  1. Hi Erny, I dont know if I can help much but can surely symapthise! I have to give my GSD eye drops every second day, which she hated. Like you I was on my own and quickly discivered that I was about 2 hands short to be able to do the job. I needed 2 hands to hold her still, one to prise her eye open and one to administer the drops! I tried backing into a corner, waiting till she was lying down etc. Nope she was strong and quick. In the end I ended up getting her a wide big collar to wear very loosely. I would sit her in the corner of the kitchen so she coldnt back up. I would then loop one arm under the collar up to my elbow, sort of near her shoulder so as not to strangle her and used that arm as leverage to hold her. I could then use the hand of said arm to be my eye prising open arm and the other arm could be used to andminster the drops. It did rely on me being able to hold her with one arm which I am not sure you could do with your dog as he is bigger than Mica (she is 33kg). She did quickly discover that with my arm up under her collar she couldnt get away. She will now let me adminster the drugs albeit reluctanlty with the just getting her to sit and putting them in. No restraint required. Not sure if this will help you at all though, especialy if he is sensitive to collars. In fact I am not sure if your issue is that you cant old him or you need more than 2 hands to do the job! Good luck :D
  2. Shelle I get mine from Mega Pet Warehouse in Ringwood. Dont know where you are located though
  3. Kangaroo tails are drool worthy in this household
  4. I too have a very high energy GSD. She has been quite a handful and difficult for me to train, she just doesnt stop. All she wants to do is go go go, chase chase chase! Unfortunately I dont have access to a schutzhund club in my area and the 'traditional' training on offer here just didnt suit. As others have said, use this behaviour to your advantage. Look into training in drive, my girl is loving it and it has really helped to redirect and give her an outlet for her drive to chase things.
  5. I am with Pet Insurance Australia. I have made one claim that went through no problems. very happy with them
  6. Just read the news email. Love the ideas. 'Wall of Fame' ??? change that to 'Wall of Shame' and me and my girl may stand a chance
  7. I am no expert on crate training. God knows my dog needs some work in this area, however for what its worth.. Where is the crate located? Do you have it in your room so the puppy is close to you? Is he warm enough etc? Also could you perhaps set your alarm to wake up just before he normaly wakes up crying, take him out to toilet without making a fuss or talking to him. Then put him back in his crate. leave him, even if he cries, hard though that is. He needs to learn to settle and at the moment he is getting attention as soon as he wakes and gets to play. He is learning that crying = play time.
  8. hee hee I have been eyeballing that long line as well Unofurtnately I have a dog that needs to see an eye specialist and a horse with sore feet. Vet bills come first

  12. My girl is on a Raw diet. Occasionaly I have had to give her kibble if we are away or if I was lazy and hadnt made her vegies up I have to disguise the kibble with egg and yoghurt or she wont really eat it. She may pick at it but thats all.
  13. Very cute Why the angry face?
  14. Can I jump in and ask a question here. I have a GSD who will bark a lot if there is something like an animal around. However the fool doesn't bark when someone comes over, or a car pulls up in the driveway. I live alone on a property and while I don't feel nervous about it, or think that I am ever going to have any problems, I would like to teach her to bark on command. I wouldn't use her to protect me in any way or expect her to, but I would like it if I could get her to bark say if someone was outside that I didn't know or something. At the moment she just squeals with excitement if someone comes over What would be a good way to go about it? Should I wait until she barks, then give a command and reward each time she does it? How do you teach them then to stop barking as that may be an issue once I get her to bark
  15. We have declared 'Safer Place' houses and such like to go to in emergency situations (fire etc) in our area. No pets are allowed in these. I wouldn't be leaving my dog and going to an emergency shelter without her. My mum said she wouldn't leave her cat either.
  16. I teach tug to my girl. I also teach her to only tug on command and to out the tug on command. The reason I teach commands is for control of the game. As Vickie said - 'if I didn't control it a bit, I would have holes all through my hands'. Before we got some control into her game of tug it was pretty alarming and painful. We ended many a session with bloody hands, to the point I had to wear gloves. By adding control we have eliminated this, but she still gets the reward of a game of tug. I also teach her to only tug on command. Mica will only tug on her toy when I say she can. I can walk around her quite happily with her tug toy in my hand, wave it around her face etc. Unless I give her the command to work, she wont even react to it. It is a dead toy so to speak. This adds an elemant of safety and control in that even if a child was in my backyard and playing with her tug toy, she knows not to touch it. She doesnt even get excited at the sight of it without a command.
  17. Not leave them in the front yard even when supervised [we're not sure whether or not they were fully contained (were her dogs totally enclosed?) - as the reporting differs] because even when they're supervised, "dogs will be dogs" and the smaller dog will be the victim. So where does the small dog owners repsonsibilty lie in your eyes? Is it the big dog owners fault because they didnt prevent the small dog getting into their yard?
  18. Maybe he is expanding and going to have other trainers working with him?? Maybe Erny has finally gotten sick of Victoria and its Draconian laws and is moving north to work with Steve
  19. He's already got the widescreen so chances are you already have been :) Ive been widescreened too, and then sent the still images of it Its only a matter of time till you get to experience it as well Secretkei
  20. Mum to Emma What was a Rotty and RB cross doing loose in her front yard anyway? How do you know they were loose in her front yard? The report says the Foxie got in under her fence. The owners of big dogs (irrespective of breed) should appreciate this and take appropriate care to avoid a situation as happened today (ie the small dog died). The owner of these big dogs had them in her yard and the little dog got in under the fence. How in all of this do you get that she didnt 'take appropriate care to avoid a situation as happened today' as you put it? BTW "Her other injuries [aside from the scratches on her face] included crushed fingers on both hands and a deep gouge to her leg." The last of these would no doubt have been the result of her own dogs' actions. But she's not going to admit to that, is she? You know this how?
  21. He didn't say anything about NOT buying Camp Tailwaggers and moving up here now, did He mmmmm Yep - I noticed that too ;) . He did just say that he isnt going anywhere though ;) Has to be more than a name change. Maybe Steve is giving up dog training and moving onto cats. Hence no more K9force - catforce.net???
  22. ;) Nope not allowed. He has to finish help me train my dog first ;)
