What I don't understand then is how come you hear stories of how a bone caused an obstruction if their stomach acids are supposed to digest them. i don't get it.

Does any one give their dogs pork ribs for a dog under 10kg. Do they eat the whole thing? Does nayone konw how they manage to digest bone/cartilage? Thanks

If he is panting when its not too hot and hasn't been running around, & its quite persistant, i'd take him to the vet. i think some older dogs get congestive heart problems & can't exchange air in their lungs that well & need some medication to help. Just a thought.

i have two dogs and they don't run around much but i am surprised with how little they drink. one definitely drinks more that the other. i think it is normal to drink during the day.

How is he now? Did he keep dinner down? I know i worry when this happens to me too.

Use the high pitched excited-isn't-this-so-much-fun voice. IF you are male you will have trouble doing this in which case use the i'm-in-control-calm-good-fella voice. Mine like going I think coz of all the other doggie smells around.

I use Epi-Soothe S by Virbac with good results. It's a "Oatmeal shampoo with sperulites and chitosanide". I have also used Maleseb occassionally if he bites his paws a lot and they seem a bit moist. Epi-Soothe gets my vote, but the scent deosn't last that long. There is also another brand called PAW - Pure Animal Wellbeing, the Sensitive Skin formula, that I bought at my vets. It is OK but didn't seem to soothe that much (www.paw4pets.com) on the two occasions i have used it, but see what u think.

I feed mine barf patties and eaglepack fish formula. I give them some megaderm about three times a week. I have it in a plastic bottle (not sachets) and it last ages. one of mine has the itches occassionally now only. i think the megaderm helps a bit, but i also watch his diet. i would cehck the ingredients on the biscuits you use they. i general avoid treats/biuscuits that have wheat or corn in them. Not completely scientific but it seems to work with mine.

I have two shih tzu crosses. Only one does this sort of thing once in a blue moon. I mentioned it to the vet & they didn't seemed to concerned. He described as a sort of reverse sneeze. He sort of inhales and snorts at the same time. It might last about 30 seconds and then he is over it.

I think its the vibration. i'm not sure how to do the feet & face. do you go against the direction of the hair or with it? Any hints or tips pls. thanks

What Are Dolers Feeding Their Dogs
chuckie500 replied to Baileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
mine aren't fussy at all. I give one meal (in the morning) which is always dry food (eaglepack). I want them to know that sometimes that is all you might get (easler for someone else to feed also). The evening meal is better and rotates around: barf patties, lamb shanks, natures gift/dry food, meat & a little veg. -
Thanks everyone.I bought one. I don't think i sould say which one. But one of mine was absoluted petrified of the clippers. it took about two hours for him to come round aftre the other one had ago. At first I thought he would never get used to them. I have this new respect for professional groomers!

I noticed in the latest Petstock catalogue there are two adnis clippers on sale. 1. One is the Andis Pet groomer Kit (usually $99, on special for $59) and 2. Andis Pro Clipper (usually $299, on special for $199). My question is this. I have two shih tzus about 8.2kg each. I guess i liek to keep it short in summer and let it go long in winter. This is just for home use. Will the cheaper Pet Groomer kit do the trick? Or will it just die after a year? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Up to now i have just used a pair of scissors. Thanks

Paralysis Ticks In Sydney - Which Suburbs Have Them?
chuckie500 replied to kbo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I read the northern beaches, ie, the peninsula esp on the Pittwater side is really bad. eg. Avalon, Newport etc. -
I noticed that advantix has one as its active ingredients as permoxin. Does that mean there is no point using permoxin on a dog that is already on advantix, or might it increase the dose of permoxin on your dog that would not be advisable? Does any one here use both advantix and permoxin spray or rinse as well? Thanks.

I generally feed dry in the morning, and then barf patties in the evening. sometimes i put some dry food with the patties in the evening but have had no problems with this. I mean we eat meat and veges and carbs and fried food and boiled food and things like sushi and oysters (which are raw) all in the one meal and we have no problems.

i have similar thing going on with one of mine tonite. just sometime this afternoon, he started to limp and doesn't want to use his front left foot/paw. he was outside for about half an hour. maybe he slipped? the paw seems fine and he has no tenderness on the paw or foot when i feel around it. so what happenned to yours?
-
Well she has kept everything down so far, but little as yet coming out the other end (but i guess that takes a little while when you haven't digested anything for 2 days). Keep us informed how sophie goes tomorrow. I hope it's all OK.
-
If its been like that for a week, i'd go to the vet. if it's smelly makes me think its infected. I think th stuff like illium is good for removing waX ans drying out the ear.

Yes fried chicken sounds nice. Anythng fried usually gets me going. Poor sophie - what is she having done? Will she be in and out on the same day? Yes we worry and loose sleep - i guess because they can't tell us whats wrong. I spent the night sleeping (pretending to sleep) on the sofa with one of mine all night when he had kennel cough. We give them our promise we do all that we possibly can for them when we adopt them. I hope sophie recovers quickly. I like u would opt out of the dinner to be with her.

Is this really good? I haven't heard of it before? Is is like a yoghurt suppliment for dogs? Do vets recommend it? Are there any problems with it? Sorry about the firing line of questions.

Molly is better today, thanks for asking Cavnrott. I walked her, just a small walk this morning. i managed to have some leave today, thank goodness. She ate some chicken that i cooked in the mocrowave. At 6.30am i gave a few pieces, and then again at 8.30am, and then few more at about 12.30pm. She even went to drink some of the doogie lucazade by herself (she normally doesn't drink much). Tonite, I gave her some more chicken for dinner at around 6pm, about a quarter a cup, and so far so good. Tomorrow I'll go to about 2/3rds of her normal amount of food but keep to the chicken. And on sunday i'll introduce some of her normal kibble again. Does that sound like a good plan? Both are asleep on the floor next to me. I hope my apeptite picks up soon.

I'd ask a vet. Do dogs get their blood pressure tested? I remember the silky terrier I had growing up eventually had to have medication in her latter years to help her heart.
-
oh yes cavnrott, they did have good feel around, and the vet could find anything unusual. i guess has she found something hard or tender she would have suggested further tests.
-
Thanks four all your thoughts. I syringe about a ml of the doggie lucazade very now and then in her mouth & she ahsn't brought that up yet. tomorrow morning is the test with a little bit of chicken. Yes i hope she is much better tomorrow, as I think I have lost more weight, than she has, with worry.
