  1. Yup MM- especially for trailers! Downright dangerous intact and if not for another wonderful exhibitor blocking traffic for us I don't know how we would have gotten out last year. Hence only entering 2 dog's Friday and 1 on Sat!! Glad we can have gazebos now though!! Major improvement.
  2. puppy was the Sibe (Ryker). Group 2 BIG Stafford (Beat) and Open RUBIG Airedale also puppy and Puppy in Show Baby smooth fox also Baby in show Minor ?? Junior Stafford I think..... Or it could have been the Minor. Inter Border (mine :D she also got a 9 point BOB) Aus Bred ?? My boy also got 2nd in the Veteran sweeps (7-10 group)- 1st was a Malamute. Can't remember what got 3rd??? And not sure who won the 10+ group either sorry. Inter in show was the Irish Wolfhound!
  3. We never do the drop off- too difficult with the trailer to work it and hardly saves us any time (maybe a smidge of effort! Hate that damn hill), but got to the racecourse carpark at about 7:15 without any drama?? Were the 2nd trailer in :p and the last to leave
  4. An update to "Mason's" career.. His 5th show was the Newfoundland Champ Show in NSW where he won Runner Up in Show and Puppy in Show! To say we are thrilled is an understatement!! Mason is 11 months old. After just 5 shows, he is already the number 9 Newf in Australia at the moment!! I reckon he'll have a BIG under his belt before long! He is gorgeous and so well put together.
  5. Rarely get onto DOL these days but someone told me about this thread!! I had no idea there were so many DOLers entered- sad now as the only one I knew was CC lol. I had the little Border terrier in case you don't have sigs turned on :p was a great day- my first ET and I don't think it will be the last!! We have 3 other dogs to start training up now lol. Once I've recovered from today that is!! My knees and ankles are goingto be very angry tomorrow I'm sure. Was a great event and big thank you to the GSDCV for putting it on, the coffee & soup was very much appreciated and how gorgeous was the weather! Thank you to the judges and the stewards (especially the one who lent me the spare bike after mine broke down.... Next time will be buying a quality bike not my cheapy!!!) and the committee. Extremely proud of my boy, now to be known as Champion Glenbogle Kiss Chasey ET (he is the 5th Glenbogle Border terrier to pass this test), just kept going and behaved so well. And of course congratulations to everyone who competed!! A great bunch of people
  6. Litter vaccinated at 7 weeks, after most were sold, I had my girl & one who was to be collected at 9 and a half weeks. During that period both pups went everywhere with me, being carried. When the pups were about 11 weeks, shortly before the 2nd/final vaccine I had two come to stay with me. I took all 3 to two shows (1 at Bulla and one at KCC and they were in a pen, on grass etc (I asked permission of the owners before doing it), I also walked them around the shows on lead etc (and they joined in an impromptu puppy play group!!). My girl was shown at Lancefield oval (public park) just after turning 3 months of age, but had been to shows almost weekly. Whenever we buy a pup they come to shows and sit in a pen/ walk around as soon as possible. Yep, it's a risk but I weigh up the dangers of a disease vs an unsocialised pup.
  7. Massive congrats to Ziva & Takoda on their fringies :D I think Ziva is a big star in the making Puppy in group 2 & Puppy in Show was the Border 'Glenbogle Man of Mystery'. Minor & Aus Bred in group were Staffords (minor went In Show), Junior was the Skye. Open was the BIG, Inter RUIG. Group 3 was the cocker, baby pointer, Minor GSP, Puppy Golden.
  8. Well done to Rochelle & Zane!! Rochelle is one of the loveliest people I have ever spoken to at shows, and so devoted to the breed!! Very VERY well deserved
  9. Congratulations, Colleen & Gracie! :D Will try and catch up today at KCC
  10. Catch 22, damned if you do damned if you don't. But if everone thinks like you SP neuter classes will never be well supported. But I do understand where you are at. It's up to the exhibitor. Yeah, I know. And I have thought about it that way. I heard a rumor they were going to be compulsory classes later this year?? I'm still not 100% decided on neutering him (he is only 6.5 and I have no issues keeping him entire- it's purely selfish I want to show him more lol), but it would definitely make the decision more worthwhile and it would also be something to discuss with puppy buyers etc (neuter but stillshow nice dogs etc). At the very least, I want to continue supporting the class by way of donation so remind me next year I guess at the moment I am not going to lose one of my show dogs (I only have 3!) for the sake of one or two shows a year (I'm not in a position to travel much).
  11. I don't use a pooper scooper at home (plastic bag and cat litter scoop works better IMO), an how many does one person need lol. I think money is the best bet, really. Everyone can use it and you can not have too much!! Vet bed is a great prize, too. Crates are easy to pass on if you have enough?? Whatever it is make sure it isn't broken or used hahaha. But yeah, I would probably treasure a chipped vase if I won it but I am sentimental like that.
  12. Thank you I wonder if the small entry has anything to do with people not bothering to alter their dogs registration to be on main neuter unless there is a point to it (ie more classes offered!!). I am considering neutering one of my dogs, however as I want to keep showing him, I won't until the class is more commonplace. He has his Ch title and has gained almost 50 points in the past few months but he'll never get his grand lol but I don't like leaving him behind so neutering him will give us something new to work toward
  13. Maybe I have missed it (forgive me if I have!) but I couldn't find any results for any Neuter in Groups?? Particularly wanting groups 1 & 2 please
  14. My boy won a cheap little sugar bowl/spoon set, which didn't fit together properly but I love it anyway!! Maybe I don't win enough lol but I'm grateful for any prize I get Do love towels, dog toys though. Oh, one of the best prizes would be a veggie steamer Casey got for Baby in Show. It's used almost every night lmao. No doubt cheap but it's bloody brilliant!!!!! But I can understand those who win frequently will amass a store of useless objects. Things like conditioner at a Border Terrier specialty are a little bit silly lol. We don't want silky smooth coats still grateful but yeah, nOt really useful for me!!!
  15. welcome to the world of big owners & how lucky you are,$150 would be a spit in the ocean for me.i pay just under $800 each year for my melbourne trip, this year with extra dog will be just near $1000. I paid nearly $2000 to fly to shows last year Oh, I wasn't whinging about the cost - I know it can be very expensive especially for larger dogs (can I ask though, that amount you quoted, was that purely for the dogs or did that include your own flights?). I was just more annoyed at the confusion, different advice I was given from different people (and AAE themselves), I would have saved extra into my dog account had I known from day one I wasn't able to fly her as excess baggage, that is all $150 when you expect to pay nothing is a bit of a shock to the system!! But like everything else with them, big dogs are expensive. You could always downsize my 3 Borders don't even cost me half as much to keep as my Newfoundland did!! Big dogs are better though
  16. That's correct. I flew Darwin to Melb and back. Dogs allowed in Melb terminal but not Darwin, so she had to be sent as 'freight' both ways, so it did not come under excess baggage, it was extra cost. This was Qantas one way and Virgin Blue the other way. Glad I wasn't ripped off LOL although the extra $150 added to my trip was an annoyance as when I'd entered the royal I had assumed I could take her as excess.
  17. As I understand it, fr a dog to fly as excess baggage, both airports must accept animals in the terminal? I flew my small dog from Melb to Adelaide last year but had to fly her as freight becauseanimals are not allowed inside the Adelaide terminal? I flew Qantas.
  18. I have used OzEntries once I think for a standard show (I also used it for the recent DOGS QLD Virtual show) and that was the Bulla Autumn double in 2010. For 2 dogs entered in 2 shows I think it was close to $50 in total but the entries were high (maybe $12 each) and I had my numbers posted to me. So at approx $25 per show for the 2 entries is not, in my opinion, that bad. It is an extra I am willing to pay (each cheque is $2, postage is .60 per stamp, then the cost of envelopes, paper, printer ink etc so it is probably quite similar really). Recently entered 5 shows for Noorat weekend- 3 dogs each show. It cost me $165 in entries, plus $30 camping. I used 4 separate cheques, 3 envelopes/stamps to send TO the secretaries and 5 stamped return envelopes (as I was informed the year before last I needed to send a separate envelope for each SHOW, not each club), so that is $8 in cheques, $4.80 in stamps. I would have been happy to pay even $20 more on my entry to have done it instantly (also would have preferred to do it online to be certain all my entries would reach the sec in time as I have to take the Friday off work which means lost $$$ and have to arrange care for our other pets etc). No, one one is forcing me to enter these shows but I would happily choose to pay a bit extra even if it were 2 or 3 dollars per dog to use the service. Plus, I can do it from work or wherever. Much more convenient.
  19. Lol. Ours get a soft serve for a fringie and a cheeseburger for a title or group win! Always with no onion but Nessa can have a sensitive stomach so I has to be the weirdo who ordered cheeseburger with only cheese and meat. Oh well. She loved it anyway!!! Glad we are not the only ones who do Macca's rewards hahaha.
  20. She got a cheeseburger lol. Then herding clinic today!! Which she LOVED. Will post some pics soon and hopefully mum will see this soon
  21. Today at Berwick Ag show my mum (SerenityStar) showed her smooth collie girl to her title. Nessa is mum's first show dog (although she had helped out with my Borders before) and it hasn't always been easy but it's been worth it!!! Thank you to JENCOL and Carluke for all their help over the last 2 and a half years, their advice and friendship. And special thank you Jenny of JENCOL for breeding this beautiful girl and entrusting us with her. Nessa still has some maturing to do but she is a sound, elegant girl with beautiful movement. Can't wait to see what she has in her future she has been a great (if somewhat trying!!) intro to the breed. Congrats again, Mum. Am very proud of you both :D
  22. Hehe yes it was my wee Casey who got Junior in group at the open show was a tough line up too, and quite funny as it was hot and honestly I was just pleased she was looking at me and I didn't bother getting her to stack perfectly and when the judge said 'Border' I was a bit shocked lol. But very pleased :D Was knocked out for show by the BIS which is a pity.
  23. Might be a big dog/little dog thing? If ours aren't being shown, they stay home with a dog savvy house sitter when we go away for the weekend. As we have an old companion dog, there's always someone that needs looking after so an extra dog isn't a big deal. For me it's too much hassle to take a medium sized dog away if you're not going to show it, particularly a moody Saluki bitch We only have 4 dogs, and the oldest is only 6 and a half so all are very capable of being shown - when the oldest gets to be a real geriatric things may change lol. But I think we are also very lucky - none of our girls get moody (touch wood), and even my boy doesn't pay much attention until after the bitch starts flagging. If they were moody or difficult to handle etc then it would be a completely different story and I would definitely not show if they were not up to it (or if it was going to be pointless ). They have these things called 'Boarding Kennels' so you don't have to take an inseason bitch on a long journey to a show, there are even pet sitters and even good friends who can dog sit for a few days while you are away. There is no need to take a bitch like that. I have taken mine away for a w/e of shows and she came into season on the morning of the 1st show, so I drove home instead of going to the show. Well good-ee for you! My bitch is in season, not ill. She has a spring in her step, super shiny coat and is just at her happiest & most confident when in season. And I'm sorry but I wouldn't trust a pet sitter with an in season bitch (nor would I trust a stranger in my home), any of my few friends who would be suitable to take care of her would likely be at the same show! As for boarding kennels - the only one I use is not set up to cater for in season bitches. If they altered the regulations, I would cancel my show weekend and stay home rather than leave her in the hands of a stranger. It is not against the rules, many people are able to train their dogs to behave around a bitch in season, it is not my fault or the fault of others who show an in season bitch (assuming we do not flaunt her and keep her contained and toilet her away from the rings etc) that some dogs fall apart.

  25. Worst I ever saw in the peeing dog stakes was a dog peeing on a baby's bassinet, with the baby in it! As for the bitches in season threads, like other common topics they usually go the same way - to the point that when I saw this one come up I thought to myself that I could write a summary of the thread before it got going!! Some people will say it's rude, others will say the objectors' dogs need better training. Neither side will agree. I think some manners goes a long way, as well as some perspective about what a day away from a show ultimately means (ie, not a lot unless you're missing a once in ten years specialist God of your breed). It can mean a lot if you have booked accommodation, made travel arrangements not to mention entry fees wasted especially if it's a cluster show. Or if you don't show very often for whatever reason. I know when I do 'away' shows, I have to take everybody with me. Could always scratch the bitch in season but she would still be there in the tent or whatever and I certainly wouldn't be leaving her unattended! So it's not always a case of 'omg I can't miss a show for a single reason'. I definitely agree with you about manners though, let people know what's happening and be considerate.
