I'm not squeamish about seeing predators eating meat, I love to watch my dogs chow down on a big turkey leg, I even take photos of it. I wouldn't have enjoyed watching a giraffe being killed though. I forced myself to stay with my horse when he was shot and it was very distressing for me.

they are high energy and destructive as puppies. I still crate my puppy if I have to go out and cannot take her, would not trust her as far as I can throw her, actually strike that, I bet I could throw her a long way, she's so little :laugh:

I have no problem with the meat being used to feed the lions either, but the public execution spectacle is awful to me and I too would question why he was ever bred in the first place. On culling, I wish when kangaroos are culled at Puckapunyal and it is in the many thousands, I wish the meat and hides were used instead of just bulldozing them into the ground to rot.

wow, he was put down in front of an audience, kind of like a public execution. I cant see that happening at Melbourne zoo.

the meeting at Healesville would be over by now. The dogs still have to be transported home in their trailers though and some come from far away.

awww I think someone should have rescued the puppy at the end, it was terrified.

Mine too! :laugh: People think they're just wimpy little lap dogs, but this proves they can do so much more.

I think they have a policy not to race over a certain temp but from memory it's something like 38C. It's way too hot to run them. I was there a few years ago when a dog died after running on a very hot day. Yes, it's all about the money.

The Sunday races are going ahead, the only concession being they're starting early, but it's already 30c here. http://healesville.grv.org.au/

gee you will really have to keep him comfy in this heat and not let him get dehyrated too. I'm sure he's happier with you than at the vets.

thanks. I hadn't started asking people to give her treats, I was just asking here if it was the right thing to do. I'm glad I asked, what you've said makes sense.

thanks all. I suppose I am mostly concerned if she's to be shown. As a pet of a hermit (me) it probably doesn't matter if she's stand offish although I would like to have the best most well balanced little girl she is capable of being.

That IS a good suggestion, but people always seem so disappointed and almost offended when she shuns them. :laugh:

I have an Italian greyhound puppy, she's just turned 6 months old and although she was never completely outgoing and gushy with strangers she was gaining confidence, but now she's becoming more wary and shy. The last thing I want is a scaredy cat iggy. Would it help if I get strangers to give her treats? She's also scared of the dark, and even moreso after last night, I assume there was a fox or kangaroo outside and the big boy whippets went beserk. She was really frightened after their carry on.
