New Obedience & Tracking Rules
RubyStar replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm sure people must think similar of me when they see me in Open with Ruby Ruby was one dog that was entered into CCD way before she was ready, and look at us, we are still paying the price for trialling before being ready. I think a lot of people with their first dogs fall into that trap. Second dog comes along, you're not as eager to jump into the ring. I waited until Millie was ready and then waited a bit more. It has paid off, she is only 1 pass short of her CD title and has taken less than 5 months pretty much in straight passes including CCD (the Royal though was a big fail, stagefright got the better of her ) Took me about a year after CCD to get the guts to enter Ruby into CD and then it took us 6 months to get CD. Think it might take years to get Ruby's CDX but if things keep going well, Millie will have hers well before Ruby. Anyway I've gone off onto a tangent with info noone really cares about ;) Back in my hole -
Yummo - we will definitely come looking for you and yes it is a morning and an afternoon trial. :) Saves me baking this time!

New Obedience & Tracking Rules
RubyStar replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah I think my chances of passing CCD are getting slimmer and slimmer although in all seriousness - I can see the benefit in that there are a few dogs I've seen pass that worked pretty appallingly and maybe part of the idea is that it will prepare people better for novice?? My dog can work at a novice standard so the changes shouldn't make a big difference for us. I was writing my post while you posted yours Ditto to above. And you and Daisy are more than capable of passing, and with a great score, you've just had some bad luck. Upping the score won't affect you guys when Daisy decides not to get up in her down stay or something small :D -

Maybe so the ones who are woeful right across the entire round don't get a rude shock in Novice when they get their CCD title on three scores of 70? I've seen a lot of tight leads in CCD scraping through, there is a fair chance they won't cope with the lead removed. I agree that increasing the stays distance is a bit wrong, that is one class they should come closer or let them stay on lead for stays! -
Gutter mind? Me? You must be mistaken!

Hey valleyCBR, J and I are going to Bunbury, are we awesome enough? You so are! Are you going to be showing 2 dogs ozjen? Make sure to come say hi! I will have Lincoln and I am bringing my friend and he is bringing his Bronson That sounds like a euphemism ;) :p

So we have to cope with prickles as well as those little black ants now? :p Do they want all our agility/obedience dogs to be lame or something Probably, but as long as the pretty ones are fine!! ;) (I know you're a show person too, but couldn't resist )

OK, so they are just used so that the articles aren't lost in the grass then rather than making sure you don't have "nice" smells in the grass? It is always interesting hearing people from other States commenting on the DogsWest grounds given how much flack us WAians give it now But have you seen all the prickles that the new growth has given us? Ruby jumped out of the car Monday night and into a bindi patch, and proceeded to limp around. Put her in the car and took a look at her pads and they were covered in little needles Then the patch near the roped off bit is looking atrocious! ;)

Has this one got to do with this line? (as I have no idea if this is a new bit ) Examinations: For all examinations the Judge must approach the dog from the right or left front and not direct front. In examining the dog, the Judge will touch those parts of the dog’s body detailed in the exercise description for each class. This is a temperament test so undue pressure must not be exerted on the dog’s shoulders, back or hips to test for ‘stability’. Does that mean that that tough SFE that a few of us have been subjected to won't be allowed anymore? Another change I noticed, I think, was the optional dumbell retrieve in Novice, exercise finishes with the dog in front after taking dumbell - handler doesn't have to go round dog anymore. to CCD score needing to be 85! While that means Ruby would still be in CCD ;) I think it's a fantastic rule change

What mat? I have never seen a mat used in UD here ;) Am I just really unobservant? Quite popular in the eastern states I hear

Help Needed With "stand For Examination"
RubyStar replied to koalathebear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Where were you when I got Ruby -
Yep - so we now aim to have a grand occassionally clever dog More reason now for Scoota and Brookie to aim towards UDX This is new (I think): Fouling: A dog which fouls at any time while it is under the control of the Judge must be penalised. The penalty on each occasion shall be 5% of the total points for the class. The deductions must be recorded as 'penalties for misbehaviour' and deducted from the total score. When Ruby pooed in the ring in CCD she would have only lost 5 pts, not 10 like she did, and still came first ;)

Is Grand Champion in obedience new?
-
Interesting Off to go have a read, thanks The stays and SFE weren't somehow abolished, were they? ;)
-
At least you'd see them on the x-ray if they bounce him up and down
-
I have this feeling we will never see them there, I always look and never see! I think they know we would completely sell them out if they offered free shipping on those

Mine too! I am really glad I got another of those pouch tugs cause Lincoln loves them! Is that what you were using last night? I ordered one, hope it helps for Millie! But I'm not too stressed if she doesn't want to tug It's what I had last night But Lincoln will also tug with other things, it's more to get the treats off my body! I was tempted to order 2 - but I keep ordering things I don't need and it's sending me broke!! I ended up throwing in 2 more zap balls even though i-squeaks still rule all! But Millie likes them when it's all that's on offer, and good to use when it gets dark
