Sounds like you need a security guard as opposed to dogs. A trained guard on the door would be more valuable in my opinion, not only as a deterent but also as someone who is trained to handle trouble until the police arrive if need be. It would probably be cheaper too OT and being nosey but did you own dogo argentinos here or O/S? My OH met a few in Europe and fell in love with them however I was under the impression that they were banned/restricted in Australia??

There are lots of things that you can add to dry food to make it more interesting - yogurt, eggs, sardines, meat, chicken necks, veggies etc. Doesn't have to be boring  As far as grinding bones you can get the butcher to do that if need be, but whole is usually better

I've seen some sort of insert that you can put in the footwell. Perhaps that would help stop him from wriggling down in there. Can't remember where I saw it though, Waggle maybe?? eta, here: http://waggle.com.au/egr-b25/seat-extender-p363

I have found the KNPV line dutchies and malinois to be a lot more civil than there FCI line counterparts. It is impossible to get a Belgian Malinois or Dutch Shepherd with FCI pedigree papers which aren't fake. Can you elaborate on this please? nickojoy- why do you say: Just curious..

Kei barks at the wombat on the old RSPCA add then looks behind the TV for it. He likes watching Leerburg vids too. Unfortunately never learns anything though The rest he doesn't seem to care about unless there is a lot of barking on the TV then he might come in for a look and occasionally bark back.

What's A Super Palatable Kibble?
Red Fox replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Not sure how big you need the kibble to be? Something small you could try cat biscuits or a bit larger the Natures Gift mini treats are good. -
Agreed. She will get the idea pretty quickly.

Or you ask the doc about desexing instead of TL Or you need to make a trip to the school to collect an 'interesting' item from your sons bag which turns out to be training gear that you put in there after your session the previous afternoon

As a puppy I never left him home alone for more than 2-3 hours, inside in the puppy pen. As an adult the longest I have left him is around 4 hours (in the house alone) though I think he would be fine for longer if I had to.

You dont mean something like this do you? http://www.classicusc.com/Mendota_EZ_Train...ash_p/00904.htm which looks like a normal leash with a ring attached.

Dogstardaily.com has some info available for download. "Before you get your puppy" has plenty of easy to understand info on crate training, toilet training and important developmental milestones from memory :D

Petshop Activist At Shopping Centre Yesterday
Red Fox replied to HeavyPaws's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd second that. The information you describe covers all the the things DOLers have posted about for ages. Good to see it collected into one handout...& being given to the public. x 2 What a great idea. And much more effective than making a scene. I'd love to see a fact sheet like that available for download. There are no petshops around here but I'd be more than willing to post one up on the local noticeboard As far as it being illegal, I don't see how. If you are on public property, not causing a scene and not naming anyone in particular you're not really doing anything wrong. -
Sick Of Big Dogs Stalking My Swf What Can I Do?
Red Fox replied to MalteseLuna's topic in General Dog Discussion
You and your super soaker SA This is interesting as it's the other end of the spectrum. I often have problems with people letting their SWF race up to my large (on leash) dog. I can understand it would be quite intimidating when reversed! What do you think the other owners response would have been if you had called out to her before her dog charged at yours? I'm not sure what you'd say to her to make her take you seriously and keep her dog away? Perhaps tell her yours has come down with a nasty bout of kennel cough so best they keep their distance -
Corvus I try to be polite too. I live in a small town where people LOVE to gossip. But there comes a point where you just get fed up! I wouldn't go out of my way to yell at someone who had their dog off leash. BUT, when their dog is rushing at mine or harrassing my dog in any way and the owner sees no problem with it you have to draw the line somewhere! And sometimes I have just had enough and blow my top. Last week a lady was walking her small dog off leash across our local oval. I came around the corner with my on leash dog and hers ran towards mine, the woman immediately called her dog and appologised then asked me if she could say hello. I wasn't going to yell at her, it was a mistake. Two days later (same area) I get rushed at be a SWF who's owner could clearly see us and could clearly HEAR me telling my dog to 'leave it' and that I CLEARLY did not look comfortable about it, then TOLD me to just "Let them say hello". Did not call her dog off, even when fuffy was running around stirring up my dog! I lost it! Why should I have to put up with that kind of behaviour from idiots? My only regret was that I actually waited for a few minutes hoping she would call the bloody thing back and didn't boot it off like a fluffy white soccer ball. I hope she now tells all her friends to watch out for the crazy lady with the big brown dog when they are walking their dogs off leash. Would make my life a whole lot easier! eta, I also know a lady that walks her two elderly JRT's off leash and always has. The dogs are well controlled, never approach or rush at others and very obedient. Beyond me not agreeing with the off leash part it's not a problem for me. Unfortunately these dog are the exception though.

Kei started cocking his leg at 6 months. Now at almost 2 he sometimes squats, sometimes cocks, depending on what is more comfortable. To be honest cocking his leg doesn't bother me in the slightest. He's more accurate when he cocks his leg and doesn't miss and pee on his front feet of chest like he does somethimes when he squats he's never cocked his leg in the house and usually pees on the same bush in the yard when he does it at home. I've never understood what the issue with leg cocking is? If they're not marking all over the place then why do people see it as a issue

Allergic Reaction After Having Vaccination
Red Fox replied to Outkast1972's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep, mine had reactions to his 12 and 16 week C5's. Not as severe as yours, but a swelling where the needle went in almost tennis ball in size that hung around for well over a month! When it came time for the 16 month booster I saw a different vet and requested an antihistamine followed 30 mins later by a C3. This had no reaction and from now on I will be titre testing and only vacc every 3 years if need be. I was told (by the vet) that Fort Dodge has a much higher rate of reactions than other vaccines and that reactions to C5's are common. If my dog had reacted as strongly as yours I would not be vaccinating again. -
Yep Wouldn't make a difference. There would still be the idiot owner who just wanted to "let their dog say hello".
-
You are more polite then I am I had my whinge about this in OT the other day. What I really meant to say to the nice lady who's lovely little dog was rushing at mine was "can you please call your dog?" Instead it came out like FOR F*CKS SAKE!! #%$@ *&$% )((&*&!!!!!. Ooops

Do you think BARF is a better option than prey model? I was looking into prey model rather than BARF because my dog usually won't eat veggies, I guess he's a typical boy huh? For my dog yes, otherwise I wouldn't feed it At the end of the day I think it depends on what the dog does best on and what you have access to. Dogs done necessarily need veggies, but they do provide fibre/roughage which is not otherwise available in just meat and bone (though would be if you were able to provide whole animals including the fur and feathers). I also add some fresh fruit, parsley, garlic, eggs and kelp to my veggie mix. My dog won't eat raw fruit (besides apple) or veg on it's own but he will eat it all pulped up together with the supplements and mixed in with his meat. Perhaps buy some premade BARF patties and see how you go. Or borrow/buy some of the books suggested and make up a small amount for your dog to try eta: just saw this in the member marketplace (2 Ian Billinhurst books) http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=198408 You won't be able to acess it as it's in OT and you don't have enough posts but you could PM Belgian Blue and ask her if you were interested

And there is a difference between someone who breeds to improve their lines and someone who breeds just for the hell of it. Registered breeders included. What does someone who breeds their pet to produce unpapered puppies contribute? Cute pets for loving homes? Perhaps. But those 'loving homes' would do better to obtain their pet from a registered breeder who knows their lines and does the appropriate health testing. How does the OP know that her dogs were suitable for breeding? How well does she know their lines? Why does she think that her dog was a suitable match for her bitch? Because they are both purebred? Sorry, just because she loves her dogs doesn't make them suitable for breeding IMO. Yes, but you are not a breeder. You are not expected to know all the in's and out's. If an owner wants to call their yellow lab golden that's fine with me. but if it was a breeder I'd run a mile! If they don't know the correct colour names then you have to wonder what else they don't know about. So the OP will become a registered breeder if they ever breed again? Great. Perhaps if and when that happens, when they pour their heart and soul into their chosen breed only to see it run into the ground by BYB's with no idea, they will realise what the hell everyone here is so upset about.
-
The Ian Billinghurst books are good (though they are BARF not Prey diet) I started by doing some Google searches, reading up a bit and contacting several breeders (my breed and others -but all large breeds) who fed raw and asking for advice.
-
But I never thought about id bands before and I thought I was pretty ready to register. So it I was and had my first litter and asked this question I would have been crucified and all over a trivial thing. I know she is a BYB but at the start of the thread no one knew and the replys were still harsh. Most people picked it when she said she has 'golden' puppies Labs dont come in gold.

Gooey Eyes In My Lagotto Pup!
Red Fox replied to mygirlruby's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dog always had goopy eyes right up until I put him on Inner Health Plus powder. Goopy eyes disappeared in under a month If eye infections/problems have been ruled out then start looking at your dogs diet or perhaps allergies. Also get the vet to check for things like distichiasis and entropian. -
Why? Because they refuse to support people who are destroying the breeds that they are working so hard to preserve and improve? No because I'm not perfect and may make mistakes but according to this site that is a big no no, and if I did and asked for help I'd be crucified. An unregistered (but apparently planned) litter is a pretty big mistake. This forum does not support BYB. Never has and never will.
