  1. Squeeee. There is going to be a thread on this, no? For me, it will be a toss up between: - rough coated JRT, from a specific breeder - w/l ESS - I've admired w/l mals, but doubt I'll have the time, energy or skill for one
  2. I love a few breeders - and they are very different. I love training and love training different types of dogs. I find you learn more and become a better trainer. I guess some breeders might be put off they I don't love one and only one breed, but that is their loss IMO :-). They might be even more turned off to find out that I'm not a dog lover. I adore my dogs and love a select few (all highly trained, well behaved ), but I'm not fussed about the rest.
  3. The last time I went (a few years ago) there was a man with a few giant Amstaff's who kept on dropping their leads - they were almost pulling him over. He seemed to think it was funny and took no action to control them. They were very, very hyped up on the lure coursing and we had a close call. It's why I don't go any more .
  4. For those that use Google Earth, you know that pics of most Australian suburbs are many, many years old right? My property was subdivided about 5 years ago, yet it still shows a single property.
  5. +1 to this +2. And just because someone looks at breeders with dogs on the ground doesn't make them bad/lazy. There are no "extra points" for waiting for years and years for a pet. If you're after particular lines, that is a different story (eg my next dog will be an agility dog. I will know who I want to get a dog from and will wait and wait and wait. If I was after a pet, the pool of potential breeders would be much bigger).
  6. You need to put it somewhere it will be seen - they aren't going to ruffle through all places in your wallet. Mine is in the clear section but where you normally put your licence. It is also on the screensaver of my phone ( in case of emergency call xxx. Aldo call xxx to take care of my dogs). I also have my cousins phone number under ICE in my contacts on my phone. My cousin is diabetic and the hospital told her to do this as paramedics will apparently look up you in case of emergency ( ie ICE) contact. No good of your phone is locked though, hence the screen saver idea.
  7. Maybe you don't realise, it is not up to you in the end :) Yes it is - it is up to both the buyer and the breeder. I expect to be asked a lot of questions by a breeder. I find it odd that someone would request a photo of me. After all, if you're dodgy it is easy to fake these things. All the breeders I have spoken to/emailed have been interested in having a conversation with me about whst I'm looking for in a dog , what kind of life I can offer etc . It has been a natural conversation and not :0 questions .
  8. It also depends on the container it is stored in as oxygen exposure turns oils rancid.
  9. Great that you are seeing Jane Harper - she has a good rep. Now that Bon is maturing Lucy could be trying to assert herself. She's also a bit unsure of herself, isn't she? Sometimes less stable dogs lash out at other dogs as a way of coping (not saying this is necessarily the case here, but my Lucy used to redirect aggression onto Fergus occasionally. It hasn't happened for a few years now and they are both safe together. They are a boy/girl combo and Fergus is submissive though). Edit: Just watched the video. Very upsetting. Poor little Bon is sending Lucy all the "I don't want to fight" signals and Lucy is just ignoring them. That is a pretty fierce attack too. Completely unprovoked. I've never seen a dog attack like that before. Very, very viscous. .
  10. I'll only turn it on if we have a run of very hot days (40 degrees+) or if it is hot and humid for a few days. My dogs are young, healthy and non-brachy. I have lots of windows but they are double insulated and the house is floorboards, so it actually stays pretty cool. They just sleep more in the heat.
  11. Are you sure you don't mean carbon monoxide poisoning? Air cons don't produce CO. I don't think they produce CO2 either.
  12. Sorry but how does aircon cause CO2 poisoning?
  13. As long as there isn't a storm, we'll walk in the rain. We don our raincoats and go. I think walks are important for mental and lhysical health. (We live I the burbs) for both them and me. We might miss a few days in a row due to the weather, but I live in Melbourne , so the dogs wouldn't get walked in winter if we had a "rain = no walk" rule. Walks in the rain are shorted though. For hot weather, we just go early (sometimes 5am when it is extreme).
  14. If you got he repeat from a pharmacist then the PBS could have been subsidising it.
  15. shel did explain why the button is where it is. I get that people get confused but PetRescue does clearly explain who they are and what they do. If people are just too darn lazy to read that then it is their issue, not PetRescues. The rescue's name is on the adoption page of every animal. The rescue takes inquiries, sends forms (all with their name and not PetRescue), does the house check etc. If the adopter is told the rescue's name in each of these interactions with the rescue and still says "I got my dog from PetRescue" then blaming PetRescue for not making things clear is unfair. Maybe the rescue groups needs to make their brand "stand" out more when the interact with adoptees?
  16. I thought the distance TID packages were already back huski? Or is this something different ?
  17. Why would a breeder mention their website in their ad if they don't have one/ haven't touched it for 10 years? Why not just say. "Call/email. For details"? It makes no sense...
  18. I agree. I love the expression in one, but can't help but think the dog has got themselves into an awkward position (twisty)
  19. How on earth did a discussion about a GSD attacking turn into a conversation about pitbulls? I'm glad she got fined. I wish all people with attacking dogs got fined. It might prompt people to behave more responsibly, pay attention to their dog's behaviour and seek help when there are small indicators that things aren't perfect.
  20. Wow. I don't get the angst towards PetRescue . They explain clearly who they are when you hit the donate button. If people don't read that then it is on them, not on PetRescue. If the person who donated in error doesn't contact PetRescue, then what can they do? Moving the button on to another part of the page isn't going to help. They could remove it entirely , but then someone is going to have to pay to run PetRescue.
  21. It is very good. I hope you're already booked as good kennels are booked for December by mid year at the latest.
  22. PM sas - Great Dane rescue have a great free program . Personally I would never put a corrective collar on an anxious dog - it isn't going to address her anxiety and may well make it worse.
