  1. ;) And a big sigh of relief. Smart move. If you want to do some reading about puppy raising read the training stuff on this website. Lots of good advice there. thats a good website
  2. Amstaff's are very different to what you have had before. Question is, do you really want this puppy?
  3. The best constructive advice I could give the OP is for them to have a professional dog trainer come in, to show them how to deal with a puppy and educate them on dogs. If staffygirl88 really does want this dog, she has to accept that she needs to start over again, revise her expectations and start looking at the world from a different perspective. I will give her that she has asked the questions here on DOL, but she needs to take seriously what we are telling her. Many of the people here on DOL who are replying in this thread have many years experience with a variety of breeds and temperaments, and their advice is sound - we are not being 'mean' but we are seriously concerned that what she is putting in place will lead to all sorts of problems down the track. The OP also needs to understand that while puppies are cute and cuddly etc etc, they are lots of work and lots of responsibility. If she is not willing to take that on, then a dog- regardless of any breed or age -is not for her. Sorry, but thats it.
  4. Alternatively, return the puppy so that it can be rehomed with someone who has sensible/realistic expectations of a BABY puppy and go out and purchase one of those battery operated robot dogs from the toy store. They don't need feeding, don't need toileting and when you've had enough you can simply flick the 'off' switch! My sugggestion earlier
  5. Take your dog back to your breeder, or find someone who will give it a loving home. Then buy yourself a stuffed toy. It doesn't chew, crap or bark. That is what you are obviously after. My frustration doesn't mean I don't want her. Coming to that conclusion is a bit nasty imho and if you can't say anything constructive to me then say NOTHING. Go be nasty somewhere else thanks A couple of things - an 8 week puppy will not be 100% housetrained when you collect it. A breeder advertising that is not being truthful. A dog will not look you in the eye, esp when you are being angry and intimidating (in its view) - avoiding eye contact is one way in the puppy world to avoid confrontations and to show it is submissive. I assume you have bought a staffy pup, if you are after something placid and calm you should probably not have gotten a pup and maybe gone with an older dog. What breed research did you do? Did you research your breeders? (btw - Is your breeder a registered breeder with the canine association?) Sorry, but your post has actually pushed my buttons, becuase it has been with unrealistic expectations that you have bought a puppy, and unless you start educating yourself and stop blaming the puppy for its 'faults' then its going to end badly for all concerned - probably with a trip to the pound. And if you want to know what trouble and expense that causes, go check out the rescue thread.

  7. Yes, its very difficult if the average Joe hasn't spent some time researching not only the breed but the breeders. We all know of registered breeders who breed as often as they can, with the focus on production and $ not on betterment of the breed. Then there are unregistered breeders, who have flashy websites and promote themselves on the internet as having a variety of lovely puppies on demand, all healthy and happy (and "you don't need papers for a pet" bylines). There are other categories, but your 'averag Joe' is likely to think these type of breeders in particular are reputable, esp with the spin and smokescreens that they put out. And next thing you know, they have paid and lot of cash and bought a puppy which may have significant health problems, behavioural problems and development issues, but once the deal is done and the goods handed over, the 'breeder' doesn't want to know about it anymore. Seriously, how many times have we seen that played out here on DOL with a newbie posting "I have a problem"....?
  8. that guy must be seriously mentally ill to so such a thing.
  9. Welcome to the forum Terryible Lappies are a great breed - and you have come to the right place to ask questions :p In response to your questions: I love the look of their coat, from what i have read it doesn't take much to look after, but does it shed much? Males tend to have more of a coat than females, but this can and will vary with individuals ;) They will moult once or twice a year, in between these times you would probably not see much hair but when they blow coat, you do know about it. One of the things you can do when your Lappie is moulting is to wash and then either blow the coat out yourself with a dryer or get a groomer to do this. when should one take a puppy to get trained? Generally you would look at doing puppy preschool, and then after that you can do obedience etc as per what is allowed by your local clubs. Personally, I would not do any agility training until your puppy is at least 12 months old (or a bit older). Is there anyone/breeder in the sydney/newcastle region where i could see one? There are a number of people and breeders in NSW. If you pop over to the spitz thread you will find a few there You can contact Miavig and Ausvarg as they currently have litters in NSW. Hom much food do they eat in week? LOL How long is a piece of string? Don't be tempted to overfeed them, but they should eat no more than any other medium sized breed. It may depend on just what you are feeding them, their age and weight ofcourse - your breeder will be able to advise you on this. how much roughly is the price of a female lappie? The same price as a male Lappie LOL Generally, a Lappie will be priced between $1500 and $2000. Price may vary if your puppy is from an imported line or semen. Thanks for all your time and look forward to hearing your answers No worries - come and see us in the Spitz thread! And if you have any questions in the meantime you can pm me
  10. No idea he's still in the same spot he was this morning - he'll probably move tonight. He's pretty chilled lol
  11. I like spiders, so it doesn't worry me. The bigger and hairier, the better!!LOL
  12. There's no mortein in this house Haven't used any in 20 years, and you know what? Never had a problem
  13. Got up this morning to discover this little fellow visiting us. Thought he'd make a good model for more photography practice! and just so you can see his smile for the camera
  14. Be very careful....if you see one in the flesh that itch is going to get one heck of a lot worse I did that and that was the end of me and now I am owned by my adorable lappie puppy Ella and couldn't be happier. I fall more in love with her every day... she has the most wonderful temperament They have sooooo much personality - but that's probably a biased viewpoint LOL!
  15. I forgot to mention, if you want to see any lappies let us know - breeders are all over the country, so depending on where you are in QLD there are a few you could go visit
  16. Hi Marion If you want to be truly bitten by the Lappie love bug, come and join us in the spitz thread. There are always lots of gorgeous lappie pics being posted! There are also quite a few Lappie people who post in there too. If there is anything you want to know - just pm me!
  17. Hey AL - You've picked the difference pretty much there. I find the sammy coat a bit thicker, but that will vary with individuals. Temperament varies with individuals but it should all be within the standard, so read up on those. It comes down to preference - mind you, if you can't decide you can always go for a cream Lappie! LOL
  18. LOL - Sorry Fran, but you know the saying - one Lappie is never enough! And they need forever homes! LOL
  19. here's another one for you Fran
  20. For those that love all the different Lappie colours, this is Miss Beyonce from Watersedge Kennels - she has some rather interesting sable colouring going on - very pretty girl. She's also what we call a domino. And from the same litter are these three others (there were more but they have gone to their new homes). Lappie colours can sometimes be a bit of a lucky dip - always fun when people want something special! These guys will have stronger markings when they get older. male female male (love this boy!)
  21. Ok, that was lame I know, but I have a headcold and its the best I can do at the moment! :D Kepalaites, you know the score, name, dog and your BBQ goodies. However, the catch is that we won't be there this time around as we'll be in Adelaide - but I'm sure you guys can organise yourselves, and I expect to see LOTS of happy zoomie pics!!
  22. From the Age online today - see http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/hero-dog...0825-13qss.html I imagine a GD wanted out would make some noise!! At least he is ok - sad for the owner's cats though. Hero dog saves owners from fire Thomas Hunter - August 25, 2010 - 8:03AM Commander Colin Harris of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade said the dog, reportedly a Great Dane, was desperately clawing at a door to escape thick smoke and flames coming from the bedroom of a unit in Hodgson Street, Heidelberg, about 9.45pm. He said the sounds made by the dog and a working smoke detector raised the alarm for the owners, who were unaware the fire was burning in a bedroom. ''All the flames were coming out of a bedroom window. Firefighters told me it was pretty savage. The flames were actually setting fire to the fence next door,'' Commander Harris told The Age. ''Firefighters found two cats in the kitchen and they were unfortunately deceased. When they got inside the house, the crew found the dog cowering in a cooler part of the house. So the dog was actually quite clever in finding that cooler spot. ''Once they made access through the front door, the dog then took off running straight through the front door, so he was very lucky.'' Commander Harris said the fire highlighted the importance of ''keeping smoke detectors in good working order and being mindful of where portable heaters are placed in relation to furniture and bedding''. Intensive care paramedic Craig Hazelwood said he arrived to find both people were already outside the burning home. ''The woman told us that she had no idea the house was on fire until she opened a bedroom door and was confronted by a wall of smoke,'' Mr Hazelwood said. ''We assessed the pair but thankfully they had escaped any serious injury or breathing problems. They had suffered only minor smoke inhalation. ''Even my eyes were sore after standing nearby the house for a few minutes, so I imagine that they'll have sore eyes and a cough for a little while yet." The cause of the fire, which resulted in about $100,000 damage to the home, was to be investigated today.
