Yeah, I know!! I can't believe is she 1. This morning, she came to bed for her morning cuddles and I was having flash back of when she first came home and how, she alone, changed the energy in the family. No presents... just because she has everything she needs/want Tonight, she will get a Macca's ice cream cone (she doesn't have to share with Charlie), then take her to a park where there she can run and do zoomie to her heart content (that's her most favourite thing to do is run and run fast!). If she is lucky, she will see some wild rabbits to chase... she doesn't catch them though (although she can), she just like running after them.

As long as they have shelter and a cool place to lay down... then they should be ok. Sydney has been having major heatwaves (high 30 to low 40 degrees) on and off for a few weeks now, and Emmy spends a lot of time in the bathroom. Whenever she goes outside, she loves it when i spray cold water on. Most of the time, she just sleeps and rest.

It takes a very long while for Charlie and Emmy to get through 1 pig ear together. We are taking about weeks here. I use to give them 1 each but they always end up sharing one (Charlie will have it first, then Emmy will take it when Charlie doesn't want it anymore, then Charlie will get it back again when Emmy is bored with it). They love deer antler bone though... they can spend hours with them.

Emmy gives the best cuddles when I'm feeling sad, then she will try to do something funny to make me feel better. Charlie offers me toys when I'm sad. Or, he will just lay beside me and lick me comfortly.

Dear Emmy, Happy Birthday!!!! Have to be honest with you, baby girl, that your HuDaddy, Charlie and I wondered if you were ever going to make it to your 1st birthday. You were such an accident prone (you were constantly running into mirrors, walls, or falling off the couch, bed, fence, stairs) but, I think that's because you were so full of life and want to live every minute and second of it, that you were always on the go. People to see, brother to annoy, daddy to boss around, mummy to sook up too, things to destroy.... I have caught Charlie falling asleep watching you, because you tire him out by him just watching you!!! I have to admit that you weren't the most easiest puppy in the world to raise. In fact, there was a period where you turned me off having another puppy (but that has changed now)!! You were a bitch to toilet train, a bully at puppy pre school, had no attention span, didn't like strangers, other dogs and kids and reacted to EVERYTHING. But despite all that, you have taught and gave us so much. You taught me how to be creative with training you. It never cease to amaze me how insanely smart you are... you picked up tricks and basic command so quickly. I never had to teach you anything twice!! We did 1 minute x 10 sessions a day and in one day you will know how to sit, drop, target and how to shake hands (with both paws). You have open me up in different style in training. You gave Charlie a job of being a big brother and teaching you how to be calm. You are really an angel sent down here for Charlie... you're the reason why Charlie is still around. You're the reason why he is still walking, playing and simply enjoying life. You taught him how to play again, even if it's annoying him and stealing his stuff.. so he had to get out of his bed to chase you to get his things back. But, you did annoy him a lot when you kept grabbing his tails and his ears though. You gave your HuDaddy, well, you. You are such a Daddy's girl and he loves that... that's why you get away with murder with him (but you know that!). He got to experience what it is to have a healthy, happy, energetic puppy who loves doing everything with him. Can't believe a tiny little white fluff ball that only weight 1.9kg can come into our lives and completely changed it for the better!! Now you have became the sweetest, wonderful, amazing and cuddliest dog. You still have your crazy moments (and I hope you continue to have them for the rest of your life because those moments are hilarious) but you are becoming the dog I know you can (and hope) to be. You have calmed down a lot, you're so much more focus, you are more confident and simply the joy in my life. You always walk around with that goofy grin of yours, always wanting to play, do your little happy dance when I bring out the clicker and on those rare days where you aren't happy... all it takes is a little piece of cheese to make your world right again... seriously, girl, I really love you. Life is not the same without My Emmy. xoxo

Is he in pain somewhere? Is he physically ok?

I don't know if there is a Japanese Spitz Club in NSW. If there was, I'll probably join

At the park. On the walk way in front of my house.

That's not always possible, or sensible. Shae flew from Perth to Melbourne mid-summer. To drive there and back would have taken us over a week in searing heat for the most part, and she was much much safer coming on a 3 1/2 hour flight where there was minimal risk of her dehydrating or even getting overheated. That may not be the case in a drive across the Nullabor. I was contacted as soon as she was booked in, so I knew she was on the way, and we were there in plenty of time to meet her. That's true...

This is one of many reason why I will always go out and pick up my pup personally from the breeder (doesn't matter how far I have to travel... Emmy was a 8-10 hour trip there and 8-10 hour trip back). For me, personally, there is just too many risk on flying a pup.

Maybe personally talk to your vet. Especially if you have been going to them for years and have a good relationship with them.

Do you have a credit card? Get a credit card for emergency like these. Can you offer to put a deposit down and make payment plans?

;) too funny!! My friend's Lab is scared of them... he sees them an literally runs the opposite direction.

Especially when you watch those medical shows on TV and see how doctors treat humans when they're under GA No wonder they wake up bruised and sore!!! Dogs are usually placed and rolled. With muscles fully relaxed, a lot of stuff can be put 'out'. Yep, and that is why Charlie always gets a massage when he wakes up from GA...

Distract her with something she loves doing and her attention is on you... eg, play, food, training etc

You can desensitise Willow to the sound?

I know 4 is my limit. But, I'm happy with my 2 (although, sometimes I swear Emmy has enough energy for 2 dogs!! )

How I taught one of my dogs to walk backward is placing a table parallel to the wall. Gave him enough space to walk through it but he can't turn around. First we walk through it a couple of time, and then I stood in the middle... so he has to stop and then back himself out... once he got comfortable doing that... I will stand at the other end and tell him to "back". I slowly removed the table away. With my girl... I just used capturing the behaviour. Every time she took a step back, I clicked and reward. She is smart enough to know what I want her to do. It will help developing focus in a highly distracting environment. That's something that can be a challenge with a little dog bred to work and think for himself. You don't need "puppy school" so much as obedience or pre-agility training. It starts the process of teaching your dog to work for reward in and around other dogs. No offence but unless your front yard is fenced, having him offlead out there is tragedy waiting to happen. I was thinking the same thing... they usually start having selective hearing at 6 months old... My 2 have solid recall and I don't trust them off leash in front of my house... but then again, my 2 have high prey drive. They will chase anything that moves... eg, cat, bird, lizards, roaches...

I would be very upset if I saw anyone handling my dogs like that...

Not till he is 12 months old Their bones aren't fully developed yet and jumping in agility can ruin their joints. Why don't you take him to Obedience classes instead. Some clubs have mini and puppy proof agility courses that puppies can try. Mostly it's running through tunnels, hopping over little jumps, walking the beams and see saw... fun stuff like that

it's normal it depends on the dog.
