  1. You know what I washed her on Sunday with Episoothe and used the conditioner too and it seems MUCH better. She has dryish skin and it seems to me the shampoo and conditioner really does add moisture to her coat. Avoleen would be equivalent I guess. I'm happy and so is she.
  2. I was at Pet barn and Petstock today. Has any one tried these shampoos: 1. One is VETBASIX COAL TAR SHAMPOO. I notice coal tar is sometimes used fro two legged people for dandruff. But this shampoo sounds quite aggressive. 2. The other is an american brand with selenium sulphide I think. But I can't remember the name (stipid me!) Thanks
  3. sas, mine doesn't look that bad. its really light with little patches of dry scaly skin/dandruff.
  4. I get dry skin in winter. maybe its like that. The Megaderm is a omega 3 & 6 oil, so i'll up that to almosta normal theraputic dose and wash less frequently to see if that makes it better. Thanks.
  5. One of mine this winter has just a bit of light scaly dandruff. Looks just like dandruff. A vet looked at it and didn't think too much of it (was there about something else). I give her a slight dose of Megaderm and the vet suggested to increase the does to a full dose of Megaderm given her size. I bath them about once a fortnight with Episoothe or something similar. Does any one else have any other suggestions? thanks
  6. I have a similar problem with girl licking her private parts till it gets a bit sore and pink. Have been to the vets about it twice and they think its just a habit. Urination is normal and she holds on all through the night. The vet didn't think it was an infection. So I have been on her case about it when i see her do it. I think I have just about broken the habit now. I did use some bitter stuff on a q-tip around the area but not on the area directly and i think that helped.
  7. I read that rawhide has a lot chemical treatment including bleach. Sounds a bit yucky. One of mine would swallow chicken wings whole too. I now use dentabone or dentastix by pedigree.
  8. I go to Hamilton Vets. They are open 7 days with fairly long hours so if something is wrong I don't feel bad about getting an appt. They have about 4 vets. I know a couple of people that go them and find them good.
  9. I would just get a wet cloth and just use plain warm water on the face. i haven't shampooed my face for ages.
  10. I always thought that dogs were lactose intolerant and therefore we don't give them regular milk. But many people say a little bit of cheese is OK. I don't see how this matches? Anyone give a little cheese as a treat? Thanks
  11. I support the starve for 24 hours, and then chicken and rice. Small frequent amounts at first. I guess the vets prefer to see people that care too much than care too little.
  12. I think it sounds like anal glands. One of mine either scoots or has this sitting habit where he prefers to sit instead of walk and I think now this is all because of his anal glands.
  13. I'm just curious as to the difference between a regular dog food and a seniors diet. The seniors diet seem to have less protein and less fat. Why is that better for a senior dog? Also if you are feeding barf, how do you make the same adjustment to diet?
  14. She is getting better, only the occasional lick (but i guess that is sort of normal isn't it). So whatever is bothering her, is clearing up. She is a lick obsessive dog anyways. If you face could be in range more often, she would lick that too.
  15. She sleeps on my bed of course. On sign of any leakage during the night coz i guess it start to smell if she was leaking a bit. Definitely less licking of her inside of legs since its been cooler. Maybe an allergy thing???
  16. well she did go to the vets about it a couple of months ago and they couldn't find anything wrong. I thought of hip pain too, as she is 7 (small breed) and seems to have been a little stiffer in her walking on her back legs at times. Other times she is fine and runs esp to chase a cat. I had her anal glands also squeezed a few months ago too. she has always been the lazy one of my two dogs. she has never done that skipping thing. when i went to the vet about her licking a couple of months ago, he did check her joints. My gut now makes me think it is just a habit. (As i went to the vet twice about it already).
  17. Any more news on this product? I noticed it advertised in the local Petbarn brochure with words like: Chicken from Tamworth, Goulburn Lamb, Oats milled in Bordertown SA, and Salmon farmed in Tasmania. Proudly 100% Australian Made.
  18. She is desexed. I can try to tell her to stop it and she does. She used to lick the inside of her rear legs a bit too but that seems to have stopped now.
  19. I have a little girl that seems to spend some time licking her umm private parts (you know where the wee comes out) so much so that it looks a little irritated. She has been to the vets and they didn't think it was anything to worry about. No sign of infection, nothing bad, just a habit thing. Peeing habits are normal. It's actually getting better. But I was thinking would there be any harm is using "Wound-Gard" by Vibrac on it? Its an antiseptic, bitterant spray & I thought the yucky taste might put her off a bit.
  20. I have two little ones and they eat eaglepack, the fish one. I have tired the lamb one but i think they prefer the fish one. some people think it smells fish too, but i don't at all.
  21. This might sound odd, but can u just mind/borrow/foster a third dog and give it try first? I have 2 dogs and sometimes mind a third for friends/family. But it is surprising how much harder it is walking three dogs instead of two. I guess that's because we only have two hands.
  22. His on 200mg twice per day for a 8kg dog. I read some articles that say this sounds right, but to me it sounds a lot. Any one had their dog on this? thanks.
  23. Well. I have been to the vet now. She said there it wasn't really sore which is good, but sounds quite gases. I'm not to feed him till tomorrow morning. His hydration is OK, but I asked for the Lectade anyways. She said it would be good and would cause no harm (for my other dog). He is on metronidazole just in case (200mg twice a day), I read it was used to treat Gardiasis (sp?), and is on tablets called Direa for a couple of days. He loves to drink the Lectade. Seems happy enough. I hope it going to be a peaceful night.
  24. yes i told them it has been a few days. They sounded busy and i guess i'm lucky the vet I go to stays open late. I admit he does seem in reasonable spirits. Still looking out the window at the cats and barking. So not overly lethargic. He just went outside again for the runs. not much left inside. Fart as well, which he normally doesn't so there's a bit of gas around. i might syringe a couple of mls of water every couple of hours to keep him drinking till 6pm tonite. He is barking now at the cats and running around to see them. I imagine, no dinner tonite; gastroltye for dogs( what ever its called); and scoban will be whats on the cards. And also a special thank u to Inspector Rex over the years. If have help me a lot. He has had allergies too and you gave me great advice then too.
  25. They can't fit me in till 6pm tonite. Should I buy the human gastrolyte (orange flavour) and give that to him? is it the same as what a vet would give? He went for walk this morning and was normal for that but it's no breakfast. He seems to want to eat grass too. Well it's going to be a long wait for me today. He just lying looking out the window at the moment, but that's normal for him.
