Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad
RubyStar replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
Run free, Sophie :D Big hugs to you Moselle I better go give my two a cuddle, as it reminds us that life is too short and to appreciate every moment with our beloved doggies. -
OMG Bear looks like an alien baby in that last photo! :D

Thankyou

Here is Millie's video :D

Thanks, guys I'm taking bets on who gets their first CDX pass out of Millie and Ruby :D By rights it should be Ruby, she's been trialling 2 years while Millie has only been trialling less than 6 months, but I really don't know if that logic will hold up Ruby knows the exercises better than Millie, but Millie has the attitude for the ring. We'll see
-
I will be of course. :p But I won't be coming to obedience tonight so goodluck everyone. Nawww well you missed Milliemoo CCD becoming Milliemoo CD! :p She was a good little girl, 1st place and 193/200. A little mishap with her stopping to sniff the ring ropes would have seen a few more points on that perhaps Couldn't be prouder of how she worked though, she was happy and worked very hard! Ruby worked hard tonight too, being the cheerleader for Millie from the car

Woah, I had to dig out the Brags thread from page 2! I have a brag, it's been a long time for me to have much to brag about Millie got her final Novice pass tonight for her CD title! Milliemoo CD :p 1st place with 193/200. So proud of my girl I now have 2 dogs in Open Scary thought for a newish trialler, never thought I'd get there with one dog, let alone two :p :p

Thanks! Anybody interested in going halfsies? :D :D

Oooh ooh what's it called and where do I get a copy? ;) I bought mine here RS. Note that it is definitely NOT a step by step guide (like The Focused Puppy for example) but runs through concepts and ideas based on traditional methods but using positive and clicker training. Sometimes they will discuss multiple options - some not used by many people but which may have potential. There's chapters on marking, blinds, casting etc. Thanks! Price is ok, but what is postage like?

My thoughts - screw it Ruby likes to tug! So long as you teach the retrieve starting with the hold and work backwards, they should be able to differentiate between the two exercises . Tug means pull and be crazy, retrieve means hold this thing. I think some retrieving people teach the retrieve first and once that is where they want it, introduce tug (if they need/want it). I figure any damage I have done by tugging as a pup has already been done, so in my personal case, there is no point revoking the tug when I want to also try retrieving. Though it would help if I actually trained retrieving one of these days or we'll never get there ;)

Ah-ha but I did mention I use toys, too, just am thankful they work for both Now I'm just being pedantic
-
He's not an i-squeakaholic?? Mine prefer food to toys too, with the exception of the i-squeak! Even when it doesn't squeak anymore ;) I've just about thrown in the towel with trying to entice Millie to play tug... but to be honest, I didn't even give it that much of a go. I can make do without it and would prefer to spend the time "training" her to play tug, to train something else
-
But that is what Jules is saying, her dog isn't that motivated by either. Very tough indeed! I am thankful I can use food because I don't think I could use a toy reward as well as food in teaching some behaviours. But I'm also thankful that they will work for toys because when I am teaching things that need several repetitions (like weaving), I would go through so much food!
-
I agree, maybe have her crated while you train your other dog, so by the time it's her turn she's itching to go!
-
Gosh me too, so thankful I chose Labradors to train! Though mine do so love the i-squeak as reward. I teach new things with food and then some things where it's appropriate, I switch over to the ball (or tug for Ruby as well sometimes) ;) But food for training!

Yip, I am going to do another free shipping order around 1 december, do you think they will put new stuff on free shipping before then?? Not sure, possibly, but I think we should all be mindful of how many free shipping orders we make. If we all keep ordering things here and there just for the sake of free shipping, it's going to cost them a fortune in postage and they may stop offering free postage on so many things! Maybe a few of us could combine another free shipping order, at least then it would be worth their while? Just a thought
-
I don't really keep up with the news, so I am surprised to hear that the Aussie dollar is worth more than the US dollar Clean Run orders, anyone?! I remember holidaying in the US when it hit probably an all-time low - I was getting US48c for my Aussie dollar
-
OMG OzJen :D That is the funniest thing I've read in ages :p Glad I didn't buy a babble ball now
-
I was going to enter both of mine in the one team and Valley was going to handle Ruby for me, but after seeing a team where one person owned both dogs and how disastrous it was (dog wouldn't work for the other handler when "mum" was nearby, kept going back to her!) it is probably not a good idea to have both mine in at the same time :D
-
22nd January I believe. ask Emma, she might be interested. I need to watch a few first Need to have a dog jumping the same height for Strat Pairs... and I don't think Rosie would be able to jump 500! Would be interesting if she can, though Abbey or Jenna? I am assuming we are going Abbey may be best as long as Millie doesn't come over and visit, Jenna is a bit too attracted to other dogs running near her sometimes Well if J doesn't mind and you don't mind being the handler in a team where you might have to come and correct everything Millie faults on Sounds like it could be a plan! ;) Edit: Actually, maybe I can pair Ruby with one of the Aussies (if they are willing) and Millie and Jillie can pair up
-
Fun because you'll be laughing your backside off at all our mistakes
-
She is teaming up with Jillie :D Seeing Millie will be there too, I thought we'd have some fun if I can find her a partner
-
Are there any novice strategic pairs dogs jumping 500 who wanna make a fool of themselves with me and Millie at the Cloverdale fun trial in January?
-
I've conveniently got plans the next 2 Wed nights (no, really I do!) But we might return in the coming weeks I know Amy is just dyyyyying to go back! :D
