  1. That is awesome. We knew one of Jangels litter brother's lived a couple of suburbs away (last year) & I tried to make contact through our breeder but had no luck. Would've loved for them to have a play every now & again. Know the stress of leaving them to go to work but now we have 2 it is much easier How is the new diet going on your boy ? Were you at the Lab show at Durack on the weekend? We loved it. So many beautiful Labs :D edited for spelling!
  2. Goodness my dog would eat 20kg's of food a day if he could!!! Worse thing for a pup is to be overweight when they growing, bad for their joints etc Yeah mine too Mason2009. Can't even leave their food to defrost in sight otherwise gone
  3. Hi Jess, I feed both my puppies VAN - puppy mix and are doing fantastic on it. I make it up with 2.5 kg human grade beef mince & the balance minced chicken frames. They have it for brekky every morning with a tblspn of natural yoghurt & I believe it has all the required nutrients in it that they need so no need to add anything. Depending on what else you are feeding as to other supplements. If I'm not feeding BARF patties for their evening meal, which I like to alternate, with chicken wings/necks, turkey necks, sardines & organ meat etc I will add cod liver oil. flaxseed oil, brewers yeast & kelp or Livermoll to their food. I don't use glucosamine as I believe that raw meaty bones are more benefical if fed daily.
  4. Cute as ..... so well done Thanks for sharing :D

  6. Because there is no other kind. But thank you for your interest.
  7. What a lovely & caring breeder you are to do this My guess is he will work out the glass door routine.
  8. I have read that Natural yoghurt added to a normal meal is supposed to help upset tummies.
  9. Pet owners also place too much trust in vets in regards to diet advice. Best $37 I've ever spent on my pets & yes absolutely life changing.
  10. VAN Complete Mix ? I feed both my boys (4 & 18 months old) on the puppy mix following my breeders recommendation. They have it for breakfast every morning with a dollop of natural yoghurt mixed in. I mix in 2.5 kgs of premium beef mince & 1 kg of minced chicken frames to 1kg of the VAN. They love it & are both doing really well on it as part of a natural diet.
  11. I totally get you! Our family fav breed is labradors and yes they do have their health issues that one needs to be aware of. We recently went through what you are currently experiencing. In June, (on DOL) we carefully looked at breeders' dam & sire hip & elbow scores along with eye issues etc. My way of navigation regarding finding the right puppy was that health scores would guide us first and we would go interstate if necessary. We didn't see Wilbur before deciding on purchasing him. We had a short list of breeders that had or were about to have litters. I spoke to them on the phone to get a 'feel' for their beliefs and values and their ability to develop a positive relationship with me and the way they raised litters etc. With health of the sire and dam being my first criteria, one of the next was the ability of the breeder to build a positive relationship with me. While it's not on some people's list it is on mine. I want a positive ongoing relationship with the breeder; i believe that it is in the best interest of the puppy for me to be able to communicate with the breeder if i have questions etc and if a breeder does not have the welfare of the puppy as their priority then it's a no go for me. Additionally, if a breeder is not respectful in communication I don't take it any further; i strike them off my list. One breeder that i spoke to on the phone illustrated to me that they did not always conduct themselves in a respectful manner when they told me of an interaction they had with someone else. I didn't put my name on their list. When i spoke to our breeder she was a lovely warm woman who communicated in a really respectful manner; I really warmed to her. Her dogs met my health score criteria. She had a great reverence for her dogs and had successfully bred other litters previously. Her references were outstanding and focused on not only the quality of the puppies but the breeders ability to develop great relationships with buyers. I put our name down on her list and only her list, even though I knew we may not get the male puppy we were looking for. I felt it was worth it to put my name down and see what happened. Luck was on our side; Wilbur was the only male in the litter and the breeder must have felt we were the right family for him as she emailed us at 3:45 am on the night the puppies were born telling us that our baby boy had been born. So, we will not see Wilbur before he flies to come to live with us permanently. I have faith in our breeder that he will be a lovely puppy...in fact she sends us frequent updates and pictures of Wilbur and his sisters, mum and the other dogs in the family. I have seen many video's of another dog that our breeder bred last year and the pup is just lovely. If i had not had this strong sense of positivity regarding our breeder i would never have accepted a puppy sight un-seen; i would have inspected the litter. This breeder has made us feel included in Wilbur's life right from the beginning and i appreciate that so much. She has been more than happy to organise Wilbur's transport home to us; i would have happily done it myself but didn't need to (and am very grateful). For a small fee she is driving a significant distance to take Wilbur to the airport on the day of his flight; which makes me feel really calm because i know he's in good hands. When i asked if she could organise Wilbur's vaccinations to be above the normal c3 range, she was more than willing to do this for us. I don't care if i have to pay more, Wilbur's physical and emotional well-being is my first concern and the breeder shares this concern with us. I would have loved to have the time to travel to see Wilbur and his litter mates prior to him coming to us; just for the sheer joy of seeing them, but this has not been possible. I have every confidence that Wilbur is the right puppy for us and we have chosen the right breeder for us. Additionally i am a strong advocate in environment being the major shaper of a dogs personality. While some parts of character are innate i believe that these are influenced positively or negatively by the environment in which they are raised. i know Wilbur is in a fabulous environment during his early development; his breeder sends us lots of pictures and updates on their wellbeing etc and I know that his adult life with us will be fabulous as well. Our two previous family dogs have lived to ripe old ages and were well behaved and deeply adored members of our family. Both were active, well behaved, loving and happy family members....so i know we raise great dogs. I hope our recent experience helps you decide what is best for you. Good luck What a lovely post suziwong66 My relationships with both my boy's breeders are so similar to what you have described. So true about environment of the breeders shaping a puppys personality. So well said. We drove 8 hours to pick up Jangels so got to see Jangels mum & litter mates & it was a wonderful experience that will never be forgotten. I have some beautiful photos from that day. And to meet his breeder & family just completed the whole experience. Congratulations on your Wilburs soon to be arrival & looking forward to many updates on your beautiful boy.
  12. I grew up with corgis, can't remember if they were pembroke or cardigan. Still have a 'soft spot' for them today even though I remember them being nippy. My first dog after leaving home was a Labrador after being introduced to them by my BF at the time. I haven't had any other breed since. Up to no 4 . I am so one eyed Labrador that I don't see any of their faults I love their natures & looks & they suit our lifestyle perfectly. They are so willing to please, affectionate, energetic but happy to laze around too. Labs are such happy dogs that I adore. No other breed makes me smile more than a beautiful Lab :) PERFECTION
  13. I started a thread on this for my Lab a couple of weeks ago. Not sure on how to add a link, but maybe you can find it ? I was satisfied from all the comments, that it is winter nose & nothing to worry about
  14. Jangels is a gardener too ...... Caught on his way to his bed with this WHOLE plant Sorry wouldn't upload pic gggrrrrr
  15. Jake our old Lab used to nudge us daily (which I now miss). He did this when he wanted something eg a chip if I was eating a packet of chips a door opened for him (he had a real thing about closed doors) 3 pm was his dinner time & he would start nudging at 2.30 on the dot And he would just come up nudge and force his head under my arm when he wanted a cuddle (even in the car) So cute So my guess is your girl is trying to tell you something. Maybe she is trying to tell you she wants to go home or wants a drink when she nudges when walking her ;) Labbys have soo much personality
  16. would I be right in thinking 2 of those 230g packets a day for a 31kg male? Yes sounds right but look at the recommended feeding on the carton of Leading Raw. My 33 kg male gets 1 patty, extra minced vegies & a couple of chicken necks for the main meal. But I am trying to get him to loose a couple of kgs
  17. yes perfect to freeze as all products are sold frozen. As we were advised by Jangels (& now also Louis's) breeder/s to feed raw we purchased a 2nd hand chest freezer before Jangels arrived. Wouldn't be without it now Doesn't take long for 2 Labs to empty it They also sell, frozen, turkey, chicken necks etc in 10kg bags fairly cheaply which I just throw on the concrete to seperate enough for a few meals. Bit more fussing around to feed raw but well worth it for the results IMO
  18. excellent - this is exactly what I wanted to hear. we have a chest freezer just begging to be filled up - so I assume it's ok to freeze?
  19. I haven't used the Leading RAW brand myself. I have fed the BARF & Big Dog patties for 16 months & I think from my understanding, all three brands are produced by the same company. When I have gone to purchase & asked what the difference is I was told that BARF Big Dog patties have a higher vegetable & bone content than Leading RAW but Leading RAW's patty varieties cater for more different lifestages. Leading RAW is tad more expensive & I have been very happy with Jangels health & development on BARF so have stuck with that brand. I also buy the BARF growth in 2kg rolls which is exactly the same fomula as the patties, but less exspensive, for our 4 month old puppy. The actual factory has store front that I purchase from & produces BARF/Big Dog patties sells the Leading Raw there too at discount prices for a bulk purchase. If you have freezer space you can save considerably. As an example the boxes of BARF patties are $17 for a 3kg box of 12 x 250 g patties if you buy 4 boxes. We go there & stock up once a month. A lady I talk to at the dog park put me on to Big Dog Pet Foods at Lawnton and she feeds her 2 Goldies Leading Raw & is very happy with the results. Every single observation GDQ have made about the improvements from feeding RAW v dry I have seen for myself. I would also add one more, less shedding. So whatever raw brand you choose, if you decide to go this way, you won't look back imo. Hope this has helped.
  20. Exactly westiemum Jangels breeder refers to commercially manufactured dog food as takeaway for dogs
  21. Thank you so much for your detailed & very imformative reply toydog. Very interesting & I value any natural diet suggestions. Both my boys are fed completely raw diets served in ceramic bowls or metal plates. No plastic bowls here as I find feeding raw I'm very mindful about cleanliness. Brewers yeast, kelp, vitamin C tablets are added requarly to their food along with Livamol powder & flaxseed & cod liver oils. I feed liver or heart or kidney along with fresh sardines once a week with their normal raw meaty bones. BARF patties & food processed vegies (as I don't think the patties have enough vegies in them). Breakfast is VAN complete mix with human grade premium beef mince & a tblsp of natural yoghurt. I have never heard of Chlorella but sounds very interesting. I am hoping Jangels nose pad returns to black but if not it doesn't concern me too much as we're not into showing or anything. He is still beautiful no matter what color is snoze is I was just curious about the colour change
