Geez, wish I had your problem. Only at work for 5 hours but I race around non stop during that time, have had to take a step back and try to pace myself as I found that I was using up too much energy and when I finished my shift my limbs were going to jelly and my legs were giving way under me, plus having chest pains again (not my heart, stress related as I ended up in hospital a few years ago at this time of year for the same reason). Find it hard to slow down though with the workload and trying to keep everyone happy. Unfortuanatly requests for extra staffing falls on deaf ears even when my customers go in to bat for me. So looking forward to the four day break before the next onslaught. On the upside my day goes in the blink of an eye and today after a particulatly stressful day Mum and Dad took J and I out for a lovely lunch at Sizzlers (although I was looking forward to my bed) . Apart from your chest pains no don't wish you had my problem. People say that, then when they experience it, they appreciate being busy and take it back! Like you said, your day whizzes by. Mine draaaaaaaaaags and I feel just as exhausted had I been on my feet all day (I've done retail over Xmas, in layby especially and you can imagine how crazy that is, especially when parcels get lost and you have to break it to the customer so believe me I know what you're going through and I can compare the 2 types of exhaustion and they are damn similar!) What nice parents you have! Please take it easy ozjen, we don't want you in the hospital again!!!! Work is just work, not worth losing your health for

Thanks, guys I guess looking back at the video, Millie doesn't appear as bad as I made out, but it has been pretty tough going and my frustration is building! It feels like it's going nowhere! I can see my timing is better with Ruby but I guess that is a confidence thing (me in her) - I know Ruby is going to complete the weaves so I'm ready to throw. Millie, however, I have been caught in the trap where I throw to be timed better but it's just a second too soon because she pulls out just as I throw so she's getting rewarded for not doing the right thing. I was trying to delay it a bit to ensure she goes through, which isn't working either and as caffy said, is causing her to stall. And yep Vickie, I can see now that she is being rewarded for stopping and looking at me. I got caught in a trap where if I didn't throw as she moved even slightly into the last set, she would continue to just stand there. I guess I was trying to show her she is doing the right thing but in the end have showed her that standing there will still get her the toy! Ugh! I might try your idea, TN, about standing down the other end. It might be a disaster as it will be a new picture for her, but is worth giving it a shot! As a side note, I actually need to stop rewarding after every weave for Ruby because she now comes to expect the ball when she exits the weaves! I can just picture it now, in an agility trial, finishes weaving and just stands there looking for her ball I am just working on speed and more consistent entries with her, now. Oh and Vickie, don't be envious of my wonderfully huge backyard The camera was at the fence in the corner of the yard! -
As soon as she posted the weirdest question ever I was going to say exactly that

Okie doke, here are our first weaving videos. Ruby - The first bit in the video I left in for laughs. I hadn't asked her to start yet while I went into the shed but she thought she'd be a showoff and show me she knew exactly what I was going to ask for And I definitely need to peg the bases down as she's being a bit cautious going through. Millie - I left a bit more "in between" stuff in Millie's video as well as her mistakes so that you guys can see where I am having trouble. (Oh and she actually tugged on her toy for the first time ever, was chuffed! So left that in, too ) She understands to keep on going more so on the right entries, and sometimes on the straight entries, but anything slightly left to the straight entry and she isn't understanding to keep on going. She worked through it a couple of times in the video, but there definitely were more errors than right ones in our session this afternoon (and this morning). Hope it makes it clearer what our problem is by seeing it and hope I can find a solution! And yes, I realise it's me, I just don't know what I'm doing differently between her and Ruby. -
I'd happily take people around my area walking their dogs on harnesses and head halters over what they currently do, no leash at all The small percentage that do walk their dogs responsibly on lead, use flat collars from what I can see. Have seen a couple of head halters but no harnesses. I walk mine on flat collars too, but admit that I rarely walk them because I am too afraid by all the loose dogs in my neighbourhood. Their exercise involves a free run in a safe area and training a few nights a week.

I filmed some not long ago but it ain't impressive! Millie sucks, my technique for training sucks, and while Ruby "gets" it, she is lacking speed! But the poles aren't pegged down (I can't in my yard, there is so much rock under my grass that I can't get pegs in!) so that is slowing her down some. She barrels through 4 at top speed but get to 6 and the speed disappears I will see about uploading some later tonight. Just gotta chop it all down or it will take ages to upload all the faffing about in between! And nobody is interested in that! I wouldn't even fit 1 set indoors -

He's doing really awesome, TN!! You should be totally proud!! You started after I started with Millie and don't we feel like dunces Might go home and film just how terrible she is I've never filmed Ruby, might do so, too. Though she can now weave 12 straight poles, her entries aren't always 100% correct and she loses a lot of her speed when she does all 12. So I am going back to 4 and 6 with her at home to increase her speed and improve her entries :D -
No that is too soon for me for a new pup I think. But I am definitely coming for puppy cuddles!! ST - is your mum and sister moving for good? Who owns Charlie? Yay for Rommi!!!
-
So what are waiting lists like for them? Oh and I love the name Roisin. I was coming up with a list of potential puppy names the other day and Roisin was added! I hadn't heard it on here before, so nice choice

Woohoo!!!! Hope I can make some more progress with Millie, soon We need video, TN -
As long as you email me in advance.... Mirawee can do all the ones I have to work! ;) Why aren't you going to handle by the way? Um, I don't know, not sure I'm cut out for it! But I may change my mind when it's my own pup. I like to have willing handlers lined up just in case I chicken out, which is highly likely! Do you have some sort of filter that alerts you when your name is mentioned in a thread?
-
Oh no, the slobber bit scares me! What is their average life span? I know you say they are good retrievers as well as hunters and pointers, but are they known to be successful in retrieving trials around the world? The only thing that makes me sway at times away from a working breed is the fact that I want a gundog for retrieving after I learn a bit more about it with my Lab, Ruby. Oh no, photos!! Gorgeous! Can you keep them clipped shorter and not look funny?
-
That would be good. Also to ness' logbook idea. Just get a pass in each exercise over however many trials to qualify Ruby might be 2/3 of her way to her CDX by now if that was the case!
-
mirawee and RV - don't forget to add showing my puppy to your list if it eventuates But I might wait til 2012, who knows!
-
Busy year indeed for you, RV! I have quite a busy life outside of work (the dog stuff, part time study, and doing some web sites on the side for people, plus maybe a puppy!), it's just work gets in the way of the fun stuff! Regardless of me having nothing to do at work, I still have to come, which takes up the biggest part of my week
-
Yep anything is low shedding after TWO Labradors Aussie Shepherd. Also want an English Setter and a Beagle. And now maybe a Spinone If I get the large property I want and miraculously make more money, I will have several of my chosen breeds at the one time. Sorry to hijack the thread!!
-
I honestly don't have anything to do!!! I might have to make some changes in 2011. Not sure, yet. I remember when I used to work at Kmart while I studied. On my full day there it was usually quiet so I would stretch my tasks out so they would last as long as possible. At times I had to take my books in to study cos there was nothing to do! I was in layby so hid out the back all the time unless a customer rang the bell

come help me fill the shelves all i am getting is complaints about us doing it whilst shop is open and the loads are excessively large And yet you have time to post on DOL while packing shelves? Get back to work, emery!!!
-
If my heart wasn't set on this other breed, I'd be right behind you in putting my name down now I'm such a breed whore ;) I now have a few different breeds I want to own and in my impatience, I want to own them all right now, too
-
OK just went to the ANKC website to confirm to myself that yes, they are a gundog, and I am surprised to see they are about the same size, if not bigger, than my Labs! I know what puppy I want next, and sadly it isn't a gundog, but I love gundogs so might keep my options open in the future
-
Ditto to what deelee said! They are beyond cute And what a change from 4 to 6 weeks. I wouldn't have picked it as the same breed/puppy without you telling us!! Can't wait to see more photos Edit: They're a gundog, right?
-
4 hours down, 3.5 to go until I can go home and do nothing, instead of being at work and also doing nothing. I tell ya, and I'm dead serious when I say this, that having nothing to do at work is terribly exhausting! Trying to occupy yourself for 7.5hours is horrible Same again tomorrow, then 11 days off, woohoo!!!

OMG look at the feet!!! My girls have no evidence left on themselves of digging, but I think it's Millie as I've caught her before! I think Ruby might join in a bit for fun, but it's Millie who's the real digger in my place I believe! (Unless Ruby is framing her, she's smart like that).
