  1. My GSD gets two a day, plus kangaroo meat and veggies at night. Depends in the individual dog, but I would say a half frame would be about right. Are you saying that she gets 2 handfuls of dry food, a chicken neck, half a frame and some dog roll each day? Sounds like quite a lot for a little dog.
  2. Do you know if he is good with other dogs and cats? Oops sorry just saw he has been outside with a mastif
  3. I've always found it interesting that a lot of Working line GSDs seem to be sable/black. Yet you don't see many of these colours as pets. Don't have any scientific reasons, just an interesting observation.
  4. Can't vote . It tells me I have to vote in each question, but I can't vote in question 2 as I have insurance.
  5. My GSD,s were up when i picked her up at 10 weeks. They went a little floppy around the 3 month mark but have been up since then. BTW just have to say Bianca cooper is gorgeous!!! Not that I'm biased about black GSDs
  6. Well good news! Mica does not have HD. Apparently she has slight arthritic changes in her hips but nothing to concerning. The vet said she has better hips than she expected!! She has obviously had a fall or knocked herself during the day as there is some inflammation probably causing the pain. She was soo much better this morning. She is now on anti inflams and pain killers for a couple of days with restricted exercise. We will then see what treatment such as physio etc she needs. Thank you all for your advice and help!
  7. Thanks for everyone's replies. I have taken everything on Board and had a good think. I have decided to get her xrayed. I decided this as she has had a couple of rear end injuries, back and leg or so I thought, so want to rule out any underlying cause other than her just being clumsy and injury prone. She has some muscle wastage in her right rear thigh also. The vet is going to X-ray her lower back, hips and possibly her leg if they find nothing. I did discuss this with my vet this morning, she assures me she has experience in doing hips and is confident in doing it. Having said that she is happy to send of any X-rays to a specialist to have a look. Either way I will find out this afternoon an go from there. Again thank you for your replies and help!
  8. A few working kelpie breeders round here start their young ones on ducks before they go to sheep. Is that different with BC's? They also start them as pups, probably 12 weeks old in small pens.
  9. Ok am having a rethink. I might scrap the X-ray tomorrow and give David a call. I can always X-ray at a later date if need be. I guess what worries me is that she hurt her back and then her leg, both separate incidents. Both times I took her to David, so neither injuries where backed up by X-rays etc. I am worried that now she is sore again that maybe she does have an underlying issue like HD. How much can he really tell just by feel? I guess that is why I was looking at having X-rays done this time. Maybe this is a completely unrelated incident and she is just accident prone. She does tend to run fast and throw herself around.
  10. I have taken her to him before for her back. He was very good. He did check her hips then and said he couldn't feel anything wrong with them? I would love to take her to see a Bowen therapist and try that. I worry a little with chiro how they crunch so much.
  11. I would be really interested in looking at Bowen or something first. I just feel like it is something else, the way she randomly yelps. Would it not be good to X-ray her hips as well to rule that out though? Does anyone know of any Bowen therapists or muscle people in NE Vic? I'm near wangarratta.
  12. Hi guys, I dont often post in here but am after some advice and wisdom from some GSD people. When I came home from work this afternoon, something was wrong with Mica. I let her out of the backyard as normal and she tried to run out to see me but yelped in pain. She scrurried over to me with her tail between her lags and was sort of shaking. This happened a couple of times and she was reluctant to move anywhere. She just kept rubbing up to me like she wanted me to pick her up, the big dummy. I took her inside, she lay down, then yelped again when she tried to get up. She seemed quite ditressed and far from her normal self. I felt her all over and couldnt find any obvious sore spots nore was she limping. I took her to the vet (she couldnt get into the car, though she tried, I had to lift her in) The vet immeditaley suspected something was wrong with her hips. I did explain that she was 5 and hadnt had any obvious issues with her hips before. She had put her back out before and has seen a chrio, but he didnt think she had a problemn with her hips. The vet felt her all over, she did seem sore in her front elbow, though to me it looked lower down. But otherwise there was no pain response anywhere. She said that her back legs didnt extend out far enough behind and she supsepcted HD The vet is pretty convinced she has hip problems and she is booked in for Xrays tomorrow. She was given some painkillers until then. She seems fine now, but every now and then she yelps again, she did it again while trying to stand and just before i leaned over her from behind and rubbed the front of her back legs (she likes this!) but it caused her to yelp again. I wasnt anywhere near her hips, nor putting pressure on them Does any oner here have any experience with HD and does what Ive described fit the bill? Im prepared to deal with HD if that is waht it is, but I am concerned that something else has happned and they may overlook it as they are already convinced its her hips. It seems more like an injury to me??? Oh she was fine this morning and running around like her normal loony self, no sign of any discomfort. sorry this is soo long, just trying to get all the facts down. Thanks
  13. She works there, the female vet nurse at the front desk.
  14. Now normaly I don't really put much stock in 'bondi vet' but last nights episode was set in my town at my vet clinic. My poor Neighbour tried so hard not to be filmed but she failed badly! Andrew is my GSDs vet.
  15. I am legend. Love the bond he has with his GSD Of course it makes me cry every time!
  16. Would a year old foxie be any good at hunting wallabies? I would think they would stand a good chance of getting hurt. Seems strange choice of dog to me lol.
  17. Yep good on the SES they do a good job. What was the dog doing hunting wallaby??
  18. Are Pet Plan keeping the 100%? It's bloody cheeky, uping premiums and lowering your cover!
  19. I don't think anyone is comparing horses and dogs as similar, just pointing out the unfairness of people's attitudes in regards to the two species. For example - Two weeks ago I was working with my two year old Arabian. I was teaching him to yield his front end. He had a freak out moment, reared up and come down so quickly I didn't have time to get out of the way. As I was standing so close to him his hoof struck the top of my head. I had to go to hospital and have stitches. At no point did anyone blame the horse, or suggest I get rid of him or put him down. Everyone just accepted he was an animal and unexpected things can happen ( or I was just an idiot asking to much of him!) However if I was a 5 year old child who walked up behind an old dog, stood on his tail, the dog lashed out in fear/pain/surprise and bit me in the face requiring me to go to hospital and have stitches. THis would probably end up from page news as a 'mauling' and the dog would be put down. Why can't we have the same consideration we have for one species of animal and not the other. They are both animals, will react like animals and accidents will happen when we interact with them.
  20. I just put in a claim a month ago with PIA and they still paid the 100%. I will be mighty peeved if they have now changed my cover. I will be going elsewhere which is a shame as they have been brilliant to deal with.
  21. Mica will not let me have a shower with the door shut. Our door won't latch properly and if you try and close the door, she will come ip the hallway and barge it open. She won't come in mind you. It just has to be open. If you go and close it again, she will open it. Once I tested how long she would persist. I shut the door 6 times during one shower. As soon as she heard the door shut, up she would come and barge it back open. Eventually she sat outside the door guarding it! I have to put he outside if we have guests staying and they want a shower lol!
  22. Oh no, I was so sad to see the title of this thread. I know you don't know me, but I have enjoyed watching photos of the Grotty over the years. His amazing faces and Quasimodo impersonations always had me laughing. He seems like such a gorgeous character! I'm so sorry for your loss. Give the beautiful Falco a big hug. My thoughts are with you and your family. Run free Till xxx
  23. Zuri I'm sorry but I think it a little naive to think that no ANKC breed could ever be targeted. History proves this wrong. It has already happened with the GSD. Not something I am keen to ever see again. So forgive me if I don't just sit back and say it will never happen to my breed so why care.
  24. Yep! Agree bit sad with what's going on that we are here discussing what ' breeds' we are afraid of and what breeds are genetically aggressive. Way to help the govt. What happened to blame the deed!
  25. Dont know why you have to bring prongs and protection training into a thread started by someone who wanted to know about a distance LLW program? I Beleive that Skye had stated that she is happy with the program and is seeing results. Why would she need to go to another trainer if this one is working for her? Anyway results speak for themselves, I as well as others have used these distance programs and have achieved fantastic results. Speaks for itself yes?? Oh and Joe no one has said that seeing a trainer one on one wouldn't be the preferred option. Sometimes some of us dont have access to local trainers (I for one live an hour away from the nearest accessible trainer) and sometimes Steves on line help is far superior to available trainers.
