  1. The sussest part to me is the rehoming part If a dog is dangerous and gets seized, wouldn't it just be PTS and not rehomed. Not that I believe this dog should be declared dangerous, just saying that any dog seized for such reasons, wouldn't be rehomed! I wouldn't be believing this lady and her facts being 100% correct
  2. I know Ruby will need sedation or a GA, but believe it or not when someone is poking and prodding her, it's like she knows it's for her own good and she actually stays still. If they have to straighten it I can imagine that will be mighty painful for her, so I will be happy for her to go under. My wallet, however, won't be, but my baby comes first.
  3. If you can call it luck, a bit was on my side and Steve has a cancellation on Friday morning, so I snatched it up! Otherwise I would have had to wait 2 weeks. He came recommended to me from Ruby's breeder too so I am very glad I have gotten in with him.
  4. Thanks ST. After I made the post I emailed Ruby's breeder about Applecross vet as she takes hers there and apparently one of the vets knows Labs well. You're very right about correct diagnosis being paramount, which is why I won't take her to the same vet Ptolomy had problems with (they were my vet too). I just don't think their staff are the most knowledgeable. Vet I saw last week can't do X-rays herself. Think an appt with applecross vet is required. Sick with worry!
  5. I need some Perthies help, please. Has anyone had their dogs x-rayed and how much did your vet charge? Is it likely to vary in price and therefore I should be shopping around? The next step for Ruby is for her elbow to be x-rayed. As she hasn't responded to acupuncture, Rimadyl and over a week's rest, there is a suspected possible fracture of the elbow so we need to x-ray to confirm or rule that out Edit: will this kind of x-ray require her to go under? Thanks.
  6. That's the trouble with Labs. There aren't many around that the majority would class as just right. In people's eyes, there are groups that say are either too skinny, and other groups that say they are too fat (even if the Lab isn't at the extreme end of either scale). So you're right, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Now I just concern myself with what I think is the right weight for my own Labs
  7. Great post. My Maltese used to do this a lot when she had bad teeth. She got all her rotten teeth removed and the episodes stopped. Interesting! Not sure if it was a coincidence or it was the cause of her throat being irritated. She only rarely does it now, she's 17.
  8. Looks good to me as well. And I know all about the public thinking your Lab is a Lab X because it isn't the usual keg on legs Lab. I've been asked several times what Ruby is, or if she has any Lab in her. For the first time, I'm actually trying to put weight ON my girls. The change in their new diet has meant I wasn't feeding an adequate amount, and now Ruby is a bit too ribby. Lucky them, they are enjoying the extra lunch time meal when I am home to give it, and the increased dinner portions :D
  9. Best wishes for Kenzie. Really know what you're going through
  10. Still lame. Not hugely, but I know it is there, and I am making sure every step she takes outside is on lead and is calm. Do you know how hard it is to stop a Labrador from "bouncing" even when on lead when she's excited???
  11. Well my house is an absolute pigsty! Training is my priority because it's also my biggest hobby. After working all day and being out a few nights a week to train, the last thing I can be bothered doing is housework! So I usually do the bare minimum and then when I can't stand it, I dedicate a rare spare weekend day to cleaning the house top to bottom I've been home from work 2 days now with the snuffles and the dogs are going stir crazy being kept inside, so I've done a few short training sessions with them today because we haven't made it out to training this week. We just finished one so they are content to lay on their beds for the time being, but it won't be long until they are staring me down for dinner
  12. Yay for rain! I've got Millie in agility on Sunday. Scratching Ruby Sat and Sun. Both girls just need one more AD pass, so here's hoping Millie can do it for both of them
  13. The vet indicated to me that it was her tricep, I might have to email her to explain a bit more. She walks ok, but does the whole "head bob" thing if she picks up pace or once she's woken up.
  14. I am a bit sickly myself now I came home from work today because I was feeling dreadful, and when you have no work to do to take your mind off it, you feel worse! Sorry to hear about the baby you lost, ST I'll check out your website in a minute for the puppy pics I won't be at the K9 on Sat, scratching from obedience. But I'll be at the GSDA grounds on Sunday for agility, just taking Millie. OSS - I will have to google tendonitis. I just can't believe she is still lame after a week (you can tell I've never had an injured animal before, don't know what to expect!)
  15. Not sure if I trust a lot of those sorts of products to do what they say they do. Not cheap either!
  16. Understand your pain, huski. My maltese is 17 now and has no eye sight left, and only partial hearing. She is constantly bumping into things, despite knowing her way around the house, and is often just barking at nothing. She very rarely takes herself out to the loo anymore, and doesn't let us know either so just pees on the floor (come to think of it, she never poos inside, just wees, so I give her some credit ) She stayed with my parents when I moved out (she was my dog as a teen) but I still see her several times a week and feel my parents frustration with her. Apart from her eyes and hearing, and her slight "dementia", she is still a healthy little thing. Not sure how long we'll have her for and I know things can turn over night from a healthy senior animal to death's door (my cat lived til almost 20 and went from perfectly well to keeled over in pain overnight). Just enjoy her while she's still here and accommodate her best you can, it's all we can do really!
  17. What was wrong with Rommi? Just when I want to step up the retrieving training so I can enter a trial this season at long last (seasons only last maybe 5 months!), Ruby goes and hurts herself
  18. Hope he feels better soon. Yes, from Red Dot for $40 each.
  19. I don't have a choice! I've only got the one dog! But I think not knowing which one you'll be taking would be crap, I take it you've entered a few and will decide just before you leave for the airport? The Nationals are almost here! I wanted to come but can't afford it, and I also couldn't decide which dog to bring. Glad I'm not entered now, because it would be even harder to choose now that Ruby is starting to get her act together in the ring!!!!
  20. Feeling your pain, ness and LR. Ruby still isn't 100%. She is weight bearing on her front leg which appears to be the one giving her the most grief, and her back leg seems ok now, but I can still see it isn't right with a slight limp. Friday after accupuncture she didn't want to put any weight on it. She's been on Rimadyl for 3 days (was only going to do 1 day but the limp wouldn't go away). No more for the time being, and the rest continues. I will be dropping them both round to my parents place all this week again for babysitting while I'm at work. I've got a soft crate set up at their place for Ruby when noone is around to watch her. If someone's home, she's just laying down anyway. Injured dogs suck Scratching her from obedience and agility trials next weekend, and really wanted to get out and do some retrieving practice but can't
  21. Thanks, ness. Hope Kenzie makes a speedy recovery. Ruby has been better today. My girls got a nice present today, some new snuggly beds for Winter! Ruby likes to snuggle up into a ball in Chloe the Maltese's bed, and at times is half hanging out, so I thought she would luuuuurve this new bed! :D I think they're a hit
  22. Congratulations TSD and Ziggy on his JDX!!!
  23. Just hand Em over to Sue and she'll be ready for All Age in a weekend Actually, so would Ziggy
  24. JulesP, I have a broken recall and DOR at the moment with Millie Ruby's Open exercises all seem to be working currently (even the dreaded SFE is passable at the moment and her DOR), but SHE is broken! So we are most likely scratching from next weekend's obedience trial. Boo!! Definitely scratching from agility. It was her JDX debut as well!
