  1. Great videos Nicole, TSD and Smisch! Loving your rear crosses smisch
  2. Go Strauss!!!!!!!! Good thing the rain went away then, huh! Well done Vickie! That's mighty impressive :D
  3. Refusing to go over, or crouching on it then wanting to jump off. She's always been a bit nervous on ramps and stuff, but I got her over it to the point she would do the dogwalk. Then the introduction of the baby see-saw saw us go back to step 1. More months of remedial dogwalk training and I had her going over it again. An unfortunate incident seeing her flying over a full sized see-saw (wasn't meant to, huge handler error and I am paying for it dearly) has taken us back to square 1 yet again. Handler needs more than a good whack for that one Sigh!!
  4. Awesome idea! Millie is a bit of a scaredy cat with storms, but I just ignore her and she lays under the table. Or if it's the middle of the night, I lock her in the bathroom as it's the only room I could close off Lucky she doesn't make noises, that gets irritating!
  5. Hugs mirawee, what a crappy start to the year and it's still only January! Storm hit here about half hour ago, and now it is quiet again. I wonder if it's over as soon as it started or are we in for some more?!
  6. Was a great run, Amy!!! Hope you don't mind the filming from so low down, I was too lazy to stand up :p He really did nail that distance challenge, go Kyzer!!! I had a go at JDO last night (our second trial) and had a ball! I really like the flow of the Open courses I've seen so far, so I think I will keep entering them too as a bit of fun as it takes the pressure off as I don't imagine getting a pass in that any time soon I was proud of what we achieved though, she got the weaves on her 2nd try (I was expecting it to take longer as she hasn't done a lot of weaving as part of a course before) and the distance challenge went to poo poo (which was expected, haven't actually trained any of that!) but we had a hoot and she tried so hard! Oh and any "speed" we might have had for weaving in training, disappears in a trial I mean she's not fast anyway, but that was an agonisingly slow weave last night But I'm not out to be competitive with others (if I was I wouldn't be trialling a couple of Labs), I'm just out ther to conquer it with my girls and only really care what we do as a team ;)
  7. Thanks! Yep just one more to go I really wish I could get on top of her dogwalk fears, though, as I'm itching to have a go at agility
  8. Falling asleep at keyboard..... Ruby gained another Novice Jumping quali in her 2nd Novice Jumping trial 3rd in 500 ;) We also gave Open Jumping a go and had a lot of fun! Didn't expect much out of that one (except to have fun, which we did!) and even though Ruby didn't get the weaves til her 2nd attempt and we messed up the distance bit (not hard to mess up when you haven't actually trained any distance stuf ;)), I couldn't be happier with how we went and she remained upbeat for the entire thing! ;) Tried her little heart out, and that's all I can really ask for
  9. My holiday goal was to get Millie weaving, and start on a really reliable recall with both girls. Millie is now weaving 12 straight poles (not 100% reliable yet :D) but the RRR didn't happen, I'm so naughty This is probably the most important one to teach and the one I keep putting off. Shame on me
  10. Lucky Victorians! :D Still hoping this comes to WA - I've been putting some more work into Millie's retrieving now that I know Associate Gundogs are eligible She's coming along nicely and had her first go with a thrower on Wed, she was a very good girl
  11. That sounds like how I taught Ruby. In class, we did 10 minutes of luring (didn't want to do it that way so stopped) but by then Ruby kind of understood the basic in/out action so I worked with her on 3 straight poles trying to get entries and then added another 1 straight (after finally watching the DVD :D), then another 2, then combined 6 + 6. So her approach was a mish-mash of 2x2/luring the initial/shaping the rest. I did 2x2 with Millie in line with the DVD (to the best of my novice ability) and the only difference I see between the 2 dogs now is Millie has her head down/body low when weaving (most of the time), but I think this just could be down to the dog. Neither dog are at that stage where they are reliable so I still class them both very much still in the learning stages, and I'm hoping with more work they become more reliable.
  12. Woah, a cyclone! Just to keep things interesting CC, glad Daisy is doing well!!! :D
  13. Some great videos posted I will never use my videos as a promotion for 2x2 I'm not that great a trainer and my dogs will never be fast, but for me if they are just weaving then I am happy My next dog (whenever that is) I may look into other methods and combine with teaching the entry with 2x2. It's all just a learning experience for me! I appreciate hearing everyone's thoughts :D
  14. That probably proved my point then, that you probably can't pick the difference between weaving styles when taught right but I was interested to see how DeltaCharlie is able to pick between the 2x2 and not Not trying to be a smartass DC, genuinely interested and using the info to learn My dogs are far from reliable yet, but when Millie goes at it she really has her head down and body low and goes to the fastest of her ability. This isn't evident when we were only at 4 poles, but I can't say that I trained it 100% correctly But as more poles were added, the understanding to drive more through them was increased too. These are the first 2 dogs I have trained to weave and this is the only method I've tried, but so far I like it and I hope dog #3 I can do better once again.
  15. It teaches them to find the entry, collect themselves to enter it correctly, and then drive through them with speed. The only way I can tell the difference between a 2x2 taught dog and not one, is those who didn't manage to teach their dog to be independent weavers with their other method (ie. they wave their hand in and out of the weaves or continually encourage them all the way through. I am not saying everyone does that, I know there are plenty of independent weavers that didn't use 2x2, I'm just saying that I definitely know 2x2 wasn't used if they are doing that hand waving thing!) If someone presented me with examples of end results taught using different methods, I couldn't tell the difference For interest and education sake, can anyone show us videos demonstrating the visual difference of the end product between a fast 2x2 weaver and a fast weaver taught by another method? :D I know Kenzie is a good example of a fast weaver taught using 2x2. Would love a comparison
  16. Offsetting the 12 in the 2x2 method encourages speed as ness said. I wouldn't say the 2x2 causes a slow dog. If you're going to have a slow dog, you're going to have that regardless of the method I would have thought. Mine drive through the poles when they know a reward is on offer, I just have to work on transferring it so they still keep it up as part of a course. Millie who only just did her first set of 12 straight poles last week was roaring through them on Tuesday night, and she was taught with 2x2. Then again, I've never taught using another method so I have nothing to compare it to
  17. I think she was just trying to trick us... those "bad" photos didn't look bad to me at all Especially that puppy one..... CLUCK CLUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. My fave is the first photo you posted of him but I really don't think he could take a bad photo, even with a bad photographer!
  19. OMG poor Rosie!!!! Glad she is ok, yuck though!! ST - oh my look at how spunky James is  He makes me want that ES in my life more and more!
  20. Poor Jenna! I had no idea it could get like that. Well my sleep in plans are no more. But tis ok! I am off for some retrieving training in the morning and as much as I love my sleep ins, I tend to give them up if there's the chance for some good training Looking forward to it!
  21. I have a medium and a large here Candice, if you don't get a dumbell before we see each other next, take a look at the sizes I have. I use medium for both girls.
  22. Oh man, sometimes I'd love to be able to pick my dog up and exit a ring
  23. I should hope Novice dogs aren't being given an easy ride, cos in the long run, it does more harm than good. Like you say, all of a sudden you have these dogs in Excellent/Masters and they aren't prepared! (I don't think we'll ever be though, honestly!") Same goes with any sport really. There should be no easy rides to a pass. Put the work in and pass with pride, or don't!
