was only going to get the non IS as I will probly use it mostly for action etc but then decided for the extra couple of hunger bucks I'd be better off with the IS model. I shouldnt be in this thread, I don't wanna be tempted to go back to Nikon. I do think if I had a bigger budget I would have stuck with Nikon, but it is what it is. So I'll try to stick to my guns! Love all this new camera talk!

I know nothing about the entry level Canons, someone else might be able to help out with that one, or possibly it would be in the specs on the canon website for each camera. HERE is a comparison between the Nikon D7000 and the Canon 7D
-
Before the D800 is the D700 and the D300, the D7000 is classed in the semi pro range as far as I know but that is contradicting my earlier post about the 4 numbered Nikons being entry level, the D7000 is not entry level. When I was deciding on which way to go my choice was either the D7000 or the Canon 7D. They are reasonable comparable in specs and price.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but with the Nikons, the 4 numbered cameras such as 3200, 5100 etc are classed as entry level, then the 2 numbered ones such as D80, D90 etc are semi pro then you go up into the pro range where you have the 3 numbers cameras, D300, D700, D800 and the one numbered camera, D3, D4 etc anything above the 4 numbered cameras has the autofocus. I could be wrong but thats how i think it works? I used to have a Nikon D80 but wanted to upgrade and after doing a lot of research am jumping ship to Canon and going with the 7D body only and adding a 50mm (still haven't decided if it will be 1.4 or 1.8 yet) and also the 70 - 200 L F4 IS I love to shoot dog portraits and also action so for now those two lenses will be sufficient for my needs, then a 24 - 70mm will be on my wish list in the future. I haven't got my camera yet and am just shooting with a Canon G1X which so far has been awesome, these a couple of shots in the thread called Experimental if you want to check them out. It sure is mind boggling when stating out, I was lucky enough to start off with the D80 which I think served me well for a few years but It was time for something new for me. I lost my mojo for a long time but I think it is back!!

Nifty 50 thread!!
-
Lots of snapping going on in here!
-
Snap Tess! And Snook! I paid about $300 for the course I did it was cert 3 in visual arts.
-
Good advice above! I'll add my 5c worth, for the price of the 50mm 1.8 (around $150) why not get one and have a play. When I had my Nikon D80 I used the 50mm most of the time, it hardly ever came off the camera. I loved it. Have you had a look at the thread here dedicated to that lens? Not to go against what Tess has said about the action shots with the 50mm as she is right they are probly better suited to stationary subjects but AI have taken a few good action shots with mine but you need to be at the right distance to the action as it is a prime lens so no zoom at all. A course is a great idea, I had the basics but did a course at Tafe, it was good lots of info about using the camera in manual and understanding what everything means and they also added basic photoshop. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I love the colors in that shot too, it's funny how each of the last 3 has a totally different feel to it even though it's the same photo.
-
What's the brief for next week? I should have clicked with the white lens. Derrr
-
I liked the one they picked the best too and I think the girl who shot it was the least confident. What was the camera? I must have missed it at the start, I thought it looked like a Canon but couldn't be sure.

Who's watching? It's just started here.
-
Oh thanks I'll check it out!

Some great books HERE if your interested.
-
Sounds like you got a bargain.

Thanks for the feedback, Number 2 is my favourite as well. I have a problem with my editing, as you can see with the last 3, slightly different crops but exactly the same photo, and I cannot decide which one I like. I do it all the time. I need to just make a decision and stick to it. But I guess for the purpose of this excercise I am having a play with different editing styles its ok. Its amazing how you can edit one photo and this the same style might suit something else and when you do it you think thats awful!
-
Thats great, make sure you post some pics once you've had a play.

Nice shots, lovely light especially in the first one.
