  1. I loved reading your post. You sound like such a lovely, typical country person. (I'm orginally not far from Deni !) Good luck with your new mates
  2. Poor baby. Pleased she is Ok & thanks for sharing your story. I will never buy those bones now.
  3. Absolutely. I 'came' with a rabbit, a hare, and a dog, and they were non-negotiable. It was understood they wouldn't be the last pets I would ever have. OH and I share the responsibility for the dogs because that's the way OH approaches sharing a life with someone. If he was happy to let me do my own thing with them, it wouldn't be so important that I discuss animal-related things with him to such an extent. I would definitely not be with someone who was not cool with pets. I'd never be happy. I love the fact that they are every bit as important to OH as they are to me. I love that I can trust him to make good decisions for them. It's nice having someone who cares about them as much as I do and knows them as well as I do to help me make decisions about them. Your OH sounds identical to mine corvus. It's lovely
  4. HAHAHA we dont have dogs YET and hey its they tolerate it then good for them. But just out of curiasity what kind of fruit do you feed your pooches Just about any over-ripe fruit wantsapuppy. Apples, bananas, pears, strawberries, rockmelon, oranges :D
  5. Same here - just made it all about Jangels & waited until he'd had a couple of beers :D
  6. Dilute I use approximately 1/2 cup in a bucket of water & as previously posted metho is a great cleaner too. Probably the same dilution as vinegar & metho makes the floors dry faster as well.
  7. Good old vinegar is an excellent cleaner that also is effective at neutralising unwanted smells.
  8. I was always advised to stay clear of elbows above 0:0
  9. What a beautiful photo Mason _Gibbs - it speaks 1000 words
  10. New Years eve 2009 we pts our darling Jake who was our nearly 15 yr old Lab. We were both truly devastated, especially my husband. I was so lonely without a dog in our lives & hated coming home to the absence of smiling face & wagging tail. I waited a couple of weeks, joined DOL & started a search for a new Labrador baby. Rang a breeder who had a litter & we clicked almost instantly. She had over 40 names on her waiting list but offered us her pick of the litter during our second phone call, a very light coloured yellow boy. After much debate, one of our nieces came up with his name, J for Jake + Angel = Jakes angel = Jangels. I fell in love from the very first emailed photo. 6 weeks later we drove 8 hrs to bring him home. He was there with 4 of his remaining litter mates but it was Jangels that came up to us smothering us with puppy kisses. I was in heaven ! Jangels helped immensely to heal 2 very broken hearts. When Jangels was a year old, I decided to get serious with my hubby (had been hinting for a while!) in my quest for a brother for Jangels. I knew Jangels would love a mate & I wanted to have 2 Labradors. He was having a couple of beers on a Friday night, for once got my wording right so got my way. Spent all that weekend on the phone, before he changed his mind, until I found the right breeder & puppy again. Same experience, fell in love with the first emailed photo of our gorgeous black Lab boy. Drove 8 hrs to the same town to pick Louis up from Jangel's breeder. (Louis's breeder was at a dog show that weekend) Our family is complete now & it's perfect :D Sorry for the long post !
  11. I have a Lab with a quiet calm nature. Jangels is only 21 months old, & I frequently receive compliments about how quiet (& gentle) he is. He so laid back people have assumed he is 7 or 8 years old. He is very spoilt & has very little time without human company. So I am guessing this combined with his pedigree has resulted in our beautiful boy's easy going perfect nature
  12. Even as adults they need your time & to be very much part of your life. They are a family breed through & through & thrive on human company IMO
  13. I have had great results in the past with Comfortis tablets
  14. No, not all. I have 2 Labs who will eat anything & everything
  15. I am not breeder. Both my (Labrador) puppies were choosen for us by the breeder & we couldn't be happier. And because we live 8 hrs away from both our breeders, we didn't even get to meet our boys until the day we picked them up. Lots of communication via phone calls & emailed photos.
  16. Yes that is right. I paid within this range for our beautiful boys. From my experience breeders who a) breed for quality and b) only have 1 or 2 litters a year (hand raised with love) tend to ask top of this range for a pet (to cover their expenses). And even then I believe they only break even. You get what you pay for and as a previous poster said, worth every cent
  17. what a shame; the Tuffy's are way cheaper in the DOL marketplace. I went and got 3 more for Wilbur coz they're fabulous quality toys and the price was a steal :D Suzi, Could you please tell me exactly which store in the marketplace. Thank you
  18. OMG How scary Which dog ? We couldn't feed Jake bones either as he used to choke on them too as he ate them too quickly. I watch Jangels & Louis like a hawk with their bones.
  19. Tissue / paper towel EATER here - New or used Empty toilet rolls taste good too, apparently ;)
  20. Same here My boys very rarely lift their legs on anything.
  21. Same here. My two boys are super affectionate & seem to have more personality than my last girl 20 years ago. I will stick with boys too
