Do you have a pic Flaves? How tall is it? Sounds like what I'm after

Two males together are fine. Keep them seperate whist eating and seperate them when you can't directly supervise them (at least for the first few months). Enjoy your new puppy .

No I don't work at all.

I didn't say raising two pups is impossible, but it is much more challenging than most people realise. Either way I was responding to Bear&Dukes post - getting two pups at the same time does not not 'make life easier'. My dogs are here for me, not to keep each other company

lol well she's not a complete nightmare I've taught her from day one to settle in the pen/run, which I think has helped. We have occasional days where she barks her head off and paces around like a maniac, but mostly she settles down and sleeps ..then wakes up raring to go again! When she's on she on, but she can relax too.
-
My Mal pup gets taken out 2 (sometimes 3) x per day, walking or swimming, for 15-20 mins at a time. Plus 2 or 3 five minute training sessions per day (tracking and/or obedience). That seems to work for her. In between she chills out in either the outside run or indoor pen, usually sleeps during in this time. If she's still feral she gets a big lump of frozen roo tail to work on. She's 3 and a half months old My Ridgeback needed no-where near that amount at that age. More like a 10 min walk around the block and a little play time in the yard. I think it really depends on the dog.

6-7 x per day sounds a little excessive to me. Try a food with less grain and see if that helps. Are you serious? Apart from the fact that it means double the time, double the mess, double the commitment, double the costs and double the work (probably even more so when it comes to training), two puppies are very likely to bond more strongly with each other than the handler, that in itself is a major problem. Be glad you waited a year, your 12 month old hasn't even matured yet!

Thanks for the link, I am hoping these chew things will save our couch....maybe? :D Saving the couch is easy - just block access to it ;)

She has very expressive vocal cords too ;) Been out training heelwork this morning, she's doing great. I love this little pup :D

Puppies, A Social Experience Apparently
Red Fox replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Many dogs are territotial and will protect 'their' car. Sticking your hand through a car window to touch a dog is stupid, sticking your childs face through a car window is insane. Get yourself some of these: http://shop.vebopet....for-travel.html -
Rescue Lumping Breederswith Byb And Pet Shops
Red Fox replied to Kavik's topic in General Dog Discussion
Load of bullshit if you ask me. There are many reasons why someone may NEED a dog bred with certain traits - pedigree or not. Are we going to find all our guide dogs, military dogs, police dogs and service dogs in the pound now? I doubt it. What happens when all the "good" dogs run out? Do we wait for them to be dumped and recycled again? Like Agility dogs said - "My interest is not in rescuing dogs, it is in training dogs, the best I can do with the time I have is to make sure I look after my dogs and encourage others who I meet to do the same." People who think that all breeders should be banned need to look a little deeper. It's not that simple. -
The deals direct one is only 50cm high, I'd think most large breed pups would jump that with ease.. I've been looking around for one about 150cm wide. The only options I've found so far are to either buy a baby/pet gate plus multiple exensions (Big W has a nice tall one in theor pet section with extensions available, but it's pricey. Would work out to $200+ to cover the size we need) or to join two cheaper gates together (via extensions). Both options work out rather expensive though and perhaps not too sturdy either.

I would walk away very fast from any club that banned treats for a food driven dog. Learn how to channel his food drive and you'll have one very focussed, easy to train young dog.

I too would love to know where you get deer antlers, they aren't dangerous for a puppy? http://www.whelpingsupplies.com.au/index.php?_a=viewCat&catId=40 Frozen kongs are good for teething pups, as are big chunks of frozen (raw) roo tail or lamb necks. Just feed them in the crate or chuck a tarp or old towel down for inside.

Sentinal and Interceptor cover tapeworm. Advocate does not though..
-
I'd say you're probably feeding her too much ;)
-
Ditto. Why start with a problem?
-
I agree. Build a run and fill it with things he is 'allowed' to destroy - toys, bones, boxes, plastic bottles, etc. A run will prevent him from eating things that he shouldn't or being baited by nasty neighbours, it would also eliminate the need for the boundary collar. In between just have him inside with you.

Which vaccine did the vet use? Kei had HUGE lumps with both his 12 and 16 week C5 vaccs (1/2 tennis ball sized, lasted 4-6 weeks). At the time I was told it was 'normal', in hindsight I should never have allowed him to be vaccinated with the C5 again after the first reaction. 16 month booster we gave an antihistamine and C3 with no reaction. Titer tested 18 months later and boosted with Parvac only (no reaction). I doubt I'll have him vaccinated again.. I was told be a vet that the Fort Dodge brand of vaccine has a higher rate of reaction than most too and that they often see similar reactions from a C5 but rarely from a C3.
