Oh and I have heard about a litter of Lab puppies now too Want me to tease you with photos of them in a few weeks? DEFINITELY!! Whose are they?
-
If it's a pup, I would crate the pup if you have one. If it's an older dog, I second GR's response in leave him be to settle where he pleases, at least on his first night. I tried crating Millie on her first night with me (she was an adult rescue) and not ever being crated before and being in a new house, she barked the house down. I ended up letting her out and put a dog bed in the tiled area of the house and let her be. She settled in her own time. It took her a few weeks to feel comfortable enough to want to sleep in my room on the floor with Ruby. Until then, she wanted to sleep out on the tiles by herself. I think key is, don't confine the dog if you find they are stressing out. And if it is an older dog, it should be fine with toileting before you go to bed and then again in the morning. You could always set your alarm for the middle of the night like you would with a brand new pup and take him out :p

I met three Stopped at J's on the way home and met her new Sheltie baby and played a game of tug with her LOL As I said to you on FB, I can't get another til my girls are in maintenance training mode. So I thought I better get cracking on teaching them some more UD exercises Started teaching Millie the box, Ruby directed jumping, and both of them the seekback. Pretty good session :p I think this entitles me to at least go looking at puppies

EXCEPT a border collie pup Or an Australian Shepherd pup. Or a Labby!!!
-
But then the others come and ruin it for us by introducing us to their new puppies! Only makes me yearn so much more!

Ditto

Yes, I am puppy clucky ALL THE TIME!! It doesn't help when everyone around me is getting a new puppy. Today alone I met 2 brand new puppies! Want a puppy so very badly It's been 3 and a half years since I've had my own puppy breath, waaaaaaaay too long!!!

I don't think that person will want to scribe again! I don't ever want to be scribe in case I stuff up that big myself! I not only feel bad for the handlers having their runs mixed up but the scribe too, I bet they feel awful Strauss is lovely! I was worried Ruby would either play too rough with him being bigger or get grumpy with him cos she is starting to get a low tolerance for annoying puppies But Strauss gave as good as he got, he knocked Ruby about in return like the size didn't matter, it was great Then both Strauss and Zippa decided to gang up on Ruby by jumping all over her and then started chasing her - she took off to the bushes to get away Bad Ptolomy - the red kids are creeping their way up my "top breeds" list. Aussies are still #2 ;) But I am thinking Tollers are creeping up to 3rd now! My fave toller is definitely Cider, she's a cutie patootie and would have a home with me in a heartbeat if I was allowed to steal her!

Basically yes, and it's meant to encourage your dog to drive into it too, so it helps for things like agility where you want speed. At least that was my interpretation when I watched the first half of the DVD

I'm staying at mum and dad's tonight cos I couldn't be bothered going home and cooking for myself... and they have the election stuff on here too. Booooooooriiiiiiiiiiing. I'm busy trying to upload videos from today though. Millie's is up, but Ruby's turned out really blurry for some reason so trying to redo it. Choc chip cookies yummmmmmmmmy!! What time should I get there for and do you guys know where you will be sitting yet?

What time is the agility tomorrow? I plan on coming down with the ratbag one, if I feel ok. I've come home today feeling a bit off Need to make it down to hand in my Bunbury obedience entries and come and cheer everyone on! (I promise I'm not only coming for the baked goods I made honeycomb slice again and have a few slices left that I will bring down tomorrow.)

It rained for a little bit today. Some poor woman and her dog were in Open during full pelt, but the dog worked beyootifully! Didn't bat an eyelid at the rain! Shame it moved on the sit stay, it was awesome We stood undercover til it passed, then we had the Open and CCD stays when it passed

That is she :p: Yay for GR puppy cuddles!!
-
Hope Toby is ok!! I got Strauss cuddles today! So did my mum, who is totally smitten with Tollers! Dad wants a black Lab but mum wants a Toller The red kids are slowly winning me over too So I'll be rooting for Mum to get a Toller Dad came to watch Millie today (not Ruby ) in obedience and Mum said when they announced Millie got 1st place and the lovely comments she got about her work, Dad got tears in his eyes ;) He really loves Millie. While I was having Strauss cuddles, Dad got both girls out of the car and walked them around (I never let him walk them so he thought he'd take full advantage while he could ;)) Mum said that Dad was saying when he gets his own Lab when he retires in a few years, he wants to do obedience trialling with his Lab, how cute He's becoming such a softie in his old age. I think Mum needs her own dog to train/trial so it is something mum and dad can do together when they retire Oh yeah, Millie got her CCD title today

My fave!!

If you're concerned about a particular pre-existing condition being covered whether or not it is written on the policy as being excluded, best thing is to be calling them and speaking direct to clarify as it would be awful to think you're covered then find out when you make a claim that they won't pay up cos it's in the medical history. I'm pretty sure Mas1981 had a pre-existing condition when she signed up for pet insurance, and they agreed to cover it after a waiting period of like 6 months or a year (I think it was his tear duct problem?) Hopefully she will see this and clarify.

Also... I own many obedience/agility DVD's but haven't watched many of them, all with good intentions to do so though! Another one I watched and didn't go through with was Really Reliable Recall. I even took notes on that one so I could refer to them without the DVD, but never got round to it Bad mummy!!
-
I started... But my girls are pretty good with the crate anyway, and with the very little work I have done with Millie, she's starting to understand the concept and is being a good girl about going in her crate, staying quiet in it (huge one for me!) and waiting for her release cue to come out after I've opened the door. I'm with TerraNik, don't care what position my dogs are in, as long as they wait before coming out. But it just so happens that mine sit anyway, and I pull on their leads to ensure they stay put in learning stages, then release.
-
I literally held Millie's Qually card in front of Ruby and said "IN YOUR FACE!" I think Millie is going to be the obedience dog I hoped Ruby will be... but I won't be giving up on blondie just yet!!

Ruby had her 2nd attempt at Open today, no pass as I expected, but there was some lovely work in there amongst the not so good She started off really well in the heelwork, back to her "up" self that I have been fighting to find again, but she was so "up" that she took off down the ring to say hello to the figure 8 posts that walked out as we heeled back down the ring Proving once again why her middle name is Ratbag with a capital R!!!! Lots more distraction work required ;) SFE was a disaster, no surprises there, especially when the judge literally leant down to let Ruby give her kisses!! No Lab in their right mind is going to stand still for that Drop on recall, bit slow to drop, but at least she did it on first command. Retrieve on flat was ok, she picked it up by the end then dropped it to pick it up correctly, no biggie in my mind, fixable and not a usual appearance in training. Retrieve over solid jump, LOVELY Distance control, lovely again! Got full marks for that, though she did move ever so slightly forward in the down. Something I am currently retraining but I reverted to the word/signal she already knew until the new one is solid ;) I have videos of both trials that I will work to get up online tonight Well done to Bedazzled who took out Open on a verrrrrry lovely score!!! Can't remember if it was bedazzled or Ptolomy who took out UD, no doubt one of them ;) Oh and I met Strauss Cute little fella, so full of beans!!
-
Introducing.... Milliemoo CCD Millie had her third CCD trial today to pull off her third and final pass, and her third 1st place!! It was a clean sweep Today she scored 98/100 Losing 2 in the heelwork. You wouldn't believe me when I say she was actually very flat today (until you see the video ), even when I had treats outside the ring, she was not her usual bouncy self that is an eager little beaver to work and makes it so fun to trial her! But she was a good little girl and concentrated on the job at hand and did everything right - couldn't be prouder! Next up, Novice! Her debut will probably be in a few weeks time. Let's see if she's still as capable in a trial scenario when the lead is gone!

I'll be on the bottom oval from around just after 9am until the obedience finishes which is probably around 12-1pm at a guess. But I will probably be back on Sunday with Ruby to watch the agility!
