  1. Some shows have rulings that you may not camp ringside however others are more lax. We camped at Lancefield and tents/caravans set up outside the oval. We had power. Also shower and toilet facilities. Same as Noorat/Camperdown. Camping outside the oval area with shower and toilet and power. I think the inner tent kits need to be used with a solid wall kit to be fully private. However personally I like having my tent away from the rings and we have a large dog pen set up etc. Plus the dog trailer. We then leave our gazebo set up ringside overnight. Generators are okay but please if you are using one DO NOT leave it running all night. Too bloody noisy.
  2. If this is true then why are dogs who are infertile or barren allowed to be shown? Why are dogs found to have an unacceptable for breeding hip or elbow score or those found to be a carrier or affected by a disease still allowed in the ring? Why is health testing not part of the rules when or comes to titling an animal?
  3. I'm normally in bed by 9 on NYE haha so quite enjoyed my dog show last night Any group 2 results?
  4. Do you actually need to pay your money if the dog is ineligible for the age class it's shown in - surely a quick count on the fingers will show the steward someone got it wrong and it would be up to them to get it sorted??? Or are you meaning people deliberately lying about the whelping date? I'm talking about altering the whelping date from show to show to suit the competition. Also have seen cases when the dog wins it's age in group but not eligible (in this case dog was entered as an Intermediate but was only 17 months at the time). Could have been a catalogue error but I believe it should have been rectified prior to the dog being judged so it was judged in the correct class. It didn't beat mine as we were knocked out in breed level anyway but I don't think it was right. Exhibitors need to be responsible fir their dogs and check the catalogue before the class starts and rectify mistakes sooner rather than later. Saves a whole lot of bullshit really. Dog entered as a bitch and catalogue error I can accept without a problem but when a certain dog is entered but another shown in it's place just to get the entire litter titled (remaining dog has a major breed fault), I find that unacceptable. Not my breeds though so it doesn't affect me personally and I cannot justify the expense.
  5. Yes I agree - but most of the judges dont. Oh well - their choice. I will still wear my hat, its well fitted and doesnt come off in any weather. Thanks everyone for the replies though. many judges don't wear hats as it can freak many dogs . Mine don't care but i have seen dogs freak by judges who wear hats totally inappropriate for judging. Sunscreen works wonders The very small visors are hardly noticeable especially colour co ordinated Sunscreen doesn't do anything to protect the eyes though. If my dog were to freak out at anything the judge was wearing it would just serve as a reminder to train my dog to handle it. Love your hats, MM.
  6. Yep, it's judges and stewards who need to wear the hats!!!
  7. It was inside last year due to the storms that were predicted and it was a good thing when they hit lol. Hoping it's outside this year though. I love the twilight area Got our numbers last week Group 2 173 Group 3 279 Group 4 436 Group 5 549 Group 6 688 Group 7 811 Last number is 919
  8. A number of reasons- it may blow off, may flop into your eyes, you would need an array of hats to match the various outfits, they impede on your eye contact with the judge etc. These are reasons why I am reluctant to wear one in the ring. On that note, many people here do wear hats in the ring without issue and some look very nice in them too. I have never worn one in the ring but I did get a nice one for Christmas so I might one day lol.
  9. It was Peter & Dawn Howard's It was absolutely beautiful. So in control and just floated around the ring. Took my breath away just watching.
  10. Group 5 BIG was a GSD (Intermediate, bitch I think). Runner up was a Kelpie (Open) Baby Stumpy tail. Aus Bred Sheltie.
  11. Not sure about other states but here in Vic it's $250 to lodge a complaint..... Who has that much money to spare??? There have been a few times I've wanted to put in a protest (dogs entered in ineligible age class, wrong dog shown etc) but I'm sorry- I just can't spare that much money!! I believe if the protest is sustained you get a refund of $200. That's still $50 wasted!
  12. Okay MM will see what we can do about saving a spot for you
  13. We have numbers for all 4 shows ;) Dunno if I can be co ordinated enough to bring food for lunch haha barely organized myself!! Should be a good 3 days
  14. Parvo is always 'around' unfortunately, we get lulled into a false sense of security because we don't hear of cases and think it's not out there, and poof..when we do hear, now it's 'around'. Hence the reason why there is no point getting bent out of shape about it really....I can bring it home from a dog show, or the supermarket. that is the reality. There is no higher risk at a dog show than a parking lot. Remember, the MAJORITY of the dogs attending shows are fit and healthy and innoculated....the dogs that stroll through the carparks and on the sidewalks may not be so.....where is the bigger potential risk then? And of course whenever you go to the vet...... Even if you have a vet come out who knows what their last patient had!
  15. The bitch I mentioned was ultrasounded at 4 weeks and x rayed the week before she whelped. Neither showed anything. I took my bitch 6 and a half weeks pregnant to the New Years Eve show last year, was much better for her to be in the familiar show environment than at home with the next door neighbors shooting off fireworks. Was going to stay home but remembering the neighbors behavior from the previous year decided it was much better to be at KCC. my dogs don't usually care about fireworks but when they are 5 meters away it does stress them.
  16. Lol Ososwift. Ziva is the same- has absolutely no regard for her body at the best of times!! Right up until whelping she wanted to zoom and leap around. Wasn't fun trying to keep her 'safe' ence the increase in walks- was the only way to stop her going mad!
  17. I do have to say my bitch was flown from interstate, I met the breeder at the show, picked her up, she was shown and three days later had a pup. The bitch was returned as she was xrayed as not being pregnant, and due to the fact she had VERY convincing phantoms there was nothing unusual about the large boobs. There was only one pup. So I guess it could have been me! I would never have had her there if I had of known, and she wouldn't have been flown back if the breeder had known. Yep I know of a bitch who was confirmed not pregnant who ended up with 3 pups! Her owner came home from a dog show (the bitch hadn't been entered due to the possibility of being pregnant) to find 3 pups and a happy bitch in the backyard!! So not whelped at a show but could have been quite easily. This bitch also was a classic with milk boobs and false pregnancies! Quick question to those who keep the bitch at home from mating- how do you exercise her? Or do you have a large yard/property to run her on? I have a large property and only take my dogs to town for training and just to give them something else to look at really. I take them to the beach as well but we have lots of beach and if there are other people their we quite often move to another spot with no other people or dogs. I have no need in the exercise department to take them off my property See for those of us who live in suburbia we don't really have much choice where we excercise our pregnant girls. My dogs don't always get walks but have lots of playtime in the yard etc and are quite fit but when my girl was pregnant she was walked several times each day because it was drummed into me the importance of having a fit bitch during the whelping and after about 4-5 weeks I didn't want her engaging in the rough and tumble, launching off platforms and furniture etc that they usually do. Body slamming doesn't seem appropriate for a pregnant bitch lol.

  19. Not debarked - it doesn't sound like it anyway. It's only a slight lower pitch than the Japanese, more of a yup than a yip. Most people possibly wouldn't even notice!! Maybe it's jut the ones here in Vic lol. Please don't take what I said as being prejudice against either breed- merely sharing my personal experiences. And I do admire both breeds very much, just being honest in my observations as well as from what I have seen when dogs of both breeds have mixed with my own. Lots of Japanese Spitz in pet stores down here :D they seem to be very popular ATM so not sure if that will make it better or worse for finding a high quality animal.
  20. That depends on the size of the Germans. The smallest are much smaller than a Jap. The Japs are very "busy" dogs and definitely not the type to lie around doing nothing, unless of course they happen to be lying on your lap getting spoilt. Then they are more than happy to stay still. Sorry should have clarified I was talking about the Mittel ;) Although I prefer the bone on the Klein too. I like all 3 breeds being discussed here but if I were to get one it would be a Mittel- the Japanese are incredibly pretty though but my style is stronger and more workman like, which I think the German Mittel fits into. I guess I'm also thinking about dog shows- go past a trolley of Japanese Spitz and it's yap yap yap go past a trolley of German and it's still yap but more sedate and a slightly lower pitch. My experience but either way it's gonna bark lol.
  21. Personally, I prefer the Germans :D the ones I have met seem to be a bit more chilled out than the Japs I've seen around. Plus, they are a little larger & sturdier in build.
  22. I was flicking through the updated version of his 'biography' the other day and nearly vomiting! I hate that he owns my breed he also believes that hand stripping is cruel and clips his off, and they are obese. I think it's important to read these things though- know ones enemy an' all. He gave my dog an award once, didn't even pat her. Bastard.
  23. Justso you don't think im ignoring you- the replies RSG and Rebanne made to yourself and GayleK pretty much sum up my feelings. Most people will not do it as dramatically or aggressively as the judge in the video. It's a very effective training method for young pups. I personally have found using food treats results in a lazy stack as well as needing to have bait in front of the dog to get it to move forward. The rocking and dropping the back legs (most puppies will squirm and wiggle their bodies during this for kisses!) encourages the dog to walk itself into a strong forward reaching stack without the aid of bait under it's nose.
