  1. Can't believe only one other person, in 15 pages has put this breed at the top of the list on looks..... Shetland Sheepdog Shetland Sheepdog Shetland Sheepdog Shetland Sheepdog Shetland Sheepdog sorry - had to do that..... but if you wanted me to name another good looking breed..... Bernese GSP
  2. I don't think there are a lot within the Onkaparinga council area - but O'Sullivans beach is off lead all year round and nice. I'm wary of letting dogs off lead in the parks - like Onkaparinga Gorge and so on, (apart from not knowing if dogs are allowed off lead) as they bait for foxes in the area and also spray for weeds.
  3. Is there a reason (apart from the giant workload).... why dogs competing at Crufts aren't vet checked first before they enter the ring? Surely it would make sense to have the dog DQed at the start. I would have thought, publicity wise, that this would have been better for the KC.
  4. wonder what Rommy would do if I got the sheep fleece out of the shed and brought it and the spinning wheel inside?? Its that herding instinct  .... Georgia must be wondering where the rest of the flock is and why can't she chase it around.
  5. Can you help educate me? What is a 'grey import'? http://en.wikipedia....iki/Grey_market - this explains grey market, the warranty may be invalid with the compony if you purchase grey market eg Canon so you would need to purchase warranty on top of the camera. Another 2 shops I like http://www.digitalca...rehouse.com.au/ (not grey market) and in USA http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ - great with the exchange rate now THank you! informative. I tried to take basketball photos last night in a gym that isn't the best. Used my Canon EOS 400D with the 18-200mm IS lens (iso 1600). Not up for the job really. I put the 1.8 50mm on for a few shots, but whilst the exposure was better, it was hard to get a good shot with the depth of field. You had to be spot on. Really do need to upgrade. Am thinking the 7D with the 2.8 70-200mm sigma lens (can't really afford the canon one). All interesting. No money of course, will have to save hard.

  7. The 3 to an A4 page is the correct (official) size. However there is not an entry form available that contains the correct information as required by the ANKC Regulations Part 8 6.2. I know because I having been trying to update the current form for use by my members. If there are any geniuses in MS Word formatting out there, I could certainly use your help. Graham Here is a link to a word formatted one that I use in SA. The SA form has been changing over in the last couple of years. This one is the one that was in the last DogsSA journal. I still have a book of older style entry forms, so I suspect that they will get both lots at shows for a while yet. Entry form link edited for clarity It is in both word and publisher formal. I also don't think there is any way you would get 3 of these on an A4 page.....
  8. another suggestion for the bonnie - go the adult complete and not the working dog one. I feed raw, but my girl does ok on this - and better than on advance....
  9. update.... just had an excitied phone call from friends to say they are on the way home with their puppy - poodle-maltese. I tried..... They did, however, not buy from a pet store, asked the 'breeder" - who has 25 years experience apparently lots of questions. (I had given them a long list of things to ask when looking for a purebred puppy) They were impressed with her answers and loved the set up at her property. I hadn't had the chance to show them how to go over a puppy and check its conformation - pity. Haven't seen him yet, but suspect I will in the next few days. Baby steps......
  10. my girl gets washed about every second or third week when we are showing. Some weeks she only gets her whites (feet mainly) washed. Unless of course, she has decided to roll in something nasty - then she gets washed as needed. If she is starting to 'blow' her coat, and I want to get her through a few more weeks to make it to a show coming up - I won't wash her at all and I keep the brushing down to a minimum. I will get a towel and dampen it with warm water and rub her with it before a show instead of a full bath to freshen her up. "Sheltie Talk" is also a good book to refer to - especially about general health etc. You would need to get an older addition. They are currently updating it and doing it in two parts. Unfortunately, the show grooming and breeding part hasn't been done yet. Still waiting on this one. Head into the sheltie thread in the breeder subforums in General - you might pick up some more tips in there from people more experienced than me. Someone might be able to point you towards a sheltie person in NSW who may be able to help you too. edited to add - I agree with EF - picture please.....
  11. breed standard in my breed says full dentition - major fault if not. I know one breeder who will pet home anything without full dentition, no matter how outstanding it is, others don't care and their dogs with missing teeth have gone on to get their title. Obviously not all judges check, or don't care.
  12. Welcome to showing!!! The whitening shampoo from push puppy is good for the whites - including her collar. Assume she is a sable? As others have said, check what her previous owner used as a collar and lead to show her on. Most sheltie people here use a linked chain and lead. You need either a jeweller's link chain or a snake chain (two different types) as they don't snag or get caught on sheltie fur. See if you can find a sheltie person in NSW to show you how to groom - line brushing is something you should learn. The absolute basics for grooming a sheltie at a show (assuming you've done a lot of the work at home...) A comb (metal teeth) A pin brush A nylon and boar bristle brush (good quality) A nit comb (really fine toothed headlice comb) for the fur behind her ears. A spray bottle of water (you always brush a sheltie with a slightly damp coat) Best book I have seen for grooming a sheltie is "The Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming" - you can pick one up online fairly cheaply and is still readily available and definitely worth it.
  13. I think Hesapandabear should be in later with her news today..... last litter of the month I would say. Would be interesting on their papers and saying how old they are at shows. Be like the girl I know who is having her fourth birthday today....
  14. I am so so very sorry for your loss MM. Big hugs to you.
  15. Corgi or a sheltie (from the right breeder.... lots of friendly, easy going shelties around now but a couple of breeders still have some 'nervous' ones) Sheltie coat is very easy to manage - so much easier than people think. Only shed once a year if they get a boy - or a girl that they desex.... Family orientated, good with kids, loyal, easy to train, intelligent. eta: - also very 'pretty' and 'fluffy' which I think were two of the original requirements....
  16. THinking of you Lyndsay. Tried to send you a PM but it says I can't.... When you're feeling up to it I would like to compare notes.
  17. sorry mini girl - I posted in the "litters due in feb" thread. No success here. Puppies delivered dead by caesarean on due date. When I get pathology results back, will post about the whole experience. May be helpful for others.
  18. There is an aspect to training of course, that you learning as well, and perhaps it is good for you to drop back a class so that you are learning what to do. (If you are a beginner too.) even in the one club, there can be lots of different training styles. I got really frustrated at mine when the instructor at our level was changed. Didn't like the style of the new instructor at all.
  19. Thanks for the thread An interesting read as this tablet has been recommended for dogs with ivermectin sensitivity..... hmmmm.....
  20. Thank you.... as last time - not making a fuss or anything. Sent off fluid and tissue samples for testing. Hopefully some answers. Won't be breeding her, but would be nice to know what is going on. Am enjoying seeing the puppy photos. Congratulations everyone. 13!!!! wow! Underfoot - I hope you get some sleep over the next few weeks.
  21. In people, the difference between an intolerance and an allergy is pretty easy to tell apart. With, say for example, a food allergy - even a tiny bit of the thing you are allergic to will cause a reaction. With a food intolerance, you can eat the thing you are intolerant to, until your body reaches your threshold. When you cross that threshold, you will have a reaction. sometimes your threshold for something is low, sometimes it is high.
  22. Sounds familiar to me..... My girl's "allergies" cleared up on a good diet and no C5 vaccination annually. I looked back over my records and low and behold, two months after her annual vaccination, she would be back at the vet with really really itchy skin. Because this time of year coincided with hayfever season, vet put it down to this. I was reading up on stuff, decided not to annually vaccinate and not have the C5, problems cleared up almost completely. I titre test now - her immunity levels are at the highest level they can be classed at. Worth looking into I reckon if you are lost for answers.
  23. I wasn't sure where to post this and didn't want to start a new topic.... My girl has begun nesting - pulling her toys onto her bed with her and licking them and looking after them. Last time it lasted about 2 weeks. Anyone know how long I might expect this to go on?
