I did it!!! I cut Charlie's nail without so much drama. After an hour and a half, I managed to clip Charlie's nails... (he got bored, that he fell asleep on me). He didn't even wake up, so I can give him a bone for being so good. I didn't cut too much... just cut a very little bit on each nail. I will cut again this weekend again... hopefully, my palms won't be sweaty and not so nervous this time round. But, I'm still looking at some dermel... there is so much to choose from!!!

Do You Go To Dog School In The Rain?
W Sibs replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah, I use too with my old dogs.. and I probably will again for Charlie. Despite hating the rain, i don't function well in the cold... but, I'll suffer through that for my dogs -
OMG... I was just on their website, and interested in doing it myself

They are on the inside of his lip, like pimple type bump things... i think we might take a trip to the vet to be sure. interesting... once you do, can you let me know what the vet says? I'm very curious now.. ;)

hey, i've never heard a dog having uclers before! best to take him to the vet for a check. even if it's to ease your mind.

8 Week Old Beagle Puppy - Toilet Training Help!
W Sibs replied to rocky_beagle's topic in Puppy Chat
Hey, congrates on your new beagles (photos please ) Yeah, I use Science Diet dog food... it's the only dry food my pup will eat (and trust me, I've been through other few brands to find the one he likes!). I would encourage to keep training him outside too That's so good that he learned that such a young age, there are people out there who are having problem housetraining their pup! Can you get a doggy door for him or leave the door open for him? We always leave the back sliding door for Charlie so he can go outside to do his business. -
what if he does those things on his own? That's ok, as long as he's not forced to do them. Tilba used to jump up on the furniture & we have a 1/2 wall from the room she sleeps in to the loungeroom. On a few occasions she even jumped over it. I had to put barricades to stop her. no, tricks are for fun. the basic commands are what we really work on (the sit, stay, drop etc) although i love watching him roll over.. LOL charlie is a jumper too. consider that he is a tiny dog.. he jumps very very high. we had baby gates to stop him coming into the living room when we were out... he jumped it over easy. we put the gate away now, there is no use of it..

what if he does those things on his own?
-
really? I didn't know that! i'll stop telling him to do that then... thanks for the heads up
-
awesome.. thanks! yeah, i want to teach him how to wave hello and good bye.. and i was told, start with shaking hands first only he won't let me have his paw! haha
-
this is silly.. but i need advice on how to teach my pup how to shake hand and high five? he knows how to do other tricks like sit drop stand stay roll over (roll to the left and starting to learn roll to right) play dead spin right and left he knows how to search for treats stick them up (he sit back and put his paws up) but he won't shake hands or high five..

hey all... ever since I accidently cut one of my dad's dogs nail to close and it bled a little bit, I've been really really scared of cutting dogs nails. i would like to overcome this fear, because I need to cut my pup's nails. So far, I've been taking him to the vet to get his nail cut... they are happy to do it when they are puppies, but when it gets older, they won't.. suggesting that i should let the pup run on concrete to file itself down. Any advice on cutting pup's nails? or even filing the pup's nails? How much should i cut? Also, my pup has different colour nails... he has a few black ones, some white one and some dark brown one... white ones, i can see that you don't cut to the pink.. but black and brown nails are harder to tell.

umm.. i usually wipe charlie's paws before coming into the house, if he has been in the mud. there is always towels by the front door or the backdoor... it's kinda like, if your kids hands get dirty.. you wipe their hands before they can touch anything

My friend wants to get a choc lab and it will be an outside dog... as a puppy, she will lock the puppy in the laundry room and till it gets old, she will leave the door open for the pup. She is not even going to let it sleep inside for the first few nights they get it. My reaction was But, I know my friend will be an awesome dog owner, she will love her dog, play with it, train it, take it on trips... only, she wants an outside dog. Her family dogs are very happy dogs, they have never step foot in a house before in their life. I've been trying to convince her that the dog will be happier inside with her, but she tells me that she doesn't want to have doggy smell in the house, and all her family dogs have always been outside dogs. The dogs will always have people playing with it, walk it and will get plenty of attention. That dog is going to be very loved, well cared for.. but, sleeping arrangement is outside. But, bottomline for her is, the dog is a dog. They aren't children nor they are human. They are family, but a family pet. Best, if they learn that from the beginning. For me, it's a foreign thing to let a dog sleep outside and be strictly an outside dog. As long as I can remember, all our dogs have always slept inside (most often in a bed with someone.. LOL), I don't even remember not sitting on the couch watching tv without a dog on there with me... they make really good pillows to lean on.. haha. To me, dog is part of my family, and I don't want to lock him out and exclude him from anything. We have several good argument over this... I understand where she is coming from, and she is coming to terms where I'm coming from. So, OP, I understand where you are coming from... as long as you give all the exercise, love and attention you can give to your pup, then your pup is going to be ok inside or out. As long, as the pup has a comfortable bed and it's warm, the pup will learn to adjust to stay outside Good Luck.

He is soooo cute when he does this, I'm sure he's thinking many deep thoughts .... yeah, i'm convince my puppy is daydreaming about leaves.. i think it's common that puppy owners are worry warts... haha
-
he'll be alright... just let him have his quiet time sniffing the air, and stare at the sky. he will let you know if he is not happy...
-
Oh dear... was he sooky when he was a pup? Hard is it may be, I'll just ignore it. If he not hurt physically or sick, and just whinging for no reason, then let him.

hi! quick walks around the block... things to sniff, flowers to pee on, leaf to bring home (my pup does this)... it keeps their mind busy. if i was stuck at home all the time, i will go crazy too.. LOL training is good to. learning new tricks is always fun.
-
charlie does the same... he moves his legs like he is running too. very cute. he snores too... the first time he did, he shocked himself awake from it...
-
my pup does that too. but, only with his food. My theory is Charlie watches me take food out of the cupboard/fridge and then put it back in there when I'm done with it. So, maybe, he thinks that's what he should do with his food. He thinks I hide food in the cupboard/fridge... therefore, he hides his bones and other food he is done with too. i know where all his spots are around the house and yard... so if there is a bone/meat more than 24 hours old, it gets thrown out.
-
shyla and charlie are the same age.. i just realise that! haha Charlie is 4 months today! a few weeks ago, i notice that charlie lost 4 bottom teeth.. he looked very funny, they have all grown back and now he lost 4 teeth from the top.. yep, still looks funny... haha i'm on a look out on missing teeth because i want to put it in a scrapbook, i'm making... but, have found nothing. is it possible that he swallow his baby teeth?! i love GSD ears, especially as pups.
-
i'm still waiting for my pup to go to his crazy stage... he is a very laid back, chilled kind of fella... who does have his crazy puppy energy burst, but we usually go for a walk or a run when that happens. i think that's how he is going to be when he gets older. one of my dad's dog is 7 years old... and, is more a puppy than charlie!!!
