  1. No such thing as untrainable. Your instructor sounds like a bit of dill and not really experienced with dogs in general. All dogs can be trained to one level or another.
  2. carrots? Steamed, raw, chopped, diced, whatever suits you
  3. One cause might be strangers but another might be his eyesight. have you had it checked?
  4. Not that I don't think Sophie is amazing, but I do think it has a lot to do with who is at the other end of the leash!
  5. Because it's nummy of course. Dogs will eat coarse grass - the stick spinefex type - if they are feeling unwell - it helps them to vomit. Otherwise they just like to eat grass ocassionally because the grass is quite sweet.
  6. Does it make the "output" easier to pick up or does it just float away? Don't know, but I do think it makes it more absorbent!
  7. Haven't you heard about the cotton wool diet? Admittedly - I hear it's fluffy
  8. You didn't just ask that did you?
  9. Without reading the other posts (so I may repeat something someone has said) I teach recall by making myself the centre of the dogs universe. Food comes from me, walks, cuddles, punishment, rules, direction, affection and all the rest. This along with structured obedience type recall means that my dogs come to me when I call. If I am unsure, I don't unclip the lead.
  10. I'm switching to orijen so I don't support PP who sell EVO. I am also switching to it because I it seems a good food from my research. I'm switching to it because the food I want is not available in this country. I did feed pro plan until they changed the formula and it gave my dogs the runs. I fed it successfully for 5-6 years before this happened. It happened to all the dogs at the same time so I put it down to the food. Feed what suits you Ian, but don't assume the rest of us are idiots. FYI - I tried EP - didn't work. Tried Nutrience holistic - didn't work. Tried RC - worked OK. I think the orijen fish is very similar to the OS food I am waiting for but once again, I await 4paws information as to when it will become available so that I can try it.
  11. There's a vet clinic, I can't for the life of me remember which one it is (it's in melbourne near Malvern) which has a specialist vet who deals with orthopedic problems specifically. Someone may know who I am talking about. Older gentleman. Only works intermittently. It is a proper vet hospital (run much like the emergency clinics but it a normal vet hospital).
  12. he was boarded last tues and wed and showed symptoms this wed and thurs - so a week
  13. I dont think that shmoo meant anything more by his comments than letting the kennel know which I will tell my parents to do.
  14. Not to be a harbinger of doom but weight loss can be the sign of a tumor - i would be off to the vet for blood tests asap were it me.
  15. Just in my opinion, but I think you need to let a new dog settle in - give them a week or two before you really start to have any expectations. Naturally set the rules immediately, but give them time to get over the shock of it all.
  16. My parents dog stayed at a kennel in Keysborough for 2 days - he is now very sick with KC. He is on antibiotics, cough syrup and he had two injections of what I assume were antibiotics. He was vomiting quite severely as well. My dogs are under quarantine now (I found out today) and I should see symptoms if there are any by tomorrow.
  17. Is there anywhere where there is a list of vegetables that can be used in raw food and their benefits and potential side effects? I am feeling a little limited by the range of veg I am using.
  18. Do what I do. Get the vet to write a script and go to Chemist Warehouse and get the medication
  19. I know a guy who did this with a 40kg plus shepherd. He bought an old greyhound treadmill for the dog and it has lived a long and happy life without the head of the femur - both hind legs!! he just walked funny.
