  1. I dont see this as dangerous at all. I prefer the original. The words that come to my mind are old, warm, secretive (I've no idea why) earthy, lots of others that I cant quite articulate, but I love it. I wish I could take photos like this.
  2. Thought I should start a separate thread. Is anyone interested in coming along to a photography field trip to the Melbourne Zoo? so many of us have fairly recently bought new cameras, both point and shoot and DSLRs and I thought it might be a great way to get to know our cameras and hopefully have some experienced photographers to give us some pointers. I can go most day except Wed's and Sat's and the 3rd Sunday in April as it's our Whippet Fun day.
  3. Well, is anyone up for a day next week? Wed is a no no for me.
  4. Wed's and Sat's are out for me, most other days with a bit of warning I can make it. I'd love to go with an experienced photographer (or 2, or 3 or more) Hope you and Chezzyr are feeling better soon.
  5. No, no butterfly pics due to the foggy lens. I really stuffed up the day, I forgot to take my reading glasses so I couldn't check what I'd already taken, and I am a dill, I still haven't got into the habit of at least checking the speed, so many were blurred and it probably could've been avoided if I just increased the ISO, although then they would've been very grainy/noisy. At least I am a member of FOTZ so I can go back anytime I want. Actually if any one else from here (who knows their way around a camera) is going one day I'd love to tag along. It would be great to have our own DOL educational field trip.
  6. Well I went today, before I read about leaving my camera in the bag for the first 5 mins in the butterfly house. My lens fogged up and I had to get out anyway, it was too humid for me. the pics are just downloading now, I've got an awful feeling many will be blurred, either from too slow shutter or just that damn lens not focussing. I took almost 300 pics!! surely there's got to be a few keepers. fingers crossed.
  7. What lenses should I take. I want to travel light and my camera bag wont fit them all in. I would guess I should take the long one and I wondered about the 50 because it's so sharp and fast but would I get close enough to anything to use it? I haven't been to the zoo for 20 or more years so I dont know what it's like there now. any suggestions, my lenses are in my siggy.
  8. I bought a lens off Ruth which was exactly as described and in very good condition, and she's not paying me to say that .
  9. Everyones photos are amazing, I cant comment on everyones either, cause I am too slack to have a pen and paper beside me to take notes. Taurus is the dark horse who's come from nowhere. Ruth is that puppy yours? Montall the little salamander looks positively prehistoric and quite eerie. I am feeling a bit inadequate with my simple straight off the camera pics that lack the post processing of most others but I am still enjoying it, although I find myself thinking I need to do a course, but overall I am so glad I splurged and bought myself a camera!
  10. I dont have any of those programs, :D just what comes with Canon.
  11. I've finally switched my camera over to try RAW, it's only taken me a year. I see I had the option of shooting in both RAW and whatever it is I've been shooting in all this time. What would be the benefit of shooting in both at the same time as you have to convert RAW anyway? BTW I think I found it clearer, I've only kept one pic of the 6 or so I took but it's pretty clear and sharp. Not really sure what I was doing to adjust it and convert, :D I just bumbled along.
  12. Good idea. When I found I was taking my camera everywhere, and because I've already had one stolen I decided to add it onto my contents insurance. I am covered now even when I take it away from home. You need to insure the lenses separately though. It does give me peace of mind so I think it's worth it.
  13. I hope the camera itself is all OK. The kit lenses often sell very cheaply 2nd hand depending which ones they are, they're often hardly used too so with a bit of luck, if it cant be repaired you'll be able to pick up another without too much wallet haemorraging.
  14. G for ghostly my clever Kibah looking at my reflection, not at me when I spoke her name.
  15. thanks everyone. I might dig out the old film camera and try it out again for fun.
  16. Just that, with CF cards when are you supposed to clear them and when are you supposed to reformat? I am not sure I understand the difference, I think you can recover images if you just clear them, but you cant if it's been reformatted, is that right? Other than that is there any benefit to do it one way or the other?
  17. I just remembered I have an old, very old Tamron lens that has been sitting unused in my wardrobe for close on 20 years. can I use it on my Canon 400d? anyone know, here's a couple of piccys of it.
  18. thanks Montall, oooooh! how did you do this one!! It looks really freaky.
  19. F for Fast P for Play U for Ultralight S for Share the Sky. those birds are plovers in case you're wondering
  20. I am coming in a bit late, might not get through the alphabet. In no particular order I for Ibis B for Bounce A for Attack E for Encore: the very next day same place, same victim, different attacker.
  21. She looks like she has the body of a seal, or sea lion here, complete with rear flippers. She is a Merdog!
